Pottery Barn Inspired Monogrammed Serving Board

I promised to show you how I did it and here it is...and just in time for the holidays! I know I always say this, but I am really super excited about the way this project turned out! Sooo…I couldn’t wait to share it with you while you still have time to try it before the holidays if you wish! I have been eyeing those monogrammed vintage wooden serving boards on Pottery Barn and plotting how to make my own for weeks now. I finally found just what I needed to complete it!

My co-host Miss Kitty is excited, too! (Can’t you tell?) Their version costs more than $60 and mine came in for under $5.00 since I already had much of what I needed! Woo hoo! All I had to buy was the cutting board…a Goodwill find for under $2.00…and the baseboard corner posts that serve as legs…all four for under $3.00 at Home Depot.

Here are the essential supplies:

• An old cutting board…the more dinged up, the better
• Four baseboard corner posts cut to the desired length to serve as legs
• Wood stain…I used Minwax Vermont Maple
• Black Sharpie marker
• Adhesive…I used clear Liquid Nails
• Sandpaper

First, using the Sharpie marker, transfer your monogram to the unfinished cutting board. (Please forgive me…I was so excited that I didn’t take photos as I went along.) I printed mine and then turned a piece of artist’s charcoal sideways and covered the back with charcoal as a sort of carbon paper. Then I traced over it with a pencil. I filled in with the Sharpie and then sanded a little to make it look time-worn.

Next, I painted the board and the legs with several coats of the stain, wiping it off in between for a more vintage look. When everything had dried, I used the Liquid Nails to adhere the legs to the board. Super easy! The hardest part was sawing the legs to the length I wanted with my little saw and miter box!

And that’s it! I love it! Now that I know what I am doing, I could knock another one off in less than an hour. And I might just do that…in another size! Hmmm…and Christmas is right around the corner! Can you say handmade gift?

I love the time-worn look with the cracks in the board and the cutting marks on the surface! The faded look of the monogram helps to add to the vintage charm, don’t you think? Please note...I will not be serving food or cutting on it directly since I worked so hard to achieve the finish. I will use it more as a trivet or a pretty base for my serving dishes.

And…I will be using it as the centerpiece for my Pottery Barn inspired Thanksgiving tablescape! Yes…I had to do another one so I could use my monogrammed serving board! lol (Here’s my Pumpkins and Pewter Tablescape if you have not seen it yet.) Yikes! Thanksgiving is almost here and I am not ready! Are you?
