1. Burn candles that have a fall scent. This is my new favorite…Bath and Body Works Heirloom Pumpkin. My whole house smells heavenly!
2. Add some fall mums to your home. Home Depot already has oodles of them in the garden department…and in all sorts of wonderful colors! Small yellow mums star in this fall centerpiece.
3. Head on over to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Rumor has it that they are bringing them out early this year...at the end of August!
4. Go to a near-by pumpkin patch…and take the kids! Our favorite in the north Georgia mountains opens at the end of August!
5. Eat some boiled peanuts. OK…this one may be a Southern thing, but they are so yummy and they just taste like fall to me! I am lucky because the best boiled peanuts anywhere are sold at a little farm stand about 10 minutes from me. Raw peanuts should be available soon, if they are not already, so you could even make your own using the simple recipe found here.
6. Add a little fall to your décor. Even if you aren’t ready to go full-blown fall, just few additions, such as my shirt pumpkin pillow and no-sew shirt pumpkins, will suggest that fall feeling!
And if you are lucky enough to already sport the appropriate fall colors like Baby Kitty, you can just relax on that one!
7. Go apple picking. Local apples are available right now in the north Georgia mountains. If you live in this area, you will find a list of harvest dates by variety here. Make a day of it and take the kids!
8. Add a fall wreath or basket to your front door. Hey, you don’t have to do your whole porch…no pressure!
9. Go to a corn maze. Yep…the one near me opens for business the fist weekend in September...but you might want to wait a little while for that one. It's still too darn HOT down here in the South!
10. Bake something pumpkin-y. It will makes your whole house smell soooo good…and it’s yummy, too! If you are looking for a recipe, you will find one here.
And just in case you are in the mood for a little more fall, here is my fall porch tour from last year. This year’s is still at the “wreath only” stage for now.
And finally, here’s a peek at my home all decked out for fall last year. I have some ideas cooking and I’m in the planning stages for this year…just need a trip to the pumpkin patch to get started!
And that's it! Before you know it, the real deal will be here and it will be double the fun!
Don't forget to pin it!

ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration, Debbie! I got started over the weekend; and lighting a pumpkin scented candle just set the mood. It may still be in the 90's outside; but, it's Fall indoors! Lol!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, those are so e great choices!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your cute pumpkins you made! And yes about Starbuck's! Yum!

Debbie, Come and decorate my house anytime and you can also leave some pumpkin bread...I wouldn't mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration. Just got my hands on most of my fall décor and need to get a move on making changes.
ReplyDeleteCindy
all great ideas.. I stuffed some sweater pumpkins over the weekend.
ReplyDeletejust one more " feel like Fall tip" to add..
I have the air turned down on 62 and 3 mega turbo fans going on in the family room where I sit in my flannel jammies with a hot cocoa flavored coffee.. feelin sorta like fall in here as long as I don;t look out the window.
I'm proud of myself, I placed a wreath on my porch wall and nothing more. There are sings of Fall on the trees here in N. Michigan but that's it. It's supposed to be in mid 80's and muggy tomorrow, so as much as I want Fall to be here I can't get in the mood until it feels like it outdoors. IFor me until the daily temps have to dip into the low 60's and the night lows dip into the 40's which will be this coming weekend according to the Mr. Weatherman. :) I also have to smell someone's woodburning stove, LOVE that smell!! Thanks for the tips, I will slowly hopefully be checking them off my list the start of this weekend :) Happy Fall!! :) -Bev
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I'm going to light one of my pumpkin candles as we speak. =)

Debbie, Thanks for all the Fall inspiration. I really need it. :)...All except the boiled peanuts. I'm headed back to your post for more inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDeb all wonderful ideas and I will soon be embracing some of them. Great post!
ReplyDeletegreat inspiring post. We took a road trip thru Ellijay and the area around there last year and loved it. Makes me want to go back for the Granny Smiths the end of September.
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love cooler weather, I'm not ready to see summer go yet. How did it fly by so fast this year? Of course, it was right at 100° here today. So, the temperatures still say summer. Maybe October will bring cooler days. Then I will be in the mood for some of your great fall ideas.
Judith
Pumpkin is the magic word when it comes to fall! I'm so ready for cooler weather, but until it comes, I think I'll stay inside and bake something pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteFall is one of my favorite seasons, too. I love the colors, the scents, the cooler weather, and just about everything about it, but raking the leaves! Even that isn't so bad, because you get to be outside in all the autumn glory. One of my very favorite tips is the same as you: creating the scent of the season. I too, do this by baking, simmering potpourri, or even a candle. I also like the smell of a good pot roast in the slow cooker. I have a recipe that calls for apple cider and it smells heavenly. Thanks for sharing!
