I seem to collect thrifting finds along a theme…and this time it’s a saladscape! lol Everything I found this week lends itself to serving a salad! And…a long-wished-for vintage find is the star! Can you spot it?
Our co-host today is our own handsome man…Baby Kitty…who is giving me a strange look because he doesn’t think that saladscape is a word! Hey…we are scaping everything else here in blogland…why not salads?
Of course, that means that you must have a salad bowl, so I took one that I already had and added it to this old silver server…instant fanciness! And the server only cost $2.52! I really like the way this transforms the bowl!
To serve the salad, I am using some old silverplate serving pieces from a previous Goodwill hunting score for $1.00…which included a coin silver spoon that I showed you in a previous post! The green bubble glass goblets came from the clearance aisle at Pier 1 last spring.
I am also using my mom’s green depression glass butter dish and a vintage roll cover from an earlier thrifting trip, as well as these lovely old silverplate butter knives…
…that were mixed in with this collection of old silverplate flatware….only $9.99 for the lot!
Now I am only one random dinner fork short of having a service for eight in mismatched silverplate flatware!
I love this find…seven Pier 1 bowls for $4.54! I will use them as salad bowls, since I didn’t have any really pretty ones!
My sweet blogger buddy, Claudie from Bubblin’ Over gave me these plates! Aren’t they gorgeous? I got to meet Claudie and her friend Juli from Juliology this week while they were visiting all the way from Canada! They were staying with CC Catherine at Catherine de thé Cups, who invited me to go junkin’ with them! We had a so much fun!
But the absolute star of my saladscape is this…a vintage castor set!! Isn’t it wonderful? I have been admiring them for a long time, but couldn’t afford one. Then my sweet neighbor Joyce ( you might remember her from my ink well post) found this one for me for…you will not believe it!…$20!! Woooo hoooo!! Major score! It even has all of the tops…which is not always the case.
There are etched glass cruets for oil and vinegar with two different styles of glass stoppers…lovely!
And there are salt and pepper shakers…notice the two different shapes…gorgeous!
And finally, there is a mustard pot…amazing! You can really see the etched glass in this photo.
And just look at the detail in the handle! Is it not the prettiest thing you have ever seen?
Ahhhh! I think I have died and gone to heaven! I finally have a castor set of my own! Can you tell that I love it? lol
Baby Kitty thinks I am a silly girl…but I’ll bet that you understand!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you’ll stay for some (imaginary) salad before you head off to the bloggy parties! Then please visit these wonderful ladies and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Beautiful Debbie! I love to have light meals of salad when the weather turns warm, and this table would be beautiful to serve it from. I love how you dressed up the salad bowl using the server. And I knew that the cruet set was the star from the first shot - what a deal. It's beautiful and in such great condition. Pretty, pretty, pretty! Hope you are having fun in babyland :) Hugs, Kat (btw, the ants are actually metal sculptures at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely table you have set. Love the green.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful spring/summer table for a light meal, Debbie. I love the salad bowl in the silver server, it will make any salad taste better. Now to find myself a pretty one, instead of passing them up...your castor set is gorgeous, love the design on the handle. Super deal on all that flatware. The blue/white reticulated plates look so nice with the green depression glass. You had a very successful thrifting day, as always!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fresh and pretty green in your glass - working beautifully with your blue and white. It seems we are all seeking that lovely spring green - as in new shoots and leaves poking up from the ground and peeking at us from tree branches...everything on your table is so inviting!
ReplyDeleteDebbie - wow! I love all the different etched bottles in the castor set. Each one is so pretty! And I love what you did with the silver thingey that holds the salad bowl. Great idea! The salad bowls are just perfect. Hey, in one pic it looks like kitty has sunflowers on her head! (or is it his head?) Well, cute! So fun to have been on almost all of those finds! ReplyDeletexoxo Pattie
Aren't you the lucky girl? I have looked for one of those sets for years! They are always way too pricey.

Your whole setting is lovely.

ReplyDeleteDebbie, that is the prettiest castor set I've ever seen! You got such a deal on it. What a wonderful find! I also love that you used that other silver piece to serve salad. (Do you visit Prior's blog? She's having a monthly "Prior" event. You post something you've found and use in a different way. I think your salad bowl server would be a great entry for that event.) You are so clever to think of such unique ways to use your wonderful finds! What a deal on those sweet little bowls! I've got to get to your neck of the woods some day. You know I love those beautiful blue and white plates that were given to you. Lucky girl laurie
ReplyDeleteOf course, "Saladscape"is a word and you have pulled together the perfect assortment of accessories and dishware for it! I LOVE those white flower shaped bowls! Your castor set is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteDD
Debbie, Wow. great finds, we don't have lot of places to shop for treasures. I am happy for you and what a great word saladscapes.....love the music.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
Beautiful...all of it is simply beautiful! And did you get score some deals! Be blessed. Cindy
ReplyDeleteHe,he,he, Saladscape! I love it! Beautiful job. How nice to have your own personal shopper looking out for your "needs".
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
Love your castor set. I found one last year and we have it on the kitchen table all the time. I thought the little pot was for mustard? Anyway, I don't keep sugar OR mustard in mine. My husband loves those red pepper flakes so I filled it with that and added a tiny demitasse spoon. Works beautifully and we don't need any tacky condiment containers on the table.
ReplyDeleteLaura
What a haul you got!!! LOVE he castor set!! And the mismatched silverware, I am always on the lookout for that!
ReplyDeleteYour "saladscape" is gorgeous!!
Lou Cinda :)

Hey Debbie...
ReplyDeleteHave I got some great pictures of you my girl. Can't wait to share. You are so to love and your blog is delightful. The cruet set ( I think that's what my mother - in - law use to call them) is a real find. I remember you mentioning it. Fab pictures and that cat in the midst is comical. I'll check in often! Glad our paths have crossed.
Love Julie
Hi Debbie! I'm drooling over your gorgeous tablescape! Love your new finds and it's always a pleasure knowing you're in good hands with Baby Kitty around!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement about our little Carter. I know it will be just fine!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I don't think "silly girl" is what Baby is trying to tell you. "When do we eat" is what I heard her saying! So do tell, what time are you serving the freshly grilled Mahi Mahi and Blackened Tuna??? I wouldn't want to be late, especially since you went through all this work to set a beautiful table!!
ReplyDeleteRomeo and "her"

ReplyDeleteHi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the way you've used the silverplated server with the pretty glass salad bowl. I think that's a brilliant idea! OK if I "borrow" this creative concept for a future post? "Saladscape" is the best new word I've heard lately! Pourquoi pas?
Your vintage castor set is gorgeous. What a fantastic buy! I see those at estate sales and antique shops, and they're frequently ten times what your sweet neighbor paid!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
