Easiest...and Best...Corn on the Cob Ever!

I don’t know about you, but with the Fourth of July landing in the middle of a heat wave this year, I need to stay out of the hot kitchen while cooking for my family! Sooo…I thought I would share with you this super easy and super cool way to prepare one of my favorites…corn on the cob! And I promise…once you’ve had it this way, you will never do it any other way!

corn A trip trip to my favorite produce stand in the North Georgia mountains netted me some fabulously fresh white corn…yum! I left it in the husks so that I could prepare it my new favorite way…in the microwave! Yes…husks and all!  It’s super easy! Just put a wet paper towel in the bottom of your microwave and add the corn. I microwave two ears at a time for a total of five minutes, stopping to turn them over half way through. Here’s a chart if you want to do more, but I found that a little additional time needs to be added. When they are done, just wrap them in a kitchen towel for five minutes and then remove the husks and silks. And that’s it!

corn on the patio The husks keep the corn really fresh tasting as it cooks in its own natural moisture and the husks and silks are actually easier to remove once they have been cooked. Then just add butter and salt and pepper...yummy!

  1. What? Husks and all?? Well, I'm whining like a big old baby because I've already shucked some for dinner this evening. I will definitely try this next time, and what a great way to have corn on the cob for 1 or two when you don't want to drag out a pot.

    Did you happen to go to Jaemor Farms? If so, you were about 15 minutes from me! Hubby and I go once a week, buy our fresh veggies and have a homemade ice cream while we are there.

  4. Hey! That sounds GREAT! I have been doing my own corn in the mic for a couple of years but have NEVER done it with the husks on- I am soooo going to try this for the 4th. We have a group coming. So, if I prepare it early how do I keep it warm while the other ears are cooking? If I do two at a time and need 24 that is about an hour of microwave time. Have you ever done that many ahead? xo Diana

  5. Hi Diana! No, I have never done that many ahead. There's a chart for more on the post that goes up to six at a time for 8 to 9 minutes, but I would still add a couple of minutes for that. Wonder if you wrapped them in aluminum foil and put them in a 200 degree oven would work to keep them warm? So glad you like the idea! Happy 4th...hugs...Debbie

  11. Debbie, I got an e-mail about this a month ago and I've done my fresh corn on the cob this way twice so far. It works wonderful. The video on YouTube said to cook each ear for 4 minutes, i.e., 2 ears = 8 min, 4 ears = 12 mins and so on. I have found the time is perfect. I don't use the damp paper towel or wrap the ears in a dish towel. After removing from the microwave I cut both ends off of the ears and the cob slid right out with out a single silk thread left.

  17. I've heard it tastes wonderful cooked this way, but haven't tried it yet. It is now on my "to do" list. I love some corn on the cob!

  20. I saw on Pinterest (and have tried it a couple times) that you can also do it in a 350 degree oven with the silks and husks. Takes about 30 - 40 minutes - might work if you have several to do and have a bit more time. The silks/husks come off like a charm. I love your blog, thanks for the weekly inspiration.

  35. I don't ever shuck our corn. I soak it in a deep pan of water, drain and then throw it right on the grill. It's delicious! I've never tried it in the microwave, I may have to do that. Your pictures are gorgeous :-)

  36. I fix my corn in the microwave, but I cut the stalk end off just to the kernels, then when it's done, grab the silks end and squeeze gently and the ear slides out, sans silks!! Try wrapping them in a bath towel BEFORE shucking them to stay hot if you have more to cook.
