A Farmhouse Spring Porch

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Spring PorchI am so excited! Spring is officially here and we have the beautiful weather to prove it here in the South! Sooo…it’s time to spruce up the front porch and add some spring to welcome my guests! I am also excited to join the gang at All Things Home and help to co-host the Swing into Spring Linky Party for Porches and Wreaths along with Barb at The Everyday Home and Christy at Our Southern Home. So be sure to add your spring outdoor décor at the end of this post and check out all of the fabulous spring inspiration!

I have a small porch so I have to keep the décor simple, which really suits me since I am using the same farmhouse theme that I enjoyed at Christmas! (You can get a peek at my farmhouse Christmas décor by clicking here.) I just wanted burlap, simple pops of white and lots of galvanized touches.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Spring Porch I used a burlap bag as an Easter basket filled with faux grass and simple white eggs. My favorite little bunny is standing guard! In the background…the sap buckets that I found at the Country Living Fair back in the fall are filled with white faux tulips.

Walmart Dyeable White Eggs And just in case you are wondering whether or not I raided my fridge for the eggs, here’s my secret…white decorating eggs from Walmart at $1.97 for a dozen. Aren’t they realistic?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Spring Porch On the opposite side of the porch is another sap bucket filled with white tulips and a basket of more of those faux eggs! And behind them you can see my boxwood nestled in a galvanized olive bucket and tied with a burlap bow, echoing the bucket on the other side of the porch.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at WalmartYou may remember that I shared this secret with you back in the fall…olive buckets from Walmart for under $10! Whaaaat? Yes…it’s true! I have enjoyed mine so much and you can’t beat the price compared to those high-priced ones from the flea market or antique shops! You can get all the details here. (Be persistent…they are frequently out of stock, but if you check back regularly, you can find them.)

On the door, you will find my Pottery Barn inspired burlap bunny banner. Its simple, rustic look helps to add to the farmhouse theme. There is a complete tutorial here.

So there you have it…my farmhouse porch for spring! I am enjoying this simple, rustic look!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Burlap for SpringAnd…my porch is not the only place where I am using burlap this spring! Here are a few more ideas…

Baby Kitty Hunting a LizardAs for the staff, Baby Kitty is thrilled that spring is here and anxiously awaiting the day when the geraniums are blooming again and lizards are hiding under the garden snail on the patio….ahhh!

Spring Tablescape in Blue and White

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and WhiteI am really excited this week to join some very talented bloggers in presenting The Scoop’s Spring Tablescape Tour! And my tablescape is one that has been cooking in my brain for quite  some time. If you know me, you know how I love blue and white and have amassed a little collection of double happiness and ginger jars over the years.

Inspiration Photo Design by Lisa Luby Ryan, featured in Veranda via Holly Mathis Interiors
So you will understand that among my favorite pins is this lovely blue and white tablescape! My heart nearly stopped when I saw it for the first time and I knew, being the big fat copy-cat that I am, that I wanted to create my own version one day. I also knew that I could shop the house for almost everything, but I had one problem…I needed white tulips! So this spring, as soon as they appeared in Michaels (yes…mine are faux), I made sure to have a supply of them for all of my spring decorating!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Easter TablescapeYou may remember  that I used them to fill Dollar Tree vases wrapped in burlap for my Pottery Barn inspired Easter tablescape

