Here’s what you will need for the mini herb garden:
- Small galvanized tub (mine came from the farm supply store)
- Your favorite herbs
- Purchased pot filler (mine came from Walmart) or stones to allow for drainage
- Potting soil
And here’s what you will do:
- Fill the bottom of the tub with about an inch of stones or use a purchased pot filler cut to fit to allow for better drainage.
- Add the plants arranged so that the taller herbs are toward the back.
- Fill in with potting soil.
Now you are ready to make the plant markers.
Here’s what you will need:
- Mini chalkboards (mine came from Jo-Ann with 3 in a pack)
- 12 inch long x 3/16 inch wooden dowels (mine came from Walmart)
- Chalk or chalk marker (also from Walmart) or permanent paint pen if you plan to leave them outside in a covered area. I wouldn’t leave them directly in the rain.
- Chalkboard Duck tape (also from Walmart)
- Hot glue gun
And here’s what you will do:
- Remove the little loop from the chalkboards using nail clippers to be sure to get all of it.
- Measure to find the center, mark with a pencil and run a bead of hot glue along that line. Add the dowel and hold until the glue is firm.
- Add the names of your herbs.
- Place the markers in your little garden container.
- Write "Herbs" on a length of the chalkboard Duck tape with the marker and affix to the tub.
I am really going to enjoy this little garden this summer! I am having a glass of iced tea with mint as I type! And I love the look of the little galvanized tub with the chalkboard touches, too! A garden might as well be cute!

Miss Kitty thinks I have gone a little overboard with tiny chalkboards. Hmmm...she may be right!
