Look What Jumped into My Trunk!...or...My Non-Virtual Shopping Trip

The other day, I promised that I would show you the things that actually came home with me on our virtual shopping trip to the Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta, Georgia. And no, sadly, the "goat"rack didn't make it into the trunk...sigh...but several other little treasures did. One of them is this little painted cast iron soap dish. It's not an antique...in fact none of my finds are...but I thought it was sweet and old-fashioned looking. And yes...I keep a sugar bowl in my bathroom! I put it on a bread plate and it looks like a little soup tureen, don't you think? I keep my rings and earrings in it!

This soap is actually from our trip to Côté Soleil back in November on my sister's birthday. It was made in Provence and has herbs in it. Can you see them? It smells wonderful! The whole bathroom is filled with the most delightful fragrance. You might also notice that my family is forbidden to use it...lol!! I don't want the word Provence to wash away!!

Here's another one of my finds. Isn't it a cutie? It's a mouse! I love mice...yes, I know...and goats and crows! I love them so much that in high school my nickname was Mouse. lol It's a good thing they didn't know about the goats or the crows!!

Do you see what he's holding? It's a cup and saucer! Maybe he's headed to a mouse tea party!

Look at his little tail. It curls around and helps to keep him standing. I love his little profile! Isn't he the cutest thing? Have you figured out what he is?

He's a candle holder!! Isn't he precious? The book behind him is normally the perch of someone else...

It's Mr. Cat!!! He looks like he is pleased to have a new neighbor!

Maybe a little too pleased!! lol

Here's another one of my treasures...a bunny print for my guest bedroom...which is still in the works. Very much still in the works. I am planning on showing it on Metamorphosis Monday eventually, but right now it is so bad, it needs before-before pictures! But that's another post. Back to the bunny...isn't he cute? That's the bedding I will be using behind him. I like the black and cream toile with the red. But there's more...

He has a brother! Isn't he a cutie, too? And the comforter has a black and cream windowpane check on the reverse side! Several other elements of the bedding are also in the check. There is also a black and cream stripe and...

Hey! Baby Kitty! Don't you see I'm talking to the people? What are you doing? Where's Isabella? Ohhhhh....that bump in the comforter is Isabella! I don't seem to be able to do a post without my trusty assistants! Now where was I? Oh, yes...

Here they are together! I have turned the comforter so you can see both sides. Which one should I use? The toile or the windowpane check? Both will be in the room, but I can choose which one to emphasize. What do you think? Hmmmm....

Now this one is a little guessing game. What is it? It looks like a little porcelain book, doesn't it? The colors are what first attracted me. I love blue and yellow!! It's so cheerful!

If you turn it, you can see the words, The gift is small...Good will is all written along the side of the little book. Any guesses yet?

Now it begins to get really interesting! There's a cork!! What can it be? It is obviously intended to hold a liquid! I bet I know what you are thinking! The clerk thought the same thing when she was ringing it up. No...it's not a lady's flask! Give up??

I left the tag on so you would believe me!! It is a reproduction of a Williamsburg lady's hand warmer! Warm water would be put inside and a lady could keep her hands warm by holding it! Did you guess correctly? I also like the fact that it came from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I've never been there and would love to go. But now I have something from their gift shop!
Well, that's it for now! Those are my little goodies. And you see, I didn't even need the U-Haul! After all, this was non-virtual money! However, my friend Linda and I have another trip planned soon. Who knows what might jump into my trunk next time!

  3. Hi Debbie,
We're moving out of the deep freeze, forecast is for 20 above 0 today ( I may have to get out the shorts). I love all of your little shopping finds, I have the soap dish at home but I sure would like that mouse/cup candle holder. I can't wait to see your guest bedroom, I'm still torn, but I think I will vote for the toile. Cindy

  4. What fabulous finds! I love those bunny prints, but that hand warmer is precious. I wonder how many ladies used these as a flask (why warm only your hands lol) As far as the comforter, both sides are gorgeous, but I think I have to vote for the toile (turn down the top so the check peeks out?) Can't wait to see the room. Hugs, Kathy

  5. Oh DEbbie, your treasures are just fabulous. I love them all, the mouse is so cute especially with the kitty sitting beside him. Your soap dish is just great and the bunny prints are soooooo cute. I think the hand warmer is the most interesting, those ladies were very fashionable. I agree with Kathy about the toile with the check turned down, but you can always reverse it the other way, how neat to have options. I can't wait to see the room. You always do such great things. Hugs, Marty

  8. Debbie, I love all of your finds! You could be my personal shopper, because I would be pleased with anything you found! I love that hand warmer. What a neat find! I also would have picked it up because of the blue and yellow. And then to read what it was would have just sealed the deal, and it would have been coming home with me. laurie

  9. Oooooh ....aaaaah...loved all of your finds! How lucky to have spotted those! I still haven't been to the one in Alpharetta, although I frequent the Queen of Hearts in Marietta on Canton Hwy. when I get a chance.
Trying to think of an event to attend that all of us Atlanta area girls can meet up... any thoughts?
Where oh where do you store all of your dishes, girl?

