A Botanical Tea Towel for Fall and a Fabulous Surprise!

Chinese Lantern Tea Towel squareI have a new fall-inspired tea towel for you…starring one of my favorite botanicals…Chinese lanterns! I remember being fascinated by this lovely plant as a child and my love for them has not diminished!

Chinese lanterns transfer So I was really excited to find this wonderful vintage illustration here and it just seemed natural to me to choose them for my fall tea towel design! You know me…I couldn’t resist adding a little frenchiness to the graphic, too. The plant is actually called  Physalis…or more popularly, Chinese lanterns...and in French…lanterne chinoise, amour en cage or coqueret du PĂ©rou. I have already flipped it for you to use as an iron-on transfer. I just followed the directions on the package and applied it to a vintage-y flour sack towel from Target…4 for $4.00…an easy and inexpensive way to add some fall to your kitchen!

bk Now Baby Kitty wants you to see my fabulous surprise…a sweet gift from Jackie, one of my wonderful readers…

tablescape …lovely vintage silverplate in my favorite grapey pattern! Grapes are my favorite motif...so much that I think you could sell me grapes on a stick! Does she know me or what?

Silverplate2 Just look at the detail on the handles…little clusters of grapes surrounded by leaves and even tiny tendrils…amazing! Don’t you love the patina on old silverplate? They date from 1912…one hundred years old and lovelier than ever! Thanks so much to sweet Jackie for thinking of me! I am overwhelmed by her thoughtfulness and generosity!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chinese Lantern Tea Towel Here’s a final look at the tea towel…fun and full of fall color!  And I have made a decision…I am definitely planting some Chinese lanterns next year! Have you ever tried them? I’d love to know how they did!

  4. I am in love with those Chinese lanterns, both the ones on the lovely towel and the real ones! I have never planted them, but saw some stems for sale at our local apple orchard. Would love to try them, too. And...how beautiful is that silver! A beautiful post!

  7. Debbie, be sure and tell Baby Kitty that I love the tea towel he made. Yes, he says HE is the one who is the talent, and who am I to argue with him? And your friend did a great job picking out something that is perfect for you. Great job!

    XO,

    Sheila

  8. Debbie ~ I love chinese lanterns. I was once given some by a friend. Their root system grows wild under the ground. Be careful where you plant them. They will be everywhere. Anyway, I absolutely loved them and they did quite well. They don't need full sun they can be grown in partial sun. I have moved away from that home and unfortunately, did not take any with me, but I would definitely plant them again. Love the tea towel and the flatware. Just beautiful

  10. Hi Debbie: What a nice gift and your tea towel is beautiful. I bought a potted Chinese Lantern plant at the Farmer's Market a few weeks ago. She said to be careful where you plant it because it will take over your yard. I've already got plants that do that so think I'll put it in a planter..Happy Thursday..Judy

  17. Ok...I am going to do one of your transfers. This one is darling too! You should sell these things on Etsy. I want to do the sheep transfer. What transfer paper do I need to buy...what do you use? Then do you just put it in the printer on full color or black and white (for the sheep print). Baby kitty looks pretty with the orange colors...he is a fall season color kitty for sure. Hugs.

  18. What is Jackie's number? I need a new friend like her! ha! Seriously sweet gift. I use silver flat wear at home everyday. Silverplate is so affordable, when you buy the old stuff and it goes right into the dishwasher. Love it!

  19. Hey there,
Yes, I have chinese lanterns and they do awesome. They spread each year. I usually pick them off individually and place in a clear vase or basket. They do not look great as the weather gets colder because the long tall stems fall over.
Do you have seeds? I also have Silver Dollars. Let me know, I can send you seeds.

  20. Debbie, love Chinese lanterns. Never thought about planting them. That's a great idea. I have some in a vase that I purchased at the flower market. They try wonderfully. Love the new tea towel design. And you know I love the silverplate design. Glad your thoughtful friend found some more pieces. Happy Fall...........Sarah

  25. Your tea towels are a colorful and elegant fall touch for your kitchen. The silverware is gorgeous, but not as pretty as Baby Kitty. Flossie and Freddy want to know if Baby Kitty wants a playdate with them. Lots of chase, ambush, snuggles and cat treats for all!
