French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsI have another fun and easy project to share with you today…my French farmhouse numbered napkins! If you know me, you know I am always in search of ways to create a little frenchiness without spending a ton of money and these napkins do just that!

Ozzie My co-host today, our lovely CEO Miss Ozzie, suggested that I buy some plain white dinner napkins in bulk so that I would have enough for several projects. And…after a little search, I finally found them at Target at about $10 for a dozen…that’s about 80 cents each! They are not the thickest napkins but they have the feel of old linens.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered Napkins Graphic
The next step was to find the perfect graphic and it will come as no surprise that I found it at The Graphics Fairy! Karen was so kind as to share her lovely vintage French wreath with us so all I had to do was add the numbers! I have already reversed it for you so that it can be used as an iron-on transfer. I printed it at 8x10 size using Photoscape…a free downloadable photo editing program… and trimmed around each of the numbers. Some of you have asked what kind of transfer paper I use and it’s Avery Light Fabric Transfers. Simply follow the instructions on the package and apply the numbers to the napkins.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered Napkins And here is the result! I only did numbers one through four for now, but I have given you through number eight in case you need more. And…hey!…you are not limited to napkins! Just think about all of the other things you could number!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsAren’t they pretty? I love the vintage look! They are a wonderful complement to my mismatched collection of vintage silverplate flatware and dishes!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered NapkinsAnd…I finally splurged ($12 is a splurge for me) and bought a vintage blue Ball canning jar with one of those wonderful old zinc lids…love it! It’s the perfect container for my flatware! I have gathered them all up in my French wire egg basket…a $2.00 find at Goodwill several years ago…before they were stylish. I love it! It’s the real deal…with the handles well-worn from years of use!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French Linens You may remember seeing my egg basket here…when I showed you how to turn inexpensive IKEA tea towels into vintage-look “monogrammed” French linens using iron-on transfers! Can you tell I love the look of old French linens?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins And here’s a final look! I simply rolled them so that the numbers show and tied them with some jute twine to add a little texture and a vintage feel. Now…all I need is a French farmhouse to go with my napkins!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my French farmhouse numbered napkins! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

  3. These are great, Debbie! These would work so good with my Pottery Barn numbered napkin rings! I'm going to have to check out Target for the napkins. I was getting a package here and there from Christmas Tree Shop - 4.99 for a package of 4. Your price sounds a lot better!

  4. Hi Debbie,
Once again you have created something wonderful.
I love the napkins and wrapping them with the jute cord just adds a little something special. I might have to try and make these. Thanks for the transfer.

  11. Debbie, love, love, love these. I'm going to follow through on this project. Will look for napkins this week. Thanks for including 1-8 because that's what I'll need. Your presentation is totally charming! ~ Sarah
    PS
Question about printing off the design. It doesn't want to print off on one page and cuts off the bottom two numbers. Any suggestions?

  13. "$12 is a splurge for me."
Hahahaha -- LOVE it. 12 bucks is a splurge for me, too.
I like things cheap and easy. (Oh my, that could be taken several ways!)

The napkins are adorable. I love The Graphics Fairy, and finding a dozen napkins for $10 is brilliant. I usually raid HomeGoods for cheap napkins. I will have to check Target now; I like the twill look of the fabric.

    Great project.
Your ideas and follow-through are always beautiful and inspiring.
    Happy Spring!

  22. Hi Debbie, what a beautiful idea! Some time ago I found at a flea market six beautiful alemanisco napkins which someone had sewed together to make a tablecloth; I´m thinking seriously about separating them and giving them your "Frenchy treatment"... Thanks for sharing so many inspiring projects, I always find something interesting here!!!
    Hugs and blessings,

  25. Hi Debbie,
I love this idea. I'm currently working on your spoon, knife and fork tea towels. I just needed the name of the transfer paper and I'm off to Office Depot to get my supply. It's so sweet for you to turn the transfer around for us. I tried to do it in Photoshop and I didn't have a clue. I will be posting my tea towels in a few weeks. Thanks again for your cute ideas.

I have already added your blog to my Blog List for others to enjoy. I am doing a seminar soon on how to mix colorful plates, glasses, and accessories with plain white plates. Can't wait to do a black/white mix using your design. Thank you so much for sharing your talents. You know I actually bought some good transfer paper that the graphics fairy recommended, but I've started packing and now haven't a clue where it is. Hopefully it will show up when I start unpacking later this summer. Wish we lived closer dear friend!!

  41. Since there were so many comments I slowly trolled down reading them as I went. Wow your blog and your projects are incredible. I'll have to spend a couple hours or so reading your 60 projects and looking at more of your posts. Better plan on spending the night on your blog. Is that OK? Hope so cause I'm gonna have to do it anyway.
I'll be looking for some of those napkins at Target. We'll be in a craft show this month and I'd like to have some different classier items to sell. Hence the time I'll need to peruse your projects. I'll have to force myself not to keep them just to have them or they'd make a nice gift for friends and family (if they're nice).
Sure glad I save a transfer to print out the #'s for the napkins. Got 2 printings on one transfer. You are one extremely talented gal. So glad I found your blog. Happy Days

  45. Debbie, I left a comment earlier, but Mr. Magpie wanted me to ask (and I'd like to know, too) if you print this out on your own printer, or do you take it somewhere and have it printed? If your own, what kind of printer do you have?

    Thanks so much.

    xoxox,

    Sheila

  46. Hi Sheila! Please tell Mr. Magpie that I print it out on my own printer...a Kodak Easy Share....but any ink jet printer would do. And please tell him thank you for his interest in my little project! :-)...hugs...Debbie
