For those of you who make many of your own Christmas decorations, I have some more ideas to share with you…this time using one of my favorite fabrics for the holidays…burlap! I love the texture and the rustic touch that it adds to my décor…and it’s inexpensive, too! Plus, it’s versatile so it can be used in so many different ways! Here are eight of my favorites...
1. Make a wreath
Just wrap a wreath form in strips of burlap and add your favorite embellishments for the perfect holiday accent! My BURLAP AND PLAID CHRISTMAS WREATH is topped off with handmade plaid fabric roses and pine cone roses as well. Instructions for both are included in the tutorial.
2. Découpage a deer
A gold foil deer that I had stashed in my attic and strips of burlap were almost all that I needed to create this BURLAP DECOUPAGE DEER. I love the way it adds a rustic look to my previously “glam” deer!
3. Sew a table runner
This RUFFLED BURLAP TABLE RUNNER is the perfect anchor for your holiday tablescapes from Thanksgiving through Christmas and continues to be a work horse all winter! A very detailed tutorial explains how to measure for a perfect fit as well!
I even added a length of plaid flannel ribbon to give it a festive Christmas look…so fun!
4. Make a no-sew tablerunner
However, even if you can’t or don't want to sew, you can still make a tablerunner! This BURLAP TABLERUNNER is finished with hand-tied fringe to give it even more texture!
I even criss-crossed a pair of them in this fun SNOWMAN TABLESCAPE as a nod to the snowman’s scarf!
5. Make a utensil pocket
Small pre-made bags were the starters for these BURLAP UTENSIL POCKETS. Just add a felt wreath (pattern included the post) and some pom pom berries and you are good to go!
6. Make stockings
Nothing says Christmas to me much more than plaid, so these BALLARD INSPIRED BURLAP STOCKINGS are finished off with a plaid cuff. The tutorial can actually be used for any fabric or fabric combination.
And here they are on my mantel...just waiting for Santa to arrive and fill them!
7. Make ornaments for your tree
My little FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS TREE features grain sack ornaments, galvanized stars...
...and easy-to-make NO-SEW BURLAP TASSELS. I love the rustic feel that they add!
8. Make a pillow
And finally, perhaps my favorite way to use burlap at Christmas...make a fun throw pillow! The tutorial for my POTTERY BARN INSPIRED JINGLE PILLOW includes the script as well.
