Do You Know These People???...and...A Reminder

Today I had more fun than I have had in I don't know when! I got to meet Gollum! (She's the pretty one on the left!) In case you are not acquainted with her, then you need to rush right over to her blog Designs by Gollum and meet her! Not only does she have a beautiful blog, but she is also a celebrity...a well-known author whose real name is Michael Lee West! She came to Foxtale Books in Woodstock, Georgia, to promote her latest novel, Mermaids in the Basement.

Some of you may remember when I got to meet Susan at Between Naps on the Porch and behaved like a goofball tourist at her house, gawking at her beautiful porch swing and her funny French pig, Jean-Claude! Well, this was no better! But at this point, I was too excited to care! And not only that, but I got to meet Rose at A Santamakers Journey as well!! Here we are...Rose, Susan, Michael Lee and me (left to right)! If you had told me 6 months ago that I would be sitting in the same room as Michael Lee and between the ladies who created my two favorite porches on Rate My Space, I would never have believed you!

Michael Lee is such a kind and generous person. She made all of us feel welcome and answered everyone's questions at length. I must say that I have never in my life met anyone who is more enthusiastic about her craft than Michael Lee. She loves her characters and they are very real to her. She definitely has a way of creating those eccentric personalities that the South is famous for. And not only has she published five novels, she has also written a cookbook, Consuming Passions. I scooped that one up for Foodie Friday! If you saw my last post, you know I need help! Here she is talking on the phone to her son, Young Bandwidth, and checking on her beloved dog, Mister.

Dear Michael Lee was kind enough to bring door prizes and I am excited to say that I was the recipient of one of them...this cute "chocolate" bunny! Doesn't she look real?? Just look at her little apron with "icing" trim and her basket filled with faux jelly beans!! Isn't she the cutest thing? I will treasure her always as a reminder of a wonderful day filled with laughter and fellowship! Thanks so much, Michael Lee, for everything!!

If you would like more information about Michael Lee West or her books, please visit her website here!

All you Georgia bloggers and friends...please don't forget our luncheon on Monday, March 2nd at La Madeleine! Details are on the link on my sidebar! It looks as though we will have about 20 people there! What fun that will be! Now I am on a quest to meet as many of you as possible!!!

  1. Oh, I bet you had such an awesome day. That must have been a wonderful experience to meet these ladies, what fun!! It sounds like there will also be a good turnout for the lunch. I wish I lived closer so that I could meet all of you.

I cannot wait to see what you make from that cookbook for Foodie Friday. I think I will try to participate this coming Friday.

By the way, I thought that was a real chocolate bunny!!

  2. Debbie, what a fun day! I'm so happy that you all had such a great time together and that you got to meet Michael Lee. And congrats on winning that cute bunny! I love its little apron. :-)

Love the pictures of you all together and the one of her on the phone with Young Bandwith, checking on that adorable Mister! I really want to buy her cookbook, too, as it might inspire me to dust off my stove and surprise Mr. Magpie with the cullinary skills which, though rusty, really do exist. ;-) Wish I could have been with you in Georgia today!

Sending you much love and hoping the rest of your weekend is equally happy...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  5. How wonderful that you three (Debbie, Rose, and Susan) could get together with someone that has become a legend in their own time. Michael is probably responsible for most of the blogs that I read. Many bloggers found blogland as a result of her providing a safe haven in this fascinating realm of the world wide web.

Truly hope everyone has a wonderful time at your planned event on Monday. How interesting it should be to meet and converse with everyone, known only until now by way of their blogs. I am sure a good time will be had by all attendees. I'm praying that the surly weather will be a fading memory by Monday.
