And…be sure to get your posts ready, too, because I have a reminder of some big news! I’ll be sharing it again in a minute.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Grain Sack RugHere is my first project for June…a seagrass rug that I transformed with some frenchy touches to create my French grain sack rug! Hey…even the floor isn’t safe from frenchiness at my house!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Simple Summer CenterpieceNext, I used an abandoned bird nest and tiny bluebird eggs plus a vintage blue Mason jar filled with a grocery store bouquet to create a simple summery centerpiece. I love the touches of my favorite color combination…blue and yellow!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Burlap and Canvas Sailboat Pillow You know me…I can’t let a month go by without adding to my growing pillow collection! I used a real postage stamp graphic to create this vintage-look burlap and canvas sailboat pillow…summery and fun! You will find a tutorial plus the free graphic here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Collecting Clay CookersI also showed you my new duck and shared my unusual collection of  clay cookers. You will also find one of my favorite recipes using the cookers…Hungarian chicken paprika.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Country Living Inspired Filament Bulb Candles I used a free graphic from Country Living to create these vintage filament bulb candle wraps and shared my favorite method for aging paper. You will find the paper-aging tutorial here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music SailboatsI made some fun vintage sheet music sailboats to add some little summery touches around the house. Easy No-Bake Strawberry Tunnel Cake

I have a super-easy dessert for you to try…just in time for the 4th of July! It’s my No-Bake Strawberry Tunnel Cake! If you know me, you know that I don’t do anything unless it’s easy! And…this is a recipe I have been using for almost 40 years so you know I love it! You don’t even have to be able to cook!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Strawberry Tunnel Cake It’s kind of like an all-in-one strawberry shortcake…an angel food cake filled with a tunnel of strawberry goodness and topped with whipped cream! Yum! My family loves it!

IngredientsYou can pick up all of the ingredients at the grocery store and have it ready to serve in a jiffy, too…it’s that easy! Here’s what you need:
  • A pre-made angel food cake (Mine came from the bakery at Publix.)
  • A container of whipped topping
  • A one pound bag of frozen whole strawberries (You can substitute fresh if you like but I feel that the frozen berries help the Jello to congeal.)
  • A small (3 oz) box of strawberry Jello
  • Some fresh strawberries and blueberries to decorate the cake
You can even make a light version of the cake by using sugar-free cake (also available at Publix), sugar-free Jello and sugar or fat-free whipped topping!

Instructions And here’s what you do:
  1. Using a serrated knife, cut the top one inch off of the cake and set it aside.
  2. Cut around the cake along the inside and outside edge, being careful not to cut all the way through to the bottom and leaving about an inch on each side. Then cut the inside portion into small sections and pull them out of the cake, leaving an additional inch all along the bottom and creating a trench. Set the cake pieces aside to be used later.
  3. Heat one cup of water in the microwave and add the package of Jello, stirring it until it dissolves. Add it to the cake pieces. Cut the frozen strawberries into slices and add them to the cake mixture. Stir until the cake has absorbed the liquid.
  4. Add the cake piece/strawberry mixture to the cake, filling in the trench and smoothing it as you go to allow as much as possible to fit. I use almost all of it.
  5. Put the top back on and ice the cake with whipped topping. As you can tell from the ingredients, it must be kept in the fridge.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Strawberry Tunnel Cake Finally, decorate the top of the cake with fresh strawberries and blueberries. And there you have it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Strawberry Tunnel Cake Then, just slice and serve! The strawberry-filled tunnel makes such a pretty statement, don’t you think? And the whole process takes me no more than 30 minutes and I didn’t even have to cook! Love it!

Miss Kitty loves strawberries And speaking of love…Miss Kitty loves the smell of strawberries and makes a total fool of herself when I bring them home from the store! However, you have to promise not to tell her that I showed you these embarrassing photos! Uhhmm...fortunately, there are no photos of me and my reaction to the cake!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my strawberry tunnel cake! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Summery Sheet Music Sailboats

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music SailboatsSummer has been keeping me busy…lots of yard work and fun extra time with the grands…but I just had to show you my latest project…little summery sailboats made from sheet music!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sailboat Pillow I seem to have a thing about sailboats lately! They star in my new summer sailboat pillow…a combination of burlap and canvas sporting a wonderful sailboat stamp. You can see more of it, including a tutorial and free graphics, by clicking here.

Joseph Conrad And I have pulled out my vintage Joseph Conrad novels…part of a series of his complete works dating from 1925 that my friend Linda at Nina’s Nest and I found at Goodwill a while back. He is still one of my favorite authors, dating from my teenage years when a crush on Peter O’Toole made me read Lord Jim in preparation for the movie! lol And, to my surprise, I discovered my love for books about the sea! A more fitting prop for my little sailboats cannot be found!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music Sailboats The boats themselves were very easy to make.
  • I pulled out some interesting-looking vintage sheet music from my stash…also a Goodwill find several years ago. I followed the directions that I found here for making origami sailboats. Fortunately, sheet music is the perfect size! If you prefer video instructions, you will find them here.
  • Then I cut a bamboo skewer in half and pushed it through the sail portion of the boat, taping it to the inside.
  • Next, I added a length of string, hot-gluing the center of it to the top of my little mast. I looped and tied the string through little holes I had made in either end of the boat using another bamboo skewer.
  • Finally, I embellished the string with little pennants made from toile scrapbooking paper.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music Sailboats And…voilà!…here it is! I am taking it for a little ride on a stormy sea to test it out!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music SailboatsThis one has something special. Do you see what it is? Yes…one of the pennants sports a black cat!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Sheet Music Sailboats And here’s a final look! I love them...and they were free since I already had everything I needed! I am going to have fun moving them around the house to add a little summery touch! And…now that I can make origami boats, I will test them out in the wading pool with my little grands!

And in case you are wondering…where is the staff…I have to confess that they have a new addiction…Cat TV! Miss Isabella runs to the window each morning when the blinds are raised to begin her vigil! In fact, she has become such a couch potato that we are beginning a diet plan. I’ll keep you posted on how that is going!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my sheet music sailboats! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
