Outdoor Wednesday...or...What Is It?

IMG_7198 Can you identify this object? Is it the starship Enterprise, traveling at warp speed through the outer reaches of the universe, boldly going where no man has gone before? lol No? But you have to admit that it does look like it!! Perhaps the fact that I am joining Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday will give you a hint!

IMG_7201 It is actually the inner workings of one of my purple wave petunias taken in digital macro by my Canon Power Shot SD 630! It was a very sunny morning, thus the light streaming in from behind in the first shot. Isn’t it amazing?? I am definitely exploring strange new worlds with this camera!

IMG_7098 So I don’t guess that there’s any way I can convince you that this is some kind of alien space craft that has soft landed on the surface of a strange new purple planet?? No? lol It’s actually some sort of very fat moth/butterfly that was visiting my petunias! Isn’t it a beauty?? Do you see the insides of the petunia just beyond its head?

IMG_7219 And I don’t guess you will believe me when I tell you that this is a rare new breed of man-eating orchid that has recently been discovered in the deepest, darkest jungles of Africa? Hmmmm…I didn’t think so.

IMG_7205 Does this view help? I’ll give you a hint! Those of you who are cat fanciers and grow your own will know exactly what it is!!

IMG_7129It’s catnip in bloom! And here is Baby Kitty checking it out to see if it’s ready. Judging by the look on his face, I would say that it is! My staff loves to chew on this stuff!

Outdoor_Wednesday_logo_thumb[1] Thanks for dropping by and playing my guessing game! I hope you enjoyed it! Please be sure to drop by Susan’s beautiful blog to see some wonderful outdoor shots and find out who else is playing along! I’ll see you next time! A la prochaine!

  1. Debbie, these are just absolutely unbelievable. Jim just had a fit over them. He said you are really becoming a professional and you should enter these photos in some of the contests. I just love them. Really great. Hope you are having fun. Hugs, Marty

  2. What a fun post Debbie! You are becoming quite the photographer! Maybe we'll see you at the Rockport Art Festival next year. I've never seen catnip in bloom, what a neat looking plant. Is this part of your staff's benefit package? Hugs, Kat

  3. Oh Wow Debbie .. those certainly are amazing shots.. It's so fun playing around getting those shots huh.. My Daughter laughs at me all the time for taking so many different shots of the same object lol "Seriously Mom do you really need 40 shots of a glass of lemonade" hahaha She'll understand one day. To answer your question about my post for OW.. Yes! That's a raccoon riding on the back of a wild hog.. it's amazing the things you capture with those game cameras. That wasn't one that my husband had show up.. although he'd been in hog heaven if it was.. someone had emailed him that and I snagged it to show. His luck consists of getting only pictures of the turkeys and deer on his hunting property.
    Have a great week..
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  9. I have a Canon Powershot A720 IS and I LOVE m macro setting. I think I have taken more macro shots than any others and have more pix of flowers, praying matids, insects, insect eggs, turtles, spiders etc. than children. They sit still longer! That first shot has splendid lighting, wonderful. Have you tried uploading any to picnik.com? It is a free site that allows you to crop, add text etc. and save. Very fun!

  39. What a great job you did on the pictures. You are quite the photographer.

Kitty looks like she, or he has been into some wacky weed.

  40. Well, I take enough photos close-up of the inner workings of a flower to know it was some sort. It is indeed beautiful to see what is inside the little world of a growing plant, isn't it? And also interesting to watch the winged creatures partake of it. Especially funny to see you cat look as though it is on a trip. And I don't mean a road trip either!
