Easy Vintage Tartlet Tealights

One of my most recent thrifitng outings (read about it HERE) netted me something I had been wanting for a while…a little collection of vintage tartlet tins. And…that means that I get to make something that I have had cooking in my brain for a while…tartlet tealights! They just seem to me to add the perfect touch to the  holiday table…little bits of warmth scattered about the tablescape to make your guests feel special! And I discovered that they were even easier to make than I thought!

Here is what you will need:
  • Tartlet tins or other small metal containers
  • Tealight candles (Mine came in a pack of 16 from Dollar Tree)
  • Clean and dry tin can
  • Metal cookie cutter
  • Cookie sheet
  • Saucepan
  • Water

And here’s what you will do:
  1. Remove the tealight from the metal container. Carefully remove the wick by pulling it from the back.
  2. Place one or two wicks in the tartlet tins depending on their size. Place them on a cookie sheet or other heat-proof surface.
  3. Place the metal cookie cutter in the bottom of a pan. Add water to the top of the cookie cutter and bring to a boil. Turn down to a simmer, place the can on top of the cookie cutter and add the wax portion of the tealights. Allow them to melt and remove the pan from the heat. (IMPORTANT: Never leave the wax unattended. Always be sure there is sufficient water in the pan. Use caution when working with hot wax as you could be burned if you come into contact with it. Additional tips for melting wax can be found HERE.)
  4. Once the wax has melted, carefully pick up the can using hot pads and pour the melted wax into the tartlet tins, allowing a sufficient length of the wick to show. Allow to cool completely before handling.
