All-Natural Spiced Apple Simmering Potpourri

In case you haven’t heard me say it, I love fall! It’s my favorite season…sweaters, bonfires, pumpkins and frost! (Yes…frost…so I can stop mowing the grass! lol) I love the smell of fall and the beautiful fall foliage! Only one problem here…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Spiced Apple Simmering Potpourri …it’s the middle of October and here’s how my trees look! We are having some cooler mornings, but I have to work hard to bring on that fall feeling. So I have come up with a solution.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Spiced Apple Simmering PotpourriAt least I can make my home smell like fall! I know everyone has spiced pumpkin everything, but it’s apples that say fall for me! I tried several recipes and have finally concocted my own version of spiced apple simmering potpourri.

Here’s what you will need:
  • 1 apple
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 to 5 star anise (I found mine at World Market.) **
  • 5 to 15 whole cloves **
  • 1 tsp of apple pie spice
  • 2 cups of apple juice
  • 2 cups of water
** Adjust the amount of star anise and whole cloves that you use according to how much you like those scents. If you cannot find star anise, it will be fine to omit it.

  1. Place the apple juice and water in a sauce pan
  2. Cut the apple into 4 pieces, leaving the peeling on
  3. Add the apple and the remaining ingredients to the sauce pan and bring to a boil
  4. Reduce to a simmer and let the smell of fall permeate your home! :-)
Be certain to watch the water level and don’t let it get too low. I like to put mine in the refrigerator and reuse it over several days. My 15-year-old grandson even said I like that. It smells like fall!  Yaay! Just what I was going for!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Spiced Apple Goats Milk SoapAnd to add even more of the scent of fall to your home, try my Five Minute Spiced Apple Goats Milk Soap. Honestly, if I had known how easy it was to make, I would have tried this long ago!
And believe it or not, fall is still arriving at my house so stay tuned for more ideas!

Ozzie Miss Ozzie says she doesn’t know what the big deal is about fall anyway…as long as there is a nice sun puddle to snooze in! Sometimes I agree!
