This picture is actually a brochure that came in a tin of Traou Mad butter cookies that I found...strangely enough...at TJ Maxx!! Traou Mad means good things in Breton! The biscuiterie (cookie company) is located in Bretagne (Brittany) in Pont-Aven, which is known as one of the favorite haunts of the French artist Paul Gauguin. The brochure features one of his paintings, Breton Girls Dancing, Pont-Aven. If you would like to learn more about Gauguin and see more of his work, click here! Woooo hoooo!!! And I don't know about you, but I'm glad they're back!!!
In keeping with my Mardi Gras theme, I would like to share this poster which is one of my favorite souvenirs of my first trip to New Orleans many years ago. I added the scroll work above and below to give it a little more presence. I love the colorful birds and the lace on the clown's costume!
Of course, the French Quarter was my favorite part of New Orleans! Saint Louis Cathedral is at its heart. Yes...I know this isn't my wall! lol Bear with me...I'm getting there!
In Jackson Square surrounding the cathedral there are all sorts of artists and street performers. You can stroll around and listen to some jazz, buy a painting or have your portrait sketched. And that's what we did...
This is a sketch of my daughter when she was two years old that was done by one of the artists in New Orleans. Now she is twenty-eight and has a family of her own, but her little face will be captured forever as a sweet reminder of a special vacation in New Orleans at Mardi Gras!

No, not this artist...although he truly is my favorite! And this is my favorite painting, Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles!! I love the way Van Gogh paints! I have this one on my wall.
Meet Pete the Cat!! Do you see him?? Curled up on Van Gogh's bed??? lol Isn't he cute?? This is one of the signed Pete the Cat prints that I have in my living room. They were created by an artist named James Dean...no, not that James Dean...! He is a very creative Georgia artist who has quite an imagination. My Van Gogh's Bedroom Pete is just one in a series which finds Pete in quite a few paintings by the masters. Of course, I chose the frenchy ones!
You must have seen this famous painting Le Chat Noir (The Black Cat) by Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen. This one is hanging in my hall, by the way!
And this is my first Pete. I bought it in a little shop in Madison, Georgia, about 8 years ago. This is the one that got me started! Don't you love Pete? If you would like more information about him, or would like to take a peek at some of the other Petes, just go to Pete the Cat and enjoy!
