Vintage Silver with Provençal Lemons...and Nothing Over $5.00!

029 Once again, my Goodwill hunting trophies seem to have a theme! This time, it’s lots of wonderful vintage silver plus some sunny oh-so-sunny provençal lemons! Don’t they make a pretty little dessert tablescape?

050 However, it all started from some very anything-but-pretty beginnings! I was GW hunting with my thrifting buddy, Linda at Nina’s Nest when I came upon this mass of…what? Metal cups? I’m picturing cowboys drinking coffee out of tin cups around the camp fire! lol But the price…$4.54 for twelve…intrigued me, so I took a closer look...

052 …and found a dozen silverplate punch cups! Woo hoo!

002 Several episodes of House Hunters, some Wright's Silver Creme and plenty of elbow grease later and…voilà! Aren’t they lovely? I searched the place over but there was no punch bowl. It had either already gone home with someone or was never given away. :-(

001 But this gave our co-host Baby Kitty an idea! So we pulled together some recent Goodwill finds…

005 …such as this vintage coffee carafe and warmer…only $3.93! Can you believe it? That’s the best price I have ever seen on one of these!

006 …and these fabulous faux lemons at eight for only $3.93! And I couldn’t leave without that little footed silver tray for just $2.00 on senior day! Woot woot!

010 I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to pass up anything with feet…so elegant!

011 And from the same Goodwill hunting trip on senior day…this silverplate tray edged with grapes…my favorite motif…for only $5.00! There were two of them and I got them both. My friend Linda tells me I seem to have a thing about buying in pairs and I’m beginning to think she’s right.

035 Next, I pulled out these wonderful French dessert plates that I found at TJ Maxx about 10 years ago..still some of my favorites! They were made in Limoges, France…famous for its china. Can you see what’s represented on the plates?

page It’s a lemon…citron…and as it is being peeled, the word citron is getting shorter until all that is left is the seeds…pépins! Clever, huh?

018 Now here is where Baby Kitty’s inspiration came in. No punch bowl? No problem! Who says a coffee carafe has to serve hot coffee? How about using it without the warming stand as a pretty pitcher? Love it! And I now have two of them…note the urge to buy pairs…so I can use one for coffee and one for punch with my new silverplate cups!

025 I simply added some Battenberg lace napkins and a few dessert forks from my mom’s Towle Silver Flutes flatware…

029 …and there you have it…a little dessert tablescape with vintage silver and lemons! And nothing cost over $5.00! Love it!
Cheryl at Jojo's Joys says she thinks I am celebrating the Fête du Citron (Lemon Festival) in Menton, France...which is going on right now! Hmmm...I think she might be right!

  1. You scored big on this trip! When you mentioned "cowboys" drinking from these cups, it made me wonder. Do the handles get hot when you drink hot stuff out of them? I've had that problem with some metals conducting the heat right into the handle. Just curious, I've never tried silver before, to drink from. Great post, thanks for sharing. Sandi

  30. Debbie, I need a GW likes yours! You do find the best treasures. This all looks fabulous polished and sparkling on your tabletop. Love the idea of the lemon aide server. The set of plates is so clever. I'm sending this over to my husband to share with his French teacher. I'm sharing Goodwill Hunting finds of a different sort ~ not my typical French faience, but rather a bit of Mary Engelbreit. Rare that I find anything great, but I'd say I scored with these. ;-)

  72. I still have the silver carafe with stand that we received as a wedding gift. I think that it was a common gift for brides for many many years. I rarely use the carafe, but I often use the stand as a lift for a centerpiece of a tray. I could see it turn your lovely silver tray into a wonderful cake pedestal. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
