Easy No-Sew Velvet Acorns

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy No-Sew Velvet AcornsI’ve been eyeing those beautiful velvet acorns that I’ve been seeing this fall and trying to find a way to make them. But it seems to be difficult to find real velvet in the fall jewel tones that I want. And with my crazy life, I don’t have time for sewing and stuffing a pile of those teensy-weensy little guys! So my little wheels started to turn…what comes in bright fall colors and has the texture and softness of velvet?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy No-Sew Velvet Acorns4Why…pom poms, of course! So I headed to Hobby Lobby and scored a little package of them in the perfect fall colors on sale for under $2.00! Woo hoo! I threw in a few purple ones from my stash as well and I was almost set. All I needed was a friend with an oak tree…check!  Now I was ready to get started! It’s so easy I hardly dare to call it a tutorial, but…
Here’s what you will need:
  • Real acorn tops (I used several sizes)
  • Pom poms in the colors of your choice in sizes to fit your tops ( I chose the colors of my favorite pansies!)
  • Elmer’s Glue-All

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy No-Sew Velvet Acorns5And here’s what you will do:
  1. Match the pom poms to tops that fit.
  2. Add a generous amount of glue to the inside of the top.
  3. Press the pom pom into place and hold for a few seconds.
  4. Place on a paper plate and allow to dry.

The kiddos would love this project…helping to collect the tops and then gluing on the pom poms. You can’t get much more kid-friendly than Elmer’s! No hot glue gun needed here!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy No-Sew Velvet Acorns7I’m so pleased with the way they turned out and, best of all, they were so easy and inexpensive to make! Won’t they make a fun little pop of color for my Thanksgiving breakfast table?