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Spring Porch …and the galvanized sap buckets that I found at the Country Living Fair on my Farmhouse spring porch! White tulips are my new favorite flower for spring!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and WhiteAnd now, finally, my favorite way to use my white tulips…filling one of my double happiness jars…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White …and spilling over into a Chinese-style pitcher and an octagonal ginger jar! I love the way the blue and white make the green leaves pop!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White Then I added some blue and white candlesticks with long, white tapers…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White …and sprinkled in some vintage silverplate, like this roll-top butter dish, a Goodwill find from several years ago.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White Then I finished it off with a place setting that echoed the colors…blue and white with more vintage silver.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and WhiteAt each place is a beaded plate from Dollar Tree (yes…you read that right), a lotus bowl from Pier 1, which echoes the tulip shape, and a blue and white porcelain dessert plate with a Chinese pattern and silver trim around the rim.  The bowls were another Goodwill find from four years ago (at seven for $4.54!) that I first showed you in my “saladscape” here. The set of six plates…on clearance for only $17…came from Bombay Company many years ago.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White The silverware is my mom’s Silver Flutes from Towle, which adds just the right amount of simple elegance!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and WhiteAnd finally, at each place is an Irish lead crystal tea glass paired with a wine glass from Goodwill. I find that mixing high end items with thrifting finds allows you to achieve an expensive look without having to spend a lot of money.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White Not bad, huh? I think I have done a pretty good job of echoing the spirit of my inspiration tablescape…and without spending a dime on anything other than the tulips!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and White It’s not a perfect copy, but it has a sort of relaxed elegance (if there is such a thing) that I like.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tablescape in Blue and WhiteI am loving the blue and white mixed with little sophisticated pops of silver and the sparkle of the glass!

Kitty However, Miss Kitty, in usual feline fashion, is not impressed. Her suggestion…next time go for black and white! Hmmm…I wonder where she gets that idea! LOL

Finding French Farmhouse Style...at Walmart!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at WalmartWoot woot! BARGAIN ALERT! Have I got a surprise for you today! I couldn't believe my eyes when I found all of this galvanized frenchy goodness at…wait for it…(Oh, yeah, I already spilled the beans in the title)…WALMART! Woo hoo!

Ozzie I was Googling late last night…do you Google late at night, too?…and came upon such a fabulous surprise that my heart raced at the sight of these cheap thrifty finds! I do believe I whooped and hollered, too, much to the dismay of our CEO Ozzie who was snoring nearby! She’s giving me the evil eye today as you can see. Sooo…first thing this morning, I headed out to Walmart to find…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at Walmart …this fabulous galvanized bin with rope handles for…brace yourselves…a mere $10! No, you are not reading that incorrectly! The ones at Pottery Barn are half this size and cost three times as much!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at WalmartThere is a matching smaller bin at…try to keep breathing…only $7.00! Has your jaw dropped? Is your heart pounding at the thought of such a bargain? Then, you’d better be sure you are sitting down or have someone to catch you when I show you the next one…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at Walmart …a frenchy olive bucket for…hang on to your hats…not $65 like in the fancy antique malls…not even $55 like the supposedly great online deals…only $10! Yes…it’s true! Can you believe it? It’s not as big or heavy as the more expensive ones and doesn’t have the rust, but I am working on that part. Wait, wait…don’t rush out the door…keep reading!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at WalmartOnce I found the galvanized products at Walmart online here, I checked to see if they were in stock at my closest store…and they were not. I had to drive about 15 minutes to another one not too far away to find them. But the good news is that even if your store doesn’t have them, they will ship free of charge to the store and you can pick them up there. And…Walmart isn’t even paying me to say this! You know how I love a good bargain…and this one is great!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style...from Tractor Supply I have discovered that French farmhouse style is everywhere if you just keep your eyes peeled and use your imagination. And I am getting really good at spotting it in unusual places, like at Tractor Supply Company. You can read all about that find here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style...from IKEAI also found a way to do vintage French farmhouse linens using 79 cent IKEA dish towels. You can get the details, plus the no-sew monogram transfer courtesy of The Graphics Fairy by clicking here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style...from World Market And back in the spring, I showed you the bargain French bottle drying rack that I found at Cost Plus World Market for only $15 instead of the hefty $55 and waaay up at other places. Woo hoo! You can get the details here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Finding Farmhouse Style at WalmartSooo…here’s another look at my bargain farmhouse décor. Woot woot! Eventually, it will find its way back into the toile bedroom that I am in the process of re-doing for my grandson. But I think for now it will stay on my table as a sort of precursor-to-fall centerpiece. And besides…it makes me smile just to look at it! Now…you can run on off to get yours! :-) And...you’re welcome!

I was not compensated in any fashion nor am I associated in any way with Walmart, Tractor Supply Company, Cost Plus World Market or Ikea. I just like their stuff.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my farmhouse finds! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
