It's time to hit the gardening center and fill my favorite containers with fresh flowers and herbs! So I am sharing eight ways to display flowers and plants...including a little bit of the unusual plus a few unexpected ways to dress up the ordinary.

Summer is officially here and one of the things I love about it is being able to cook with fresh herbs.  Sooo….. I decided that this year I would have my own little garden again with all of my favorites! That way I don't have to make a run to the grocery store when I need herbs...and you know that now just going out has become an ordeal! So while I was at it, I thought I would make it cute and fun and use some more of my favorites…galvanized goodies and chalkboard touches! Here's how I did it....

I am beginning to believe that spring may really be here and we may not get that last cold snap that we usually get! Sooo…I am starting to think of ways to display my spring flowers…both inside and out! It Only Took Eight Years...Update

I first shared this good news several years ago and now I can't believe that it took so long for this to happen since I can now count on it every year! In fact, they are blooming right now! :-) 

My neighbor Joyce kindly shared with me some babies from one of her mother’s cherished plants with the instructions to let them get pot bound and they would bloom. She didn’t know the plant’s name at the time, but I found out recently that it is a Walking Iris.

How to Make a Living Wreath

Here's something I have been wanting to try for a while...making a wreath from growing plants! I have even been eyeing several versions online. Some used succulents but I wanted something with more blooms. And a few used impatiens...lovely, but my yard is not shady enough. Then I was wandering around the nursery and had an epiphany!

Easy Fabric Découpage Flower Pots

I am so excited because my favorite season has finally arrived and that means it’s time to start gardening!  And nothing says spring to me more than a pretty pot full of colorful flowers! It’s also time for the monthly share from Celebrations of Home with our focus this month on Mother’s Day. Sooo…I have decided to create some unique flower pots that will make wonderful gifts for Mom!

A Spring Favorite...My Easy Flower Pot Wreath

It's really feeling like spring is finally here in Georgia, so I am adding a little bit of spring to my house with my easy-to-make flower pot wreath! It may just be my favorite project ever! I first showed it to you two years ago, but I love it so much that I decided to share it again just in case you are new to my blog and have not seen it. I love playing with flower pots for my spring and summer projects!

You might remember my whimsical little flower pot man with his creeping jenny hair! So it should come as no surprise that I decided to make him a wreath to match!

I actually found the inspiration for the wreath at Bees Knees Bungalow. Jeanne’s wonderful photo of a wreath she spotted has been making the rounds at Pinterest! There is no tutorial, so I made up my own version. Here’s what you’ll need: a grapevine wreath, twine, scissors, Spanish moss, some floral foam, an assortment of faux flowers and greenery and terra cotta flower pots in assorted sizes.

I got mine at Michaels (with a coupon for 20% off my entire purchase…yaaay!) I bought ten 1 ½ inch pots, five 2 ½ inch and five 3 inch pots.

I started with the five largest pots and spaced them around the wreath, securing them with twine tied tightly on the back with a double knot. I suppose you could use wire, but I like the look of twine.

Then I filled in with the next size and then finally with the smallest pots. I tried really hard not to be too symmetrical…not easy for me! lol

Next, I carefully flipped it over and cut all the ties on the back to a length that would remain secure but would not show from the front.

Then I cut a piece of the floral foam and fitted it into the five largest pots. This will hold the faux flowers in place.

I filled in the pots with the flowers and added some greenery and Spanish moss. The flowers I chose are faux Queen Anne’s lace in shades of purple. I like the contrast of the purple with the grey-green plants and the grey Spanish moss.  

And finally...taaa daaa! I suppose you could use real plants, but they wouldn’t last very long on my sunny front porch. And just a note…it’s heavy, so be sure you hang it securely.

Here's how it looks on my front door! I used a metal over-the-door wreath hanger and attached the wreath with wire. I love it…such a fun and festive welcome for my visitors!

Now Baby Kitty wants to know when I am going to make a flower pot kitty! Hmmm…I guess I’ll be searching Pinterest for my next inspiration!

And just in case you are looking for another fun and super easy idea for flower pots, here are my chalkboard flower pots!  They make a great gift since you can add the greeting that suits the occasion. I love this idea for hostess or end-of-the-year teacher gifts...or maybe just a sweet little reminder to someone that they are special!

Fun and Easy Projects with Flower Pots

Woo hoo! Spring has finally sprung in my neck of the woods! Sooo…all this pretty weather has me freshening up some of my favorite spring projects to use again this year. And…if you are like me and have a stash of flower pots, I have some fun ideas that I would like to share with you.

My first project is these cute chalkboard flower pots that I showed you earlier this spring. They are so much fun and easy to make! And with Mother’s Day not too far away, wouldn’t they make a great gift? Just fill with mom’s favorite flowers and finish them off with a sweet message for her! You can find a complete tutorial here.

Baby Kitty and Ozzie have a suggestion…how about filling one with catnip for your sweet furbabies of the feline persuasion?  Hmmm…I take it that is a hint for me!

Here’s another fun flower pot project…my little flower pot man! I have already spiffed him up and gotten him settled in near my patio. Here he is last year sporting creeping Jenny as hair. And the new favorite ‘do for this year? It’s creeping fig! You can find a tutorial for making him here.

And finally, and maybe my favorite, here’s my flower pot wreath!

It stayed on my front door all last summer and will soon be headed that way again!

All you need is a grapevine wreath, flower pots in assorted sizes, twine, floral foam and faux flowers to finish it off. You will find instructions for making it, including flower pot sizes, here.
And there you have it…my ideas for fun ways to use flower pots! And…if you are short on flower pots, I’ll bet that if you head out for the thrift stores and yard sales, you may find that your unsuspecting neighbors have give decided to part with theirs! Enjoy!
