No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël Pillow

Here’s my latest project…my Ballard inspired Joyeux Noël pillow! I’m happy to get this one in under the wire this year because it was on my to do list for this Christmas!

Ballard Pillow And here is my inspiration from Ballard Designs! I fell in love immediately, but it was $69 (on sale right now for $49) and that’s just out of my price range! Sooo…I knew I had to copy it…with one exception…I wanted red and white French ticking instead of black. I love the look, but it just doesn’t say Christmas to me!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël Pillow Here is what you will need:
  • Purchased plain pillow cover (mine came from Hobby Lobby)
  • Pillow insert (Mine was down and came from Goodwill for $3.00.)
  • Scraps of Christmas-y fabric
  • Ribbon for the bow
  • Iron-on transfer paper (I use Avery brand for light fabrics.)
  • Hot glue gun
Here’s what you will do:
  1. Print the text (included for you in the next photo) on iron-on transfer paper. Apply it to the bottom portion of the front of your purchased pillow cover according to directions on the package.
  2. Draw a triangle for the tree and then cut it into six segments as a pattern, using scraps from three different fabrics. Pin the fabric in place on the pillow. My tree is a little bigger than theirs since theirs seemed small to me.
  3. Hot-glue the fabric down using small dots of glue in several places.
  4. Tie knots on either end of a length of twine and place on top of the fabric pieces, hot-gluing in place.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël PillowHere’s the graphic for the wording. It must be printed as is…backwards…on the iron-on transfer paper. It will be right side up once it is in place. I printed it in 8x10 format with Photoscape.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël Pillow Finally, I added a little bow on top! Now just pop in your pillow form and you are finished! Total money spent…none…since I already had everything I needed ! Sooo…it was free…woo hoo!…instead of their $49 on sale! Love it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël PillowOf course, my handsome co-host had to check it out. Hmmm…I see that he is double-checking my spelling and accent marks! No worries, Baby Kitty, it’s correct! :-)

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Ballard Inspired Joyeux Noël Pillow And there you have it…my Ballard inspired Joyeux Noël pillow! Whew! Time is flying by and I still have a few more projects to squeeze in. Will I make it? Time will tell!

  2. The pillow looks great. Isn't it so satisfying to know you can have what you like by doing your own copy?

  3. Now THIS I'm going to make! Love it! Thank you so much for figuring it all out and even printing up the letters for us! We aren't having our family Christmas until Jan.21 (I know) so I have plenty of time.

  16. Very cute, and I agree, the red ticking says Christmas more than the black. I'm feeling so lazy compared to all these last minute projects everyone else seems to be doing! :)

  23. Another fun and adorable pillow, you should go into business and sell these, I am sure you would have buyers. Maybe Etsy shop? Kathysue

  24. Beautifully done, Debbie! I actually came over to see your version of the PB poinsettia pillow from Linda's blog, but I'm glad I saw this one. I have some fabric scraps that would work well for the tree in this design and, while I might not get to it for this season, I'm definitely going to do it so its ready for next year!

  35. Thanks so much for this tutorial. Believe it or not, I actually had this pillow on order from Ballard Designs when it went on sale week before last. At first, it was on backorder, then I received an email from them saying it was no longer available to my disappointment. Now, I'll be able to make my own!!!
