Hmmmm…I see that my co-host Baby Kitty is a little aggravated with me because I stole his thunder and revealed the price. He wants to tell you where I found it…so hit it, BK! “Where else…Goodwill!” I was on the hunt for a sweater for the sweater wreath that I showed you recently when I spied it on the top shelf! And then when I saw the price tag…only $3.63!…it was a real “start the car” moment!
Other than being a little dusty, it is in great condition! The wicker wrap is perfect as is the glass. I have seen similar demijohns in antique and flea markets for $80 to $100!
A close inspection reveals that it is an eight liter Viresa demijohn. There are little bubbles in the glass, leading me to believe that it is handmade. With some research, I discovered that it appears to date from the 1950s…so I can call it vintage! Woo hoo! But I have been unable to find out the origin of Viresa glass, so if you can add anything, I would appreciate it!
I placed it on my bargain Pottery Barn outlet tray along with a few other favorites…
…like these wonderful vintage Carcassonne postcards. I found these while antiquing several years ago for $5.00 and snatched them right up. They reminded me of my visit to Carcassonne, a medieval walled village in France, as a college student. You can read more about them and get a peek inside the little book here.
I also added a deer shed atop my stack of Charles Faudree French Country décor books…always my go-to source for inspiration. (I am so sad that he died recently.) I like the way the shed has turned grey after having been exposed to the elements in the woods!
Also on the tray…a bundle of vintage spindles that I found at my favorite “junque” store a year or so ago for $4.75 for all seven! I still love them!
And there you have it…my “new” wicker wrapped vintage demijohn in its new home! I have to take a peek sometimes just to remind myself that it’s still there! Here’s hoping it’s just the first of many great finds in the new year!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed seeing my bargain demijohn! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
