Fresh Summer Recipes...Features from The Scoop #73

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fresh Summer Recipes I am having so much fun as the new host of The Scoop linky party! It gives me a chance to see what all of you wonderfully creative people are up to this summer! I will be featuring some of your creations here on my blog, as well as sharing them on Facebook here and on Pinterest here…so be on the lookout! This week at The Scoop #73, I was inspired by your recipes using fresh summer-time fruits and veggies!

IMG_2605 Aren’t these veggies beautiful? Fairhope Supply Co. reminded us of the bounty of freshness that is available at our local farmer’s market!

1cornsmallplate-705x469 Barb at The Everyday Home has my mouth watering with her homemade creamed corn! She adds a secret ingredient that you will want to try!

spiced corn on the cob 031 And head over to Happier Than a Pig in Mud for some fun ideas for kicking up your corn on the cob!

Avocado Egg Salad I love egg salad and I love avocados so I am trying this recipe from Posed Perfection…sounds yummy!

Camping Guacamole 083 And my heart skipped a beat when I saw this one from Rustique Restoration! I think they serve guacamole in heaven!

7239f6654459e114977ca12fea646211_thuI loved this one from Make Mine Lemon…pineapple buttermilk sherbet! My dad was a big fan of pineapple sherbet…and of buttermilk…so this one has me feeling very nostalgic.

071712092324 I am a huge fan of blueberries. To me they are summer all rolled into one little berry! So you know I loved this recipe for cheesecake with homemade blueberry sauce from Creative Ideas who reminds us that July is National Blueberry Month!

Trio of Dips with Strawberries 1 Fresh strawberries are another summer favorite of mine! The Kitchen Is My Playground gives us a trio of dips to go along with them!

SAM_1122 And if you put strawberries and blueberries together, I’ll be the first one in line! Just look at this beautiful blueberry strawberry Charlotte cake created by Twigg Studios!

berry-caprese-bruschetta-001 And here they are together again in this berry Caprese bruschetta from Home is Where the Boat Is…so pretty!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Strawberry Tunnel CakeAnd finally, I am sneaking in my own recipe here…my no-bake strawberry tunnel cake all decorated for the 4th…but really good all summer long!

Pottery Barn Inspired {Chalkboard Tile} Place Cards

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsNow you all know what a big, fat copy cat I am, so when I saw the slate tile place cards in the Pottery Barn fall preview, I knew I had found my next inspiration! Could it be any simpler…or cuter?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place Cards And do you see what it is? Yes…it’s the holder and tiles from a Scrabble game re-purposed as place card holders! Woo hoo! I finally found a new use for that old game that has been in my closet for ages! I simply stained the tile holders using Minwax Gunstock to give them a more vintage look. Then I spray-painted some of the tiles using chalkboard paint! Easy peasy!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsAnd now, each time I have guests over for dinner, all I have to do is erase and change the letter tiles to spell the names! Is that a great idea or what?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place Cards The Pottery Barn version uses slate, but I really can’t see a difference. Besides…their version is $20 for a set of two (and is not even available yet) and mine was…wait for it…free! Woo hoo!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsIn fact, I think this is such a good idea that I might just suggest to my grandson that we do that to all the Scrabble tiles and invent a new version…DIY Scrabble…where we add in whatever letters we want! Hmmm…or is that somewhat like stacking the deck on Candyland so that he would win? Now…don’t tell me you have never done that! Sometimes a granny has to do what a granny has to do!

Baby Kitty and Naughty Cat And as for my co-host today…Baby Kitty is busy keeping an eye on Naughty Neighbor who has dropped by to see how the caged catnip is faring!  Very well, thank you…and out of your reach! It seems that when it comes to safe-guarding his catnip, a cat has to do what a cat has to do!

Summer Showcase of Homes And…mark your calendars! A fun event is coming this summer...July 22-26...with 25 bloggers opening up thier homes and inviting you inside!