  11. I totally love your sugar bowl/jewelry repository. I use a little container in the kitchen to hold my watch and rings that was designed to hold artificial sweetener packets. It rests behind the sink faucets, so is always at hand. I bought it to match my teas rose china. I do have one that holds Splenda, but the other one I use when I remove my jewelry, to clean up in the kitchen.

Your soap dish is a wonderful acquisition also. Your kitty is adorable in his stalking/crouching position. Looks to me like you had a good trip.

  12. Hi Glenda! It is always so nice to have a visit from you! I see we have something in common...Splenda!! I keep mine in the creamer that matches my sugar bowl. Gotta have my Splenda! It used to be hard to get it in restaurants...more expensive, I guess...so I always kept some in my purse. Now everyone seems to have it. Are you freezing down there like we are? Keep warm!...Debbie

  14. What great things jumped into your trunk! I love the check/toile, but I would have to pick the check. A few years ago I went to a perfume/soap factory in Grasse. I tucked soaps all in my suitcase, and it still smells faintly of lavender.

Hey--the South is supposed to warm up today! I've had to keep the basement faucets dripping.

And those rabbit pictures darling, really; you know they need to make it to my home. Your toile looks very similar to what I have.. Gotta love that toile..Or anyway I do. lol How is Butterbean and Page doing? I pray much better.
    I hope you're having a terrific w/k.

  19. Debbie, I actually found a small dispenser that holds tiny Splenda tablets that I carry in my purse. I believe I got it at Walmart.

Weather here is supposed to moderate today as far as the cold is concerned, low tonight expected to come in around 37, but the TV says there is a 70% chance of rain tomorrow and the temps tomorrow night are expected to be in the 30s. We'll be fine.
Hope you warm up also. Saw on TV that North Georgia could get a bit of snow tonight and Sunday. Try to stay off the roads if you can.

  27. Hi Debbie! Wow...LOTS of goodies came home with you! This is even better than the virtual shopping spree. I truly love everything!

I love that you put that cute mouse candle holder with Mr. Cat...very clever. Your bunny prints are ideal to go in your room with that gorgeous black and white toile. And...I don't blame you one bit for not wanting the "Provence" washed out of your perfect French bar of soap. :-) Enjoy all of your lovely new purchases...that sounds like a delightful place to shop. I wish I were further North.

I go to the Queen of Hearts all the time with my husband, we love that store. I've gotten some real gems too, my favorite is the chandelier on the top banner of my blog for Catherine de th`e Cups. Yes sirree, that's where I got it, our 25th anniversary gift to ourselves. I'm hoping some of us Georgia bloggers can have a get together this spring or summer.....I'll bring home made scones! ~CC Catherine

  34. Beautiful finds! I especially love the mouse candleholder. I have a little lamp in my son's room that is a small mouse reading a book. There is something about mice, they are so cute.....as long as they are not real and in the house that is.

Thanks for coming over and looking at my fabrics. It's good to hear from other people how things look together. I'm starting to have that moment of doubt where I look at the things I bought and wonder if it will all pull together. I'll definitely post the room on one of Susan's metamorphisis Mondays, I'm just not sure which one it will be! Tomorrow I'll be posting something else though, I can't wait to see what everyone shares, it should be fun!

  39. Debbie, those items are all really cute treasures. I really like the sugar bowl & bread plate in the bathroom, what a clever idea. I also really like the print, is it Johnson Bros.? Yesterday I purchased two cute Johnson Bros. bread plates for my dining room wall at Marshall’s. They only had the bread plates. I was disappointed, because I have been searching stores for the platters & plates, but I cannot find any.

Your assistants seem to behave like my assistants. But, aren’t they wonderful?? They bring so much fun and pleasure into your life. They really love to participate in projects!!

I think you should use the toile side of the comforter. It is so ironic, because I was searching the internet this morning for a red toile coverlet for my bedroom. I think I am going with the one at JC Penny’s. I want to change up the look in my bedroom in the spring.

As always, I love all of your goodies, they are very cute. Have a great day.

  40. Debbie, you really got some treasures on your shopping trip! That seems to be a wonderful place to shop. My favorite is the mouse candle holder!!! But coming close behind are the iron soap holder and the hand warmer. The bunny picutres are pretty, too, but the mouse is my favorite. BTW, I like the bunny pictures best on the window check. Can't wait to see what you decide. Have a great week!!

  49. Hi Debbie,
Good morning and thanks for the nice comments on our garage. My husband is a very patient man, he teaches high school kids building construction and woodworking. For the past 8 years they have built a home each year. I don't know how he does it but someday I'll post some pics of the houses they have built. Are you working on your tablescape? I'm looking forward to another one of yours. Anyway, I'm off to work--- have a nice Monday. Cindy

Are you doing another tablescape? I can't wait to see it. Hugs, Kathy
