What's on My Wall?...Wordless Wednesday...and...Outdoor Wednesday

Today I am participating in three Wednesday events....am I overly enthusiastic?? Be sure to click on the links to the hostesses of these events so that you can visit their wonderful blogs and support these new ventures in Blogland!

Welcome to the first What's on your Wall Wednesday hosted by our "hostess with the mostest" Barb at Grits and Glamour! Be sure to stop by her blog to see her beautiful home and to find a list of this week's participants!

Welcome to my home! I have been hiding a dirty little secret from you and that is... the extent of my plate obsession! But now that I know you a little better, I am going to begin giving you a few peeks at my plates. This week I'll show you my front door. You see the four Quimper plates hanging above the door? Well, there are plates over almost every door in my house...are you still my friend? lol OK...then I'll show you my plates up close and personal as well as the little Quimper wall pocket to the right of my door.

This is my pride and joy...my favorite piece of Quimper ware! It is an antique double wall pocket with the traditional little Breton man and woman hand-painted on it. Quimper is in Bretagne...Brittany... a province of France...so the little figures are wearing the traditional costumes of that region. I love that they are together because it keeps me from having to buy two of them! You'll see what I mean when you see my plates!

This plate is from a series of Genre Ancien Wallplates which were created from designs in the archives and museum collections of HB Henriot, the most famous producer of Quimper ware. These plates are not antiques, but are copies of them. You will notice that there is always a fanciful plant painted beside the figures. Here is the little Breton, or man from Bretagne, who is playing a traditional Breton instrument...

...and this is the matching Bretonne, or woman from Bretagne. She has been spinning and is holding a spindle. I love the flowers in this particular pair of plates! But you must see my dilemma...you have to buy both of them!!!

And here is the Breton, smoking his clay pipe. Notice his wooden shoes and his wonderful bloomers!

and here is his partner....also holding a spindle. But you do see that you have to buy both, don't you? You can't leave the little guy all alone without his honey pie! Can you??

And so it begins...your first peek into my addiction to plates! Please be sure to visit Barb to see more of the participants and what's on their walls!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to my first Wordless Wednesday hosted by my friend Dixie at French Lique, Texas! Be sure to visit her blog to see a list of the other participants, get the word for the week and find out how to join in the fun!
Garden....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday hosted by my fellow Southerner Susan at A Southern Daydreamer! Don't forget to stop by her blog to see who is participating and to check out the wonderful outdoor spaces!

Vincent Van Gogh's view of the same garden...."The Courtyard of the Hospital at Arles." Van Gogh was admitted to this hospital in Arles, France, after cutting off a portion of his ear while arguing with his friend and fellow artist Paul Gauguin. 1. Debbie - I'm still your friend. I have a few plates on my walls, too, so I know what you mean. However, you probably have more on your walls than I have on mine. And I for sure don't know as much about them as you do. Anyway, I can't wait to see more of the plates on your walls. I put you on my list of award reciepents, but I see you have all of them already! LOL! Come by anyway; I always enjoy your visits.

  2. Bautiful Quimper plates, Debbie. I am turning green with envy:-) But my favorite is the double wall pocket. Love your garden pictures!...Christine

  3. Debbie, I love your plates, and if you saw what was inside of my cabinets, you would understand why I say that! I loved your garden shots, too. BTW, I posted something on Blue Monday just for you (and you need to check the link on my page under Shiny Objects because it has to do with kitties and pottery), because I don't think you saw it. With your industrious post, I know understand why! LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  4. Debbie, I love your plates. And I adore your Quimper wall pocket. I could easily become addicted to plates, too. I do have a few plates I could share. But, nothing like yours.

    The gardens are so beautiful. I wish we could take a afternoon stroll though them together.
    Hugs, Terrie

  5. Hi Debbie...I love your Quimper ware..I have a plate addiction as well but not with such elegant plates like you have...I happen to love souvenir state plates...You know those tacky things from the 1950's..I actually have 2 complete sets...No, they are not on my wall. Thank heavens for that!!

  6. Wow, you have been a busy bee today! I love your plates, you have such a wonderful collection. But that wall pocket is the best. And thank you again for the mini vacation, just beautiful and just what I needed right now (it's 29 degrees and dropping and they are using the dreaded "s" word on the weather!) Hugs, Kathy

  8. Way to go---THREE Wednesday Events all rolled into one! I love blogging--you just learn soooo much---like those lovely plates of yours! I have never heard of Quimper before today!! You certainly have a wonderful collection--and I can see why you love them!
    Oh the courtyard gardens are lovely--so wonderful that it is the same spot Van Gogh painted. I need to go to the link you provided and read about the fight he had and the reason he cut off and mailed his ear to someone. It's been a very long time since I read that story! :)
    Well, hope you have a great Wordless Wednes., What's on your Wall Wednes., and Outdoor Wednesday! :) Dana

    PS Loved your tablescape, too! You have been a busy blogger!! :)

  9. Debbie, I'm baaaaack! No, No. Not those kitties. The kitty riding the gator on the teapot (the faux kitty) in the Blue Monday post. Then once there, you have GOT TO check out the link (on the sidebar) to the gallery. They have some kitty teapots that will set you free! ;-) Go to the veeeeeeeeery end of the sidebar under Shiny Objects! But see the one in the post first. It's a hoot. He looks like he has a mohawk or something. He's also an angel, an oxymoron if ever there was one because I've lived with kitties throughout my life, and they are the definition of the word mischief. ;-) Nothinbg angelic there... well, maybe their sweet faces. :-)

    XO,

    Sheila

  15. Ok, I just enjoyed Quimper plates. They are just lovely. As I read your descriptions I read the word Breton. I just had a lovely crepe at a local restaurant. The crepe is called the Coq Breton. I know no french but I wonder if Coq is chicken ?

    Anyway, really did enjoy the plates and the crepe.

  44. Absolutely love the vibrant colors of the Quimper Ware. Makes the scenes seem so alive. Some things just belong or look better in pairs, if it is possible to have a pair. Salt/pepper sets, candlesticks, etc. You get the idea. Sometime you are so attracted to something that has lost it's mate, that you acquire it anyway. Then your search begins for another orphaned one like the one you have.

    The pictures of the gardens are so wonderful. Hardly seems like Spring is due to begin here March 20th when it is still so cold outside. Batten down the hatches. It is due to get colder before it gets warmer. The heat of Summer will be here soon enough.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Love the plates, what a beautiful collection. And those photographs, breathtaking. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Glenda...Oh you are right about summer! Soon I'll have to mow the lawn again...a job that gets increasingly less interesting as summer progresses! But I want it done my way...lol! Yes, my sister gave me a single Quimper plate..with a litle man. They are expensive and I could not have expected two! But I knew where she got it...at an antique store in Madison...so I had to get in the car and go get his mate!! Ohh...I'm sounding a little obsessive! Hope you are having a great week! Thanks for dropping by! I'm always happy to see a comment from you!...Debbie

  52. Hi Debbie! Three new weekly blogging events...what fun! I think your plate addiction is 100% acceptable...especially here in home decor blog land! I absolutely love your Quimper, and yes, I totally agree that you should have two of everything to keep that little Breton couple together forever. :-)

    As for that beautiful garden, well, I think if you are going to have to be in a hospital, how much better for the patient if he gets to gaze out onto that scene during his stay, as opposed to an ugly old concrete parking lot!

But life is short and one should surround oneself with what makes one happy. Thanks for sharing the photos. I think your little wall pocket is adorable. I like to fill my pockets with lavender. Makes the guest room smell a bit like France. ~ Sarah
