Easy and Inexpensive Handmade Gift Ideas

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy and Inexpensive Handmade Gift IdeasWith the holidays just around the corner, I thought I would share a few of my projects that would make great gifts…and are easy to make while being easy on the budget as well! There’s a little bit of everything here…from no-sew to light sewing, some painting, a little cutting and gluing and some iron-on transfers! I have to say that there’s nothing like getting a gift that was handmade…it really makes it extra special!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Wisteria Inspired CandlesFirst up, an easy seasonal project…my Wisteria inspired music candles. All you need is a candle, some Dollar Tree vases, paper and twine! The free graphics are even provided for you!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Monogrammed Serving BoardYou will not need much in the way of construction skills to create my Pottery Barn inspired monogrammed serving board. Believe me, I know…because I don’t have any and I managed to do it! An old thrift store cutting board…the more beat up the better…and some corner molding posts, plus glue and stain are all that it takes!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsI love these Pottery Barn inspired chalkboard tile place cards! And you can use them for more than just place cards! Add a little seasonal greeting or well-wishes to surprise your visitors. An old Scrabble game and some chalkboard paint will do the trick!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Script Bird PillowsThis vintage French script bird pillow is easier than it looks. It’s just an iron-on transfer applied to a frenchy fabric! The free graphic is included in the post.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsA package of inexpensive cloth napkins is transformed into French farmhouse numbered napkins with just an iron-on transfer…also provided for you!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle WrapsThe same graphic that was used in the napkins above is used to create these frenchy aged paper candle wraps…super easy and fun to make!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French LinensSuper-inexpensive Ikea tea towels are used for these DIY “vintage” French linens. They are not as hard to make as they look…that’s an iron-on transfer, not embroidery! All of the letters of the alphabet are there in the graphic so you can create your own monogram!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Tea Towel PillowAnd speaking of tea towels, don’t you love this vintage French tea towel pillow…made from a pretty tea towel and backed with burlap! If you really like this one, hold on to your hats because I have something special for you at the end of this post!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Script CandlesYou can’t get much easier than these French script candles…using a frenchy stamp and waterproof ink. Wouldn't a little bundle of them tied with pretty ribbon make a nice gift?

Confessions of a Plate Addict's Sweater Pillows and Burlap Rose TutorialAs winter approaches, everyone is sure to appreciate this sweater pillow with a burlap rose…made from an old thrift store sweater…or maybe a sweater with some sentimental attachment from your closet!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Boxwood and French ScriptHere’s another easy one… a chippy chalkboard with a pretty ribbon and a wreath! Or you can dress it up for the season with a little Christmas wreath and festive ribbon!

Confessions of a Plate Addict's Chalkboard Wine GlassesFinally, no more confusion about which glass is whose with these chalkboard wine glasses! A little chalkboard paint on the stem base and …voilà! Perfect hostess gifts!

OzzieMy co-host and CEO, the lovely Miss Ozzie, would like to remind you that using a fun and different wrapping paper helps to make your gift special, too!
This is just a sampling of the projects that you will find in my Project Gallery…where I have collected over 100 ideas for you to try! I hope you will head over and check it out!

  2. I'm so glad I happened upon your blog, and that you steered me to Barb's site. I'm moving into and renovating a historic 171 year old house and there are so many items that caught my eye. But if I have to pick one, I'm very excited to finally find a pair of Mason Jar Salt and Pepper Shakers. I had a set for many years, and one recently broke. I'm thrilled that I can replace them. Thank-you! dodylyn@gmail.com
