Mason Jars and Bird Nests...The Story of a Simple Summer Centerpiece

As soon as I saw my vintage blue Mason jar, I knew this centerpiece was coming! I just had to wait for the perfect bits of nature to complement it…and I found them at last! But I will be honest here…my centerpiece didn’t start out this way.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Summer CenterpieceYou see…it started on my new zinc tray…mostly because I wanted you to see it…my Pottery Barn Outlet bargain! And I wanted to use my favorite colors…blue and yellow. Now I am no minimalist, but I still knew something was wrong.

Ozzie And then my oh-so-wise CEO Miss Ozzie, who always gets straight to the point, had a suggestion…Edit, my dear, just edit. Focus on the things you love best!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Simple Summer Centerpiece And she was right! So I pulled out my favorite ironstone tea pot…

Mason Jar …and I added my wonderful vintage blue Mason jar…

Hydrangeas …filled with a beautiful blossoming hydrangea and a bouquet of yellow and white flowers.

NestNext came my favorite bird’s nest whose creator had lovingly decorated it with a crape myrtle seed pod. Then I filled it with bluebird eggs from an abandoned nest…thanks to a very territorial pair of mocking birds who want to remain neighborless.

And there you have it…my simple summer centerpiece...with all of my new loves in one place! Yes…I have to admit…Miss Ozzie was right. Sometimes less is more!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my simple summer centerpiece! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

  6. Debbie, I have a very similar vignette on my patio coffee table but there's a funny story with mine. My eggs are blue candy eggs....or they were. They've been out there a week. We went out yesterday morning to have our coffee and the nest was torn up and the eggs were gone!! Some varmint got them. I'm probably going to post about it just because it's funny to me. :)

  7. Beautiful vignette! Love your beautiful photos and the backdrop of blue & white dishes. So pretty with the yellow touches, nest and sweet kitty!
Would love for you to share at Amaze Me Monday, hope you'll add it to your party list!
    Blessings,
    Cindy

  8. Lovely! Good help is hard to find so you should give Miss Ozzie a special treat! I'm busy packing instead of creating, but that will change once I move! I'm going to move to Athens to be closer to my family and be able to babysit Tiger more often! I am so happy! Moving in July, Paris in Sept! Life is good!

    hugs,
    Linda

  18. So beautiful! I have such trouble with tablescapes - I tend to use too little.

And...I just wanted to tell you how much I love your office staff! You are a truly wise woman.

  19. I love it, Debbie. Wish I still had all my old blue jars. They were given to a friend when we moved from the farm.

I made my trip to Tractor Supply yesterday. Found a couple of cute things. I'll publish a post tomorrow or Monday. Now, I need to go to Farmer's Coop and Orscheln and see what they have.:-)

  20. Debbie,
    Simply divine, dear friend!!!
Many times, I'm swayed to try something trendy and 'in vogue',
but when I stay true to my Traditional roots. . .it just feels 'right'!!!
    Love the centerpiece!!!
I'd say . . ."You got this one just right"!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
