I was so excited to find this vintage tureen and had to check to see if it were indeed a piece of Red Cliff ironstone that I could add to my collection. Actually, it was made by California Potteries as a sort of nod, I am sure, to Red Cliff's similar covered vegetable dish. However, at only $15 compared to about $100 for the original version, I figure I can mix it in with my collection and no one will know...except you, of course! ;-) And I am pleased to report that I also saw the same tureen on ebay for around $65! Yaay for bargains!
Here's the larger Red Cliff version...a nice, heavy ironstone with many more details in my favorite grapey motif! Can you see the similarity? This one was actually my mom's...
...and I have also added a coffee pot...
...a creamer...
...and a sugar bowl through years of thrifting! I always have to stop and at least admire a piece of this wonderful ironstone!
I also found this wonderful vintage five finger vase for only $12...compared to $25 on ebay! Woo hoo! I love the raised hobnail design! It's just perfect for displaying roses!
This is actually my second five finger vase. I found this one on another thrifting expedition a while back...
...along with this fabulous 100+ year old frenchy find dating from la Belle Epoque! You can read more about it HERE. It contains rave reviews of Sarah Bernhardt, darling of the French theater, and an account of the visit to France of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra along with their little baby...happily unaware of the fate that awaits them.
It was a fun day visiting with my sweet sister who surprised me by slipping to the checkout and making a gift of my new finds. I'm a lucky duck all the way around! :-)

Oh,my, you certainly found some wonderful things that day! I love your new ironstone tureen. I am going to start looking for a five finger vase! I love the way flowers look displayed that way! Is the painted one Made in Portugal? It certainly looks like some of the pieces I own that have a similar pattern. I love the design. What a great day you had with your sister! Thanks for sharing! ReplyDeleteYour ironstone collection is beautiful and the new addition at a great price. Love those 5 finger vases and may have to keep my eyes open for one at the thrift shops. Great way to display roses. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI can never resist a nice ironstone tureen either! I have the same Red Cliff one found at the Goodwill for $15! And I love the 5 fingered vase. I've seen them but never found one at a bargain price. Nice job!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful finds. I found the same white finger vase at GW for a couple dollars. It's a favorite! I also recently found a tureen minus the spoon, but it is ordered. How sweet of your sister.
