I am so honored that several of my dear friends in Blogland have been so kind as to think of me in the form of some very special awards! I ask their forgiveness for taking so long to post them!

An Announcement, A New Blog and Some Awards!
I have an exciting announcement! My friend Barb at Grits and Glamour will be hosting a new event...What's on Your Wall Wednesday ... beginning next Wednesday, January 28th! This will give us all an opportunity to show off our treasured art work, photographs, murals, displays and in my case...PLATES... that we have so lovingly hung on our walls! A Swoon, an Afternoon and a Spoon...or...My Favorite Authors

I have been tagged by Carrie at Oak Rise Cottage (http://oakrisecottage.blogspot.com/) to answer some questions concerning my favorite authors. If you have not had an opportunity to visit her blog, please drop by! She is a fellow plate/china enthusiast who also has a wonderful collection of nativity scenes.
Who is your all-time favorite author and why? Ohhhh...that's easy if I think of it as my all-time favorite book...Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. For me it is the most unforgettable love story ever written. The power of Heathcliff's love for Catherine made such an impression on me as a teenage girl that I have never recovered from it. If teenage girls swooned back in the 60's, I would have swooned! If you don't believe me, read this:
"Catherine Earnshaw, may you not rest as long as I am living! You said I killed you—haunt me, then! The murdered do haunt their murderers. I believe—I know that ghosts have wandered on earth. Be with me always—take any form—drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh God! it is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"
Are you swooning yet? And what makes it even better is that it was written by a very sheltered minister's daughter who had probably never been in love in her life.
Who was your first favorite author and why? This is also easy...Kenneth Grahame who wrote The Wind in the Willows. I think I loved this book because I found it all by myself on the bookshelf at home. I was fascinated from the first words. Toad, Rat and Mole are still some of my favorite characters. To this day, I love anything involving little animals wearing old fashioned clothes and "messing about in boats" for an afternoon on the river!
Who is the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why? That is also easy...it's Peter Mayle and I think the reason is obvious! As a retired French teacher who has lived in France, I find myself eating his every word with a spoon! I love his stories of the little villages and the villagers of the Luberon in Provence. And who can resist his detailed descriptions of French cuisine ...not me! That is why I chose the Luberon as my vacation spot when I retired. I really like his fiction better than his non-fiction. If you are not familiar with his work, try A Good Year or Hotel Pastis. The Christmas Spirit Award

This is a very special award dedicated to having wonderful Christmas spirit!

Here are the rules for the Christmas award:
You must be a true Christmas lover to receive this award. The person to whom you give the award must also be in love with Christmas. You must link back to the person who gave you the award. You must list 5 things that you love about Christmas. If you can't limit it to 5 things, then keep going till you run out of space! Pass the award along to as many people as you like. That can be 1 or 50. It's up to you! But, you must pass it on to at least one person in order to keep the Christmas cheer going! Here are my Five Things:
1. The smell of a fresh Christmas tree- Several years ago, I switched to an artificial tree, but I still snitch some boughs from Home Depot that have been cut from the bottom of other trees just to have the smell. One of my old boyfriends was a Green Beret during the Viet Nam era. If you are my age, you know what that means. He once told me that when he was a little boy, he took some of the pine needles from the Christmas tree and tucked them under the corner of his mom's rug so that he could take them out and smell Christmas all year round. Somehow, the picture of that brave soldier having that sweet secret always touched my heart.
2. Baking cookies and making candy- I am the official cookie and candy maker for our family. Each year, I think maybe I'll leave off one or more of the items, but I can't because each person has his or her favorite and they are all different! lol
3. My grandson's face as he opens his presents- There's nothing like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child! And as he told his mom..."I don't have to put that on my Christmas list. I just tell Granny!"
4. Santa Claus- You will think I am silly when I tell you this, but on my daughter's first Christmas, I was so disappointed when I woke up and there was nothing under the tree except what I had put there. I am still convinced that there was a mix-up because I know he is real. I cry in the scene in The Polar Express when the elves bring out the reindeer who can't wait to fly and then Santa comes out. I know that is how it really is and I want to be there!
5. Being with my family- We are a small family and it means the world to me to have all of us in the same room at the same time! We are so excited now that the children are getting married and having children of their own! We rejoice at each new addition to our merry band!

An Award and A Tag
I got my first award as a blogger! It's from my cyber friend and fellow cat lover Sheila at "The Quintessential Magpie." If you haven't visited her blog, be sure to stop by. I especially loved her recent post about the adventures of her new friend ...a rag doll named Autumn Annie who can even drive a car. Oh oh...watch out! Remember Toonces the driving cat?I am supposed to name 5 things that I love...so here I go.
5. And finally....I love cheese! I love it better than chocolate. Roquefort cheese is my favorite... I love to eat it straight. Unfortunately, it's really expensive ... something about a retaliatory tax involving where the French get their bananas. I don't care where they get their bananas...I want my cheese! ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~
