Shopping for Fall Inspiration...and...An Easy Fall Centerpiece

001I needed a little fall inspiration, so my friend Linda at Nina’s Nest and I headed to our favorite flea/antique shop…the Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta, Georgia…to see what we could find! And we found plenty! I love the wreath that greets you when you enter!

002 This display is gorgeous! Are you noticing a trend in fall colors? Softer greens and creams seem to be showing up frequently this year! Love it!

005 Here’s another wreath…but used as a centerpiece! Love the rustic jar in the middle!

006 We came back a week later and some faux berries and a crow for a Halloween look had been added. I just love crows! I think it stems from reading Johnny Crow’s Garden as a child.

012 Here’s another wreath used as a centerpiece with more of the softer greens and creams. The candle in the middle was a Pottery Barn cinnamon candle for $7 so Linda snatched it up. What a bargain!

013 Hmmm…here’s a thought…an antique finish on a pumpkin! I’m filing this one away!

014 I love this big candy corn…my grandson’s favorite! But you would have to buy a lot of them for it to look good. Now…how to recreate that? Hmmm…

010It’s hard to miss this old wiring spool dressed up as a Jack-o’-lantern! And here are a few demi-johns and a Santos doll, too, for good measure!

004 However, it was not only fall decor that caught my eye! I love this frenchy bust…but she’s out of my price range!

010 I have been wanting a set of bone dishes and these are especially pretty. Each one is different! Lovely!

006 Now here’s a great combination…a frenchy grain sack pillow with brown and white ticking! Love it!

011 You know I love this...not only a fabulous hutch, but it’s filled with blue and white pieces! Here, I have to admit, though, that I think my $6 Goodwill double happiness jars are a better deal!

019 And…I seem to see them everywhere now…my new love…Trumeau mirrors! They originated in France (of course!) in the 18th century and have a carving or painting in the frame above the rectangular shaped mirror. This one has some nice details!

008 Here’s one with an old painting…gotta love the sheep!

001And here’s one with a fabulous carving! I want one! They are just sooo expensive!

003 And here’s a sweet find that brought back some wonderful childhood memories. My sister and I had a child-size version of this antique bench when we were little. You lay the baby (or baby doll in our case) on the section behind the railing and then sit on the other section and rock! Ours even played music! This is the first real one I have ever seen!
005So what came home with me?  Miss Isabella is afraid that it is the scary giant Jack-o’-lantern! But, no…it’s something I’ll show you later and…

pagethis idea! First, I made my own cinnamon stick candle by putting a rubber band around a candle, adding cinnamon sticks and finishing with twine. Did you know that you can buy 12 ounce bags of cinnamon sticks in the Hispanic spices section at Publix for only $3.39? What a deal! I placed the candle on a wicker charger, added whole almonds (on sale half price after Christmas last year) and finished with a fall wreath from Goodwill…only $4.00!

049 And…taa daa! I like my version because I don’t think it screams fall and the colors go with my Provençal decor.

038 And…I had enough cinnamon sticks to make another candle…and I still have enough left for two more! That’s only about 85 cents per candle!

053 Sooo…using things I already had on hand and spending under $5.00 for the wreath and cinnamon sticks, I have a new fall centerpiece! Not bad, huh? And I got to spend the afternoon shopping in my favorite place with a friend...a very nice day!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my fall decor!  Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

  6. Wow, Debbie, your pics are great at the Queen. How did you ever think of looking in the Hispanic food section for cinnamon sticks?! I would have looked with regular spices and they are too expensive there. I'm going to look for those at Publix - what a deal. Oh, everything looks wonderful! Linda
