My Winter Porch...and...Preparing for Snow!

IMG_5090 I am so excited to show you my new winter wreath…a fabulous Goodwill find for only…$5.00! Woo hoo! Can you believe someone gave this beauty away? All the better for me!

page It is chock full of wonderful fruit and berries…love that apple slice!

IMG_5093 All I had to do was add a burlap ribbon!

IMG_5100 And, of course, I had to redo my lanterns to match! I love them! I have been able to keep them on my porch year ‘round by simply changing what I put inside of them! This time, it’s very simple…pinecones and candles tied with raffia…

IMG_5101 …sitting on a bed of whole almonds…on sale at Publix for $2.69 for two pounds!...topped with a jaunty burlap scarf!

IMG_5122 Here is a look at the completed porch. I like the simple winter starkness…but then I am a winter person.

IMG_5118 I love the way everything is so structural…almost architectural…this time of year! The air is so crisp and clean and the sky is so very blue and clear…

IMG_5112 …and the trees can now show us the secrets they have been keeping! But I can’t linger outside too long! A big winter storm is heading our way!

page1 We are expecting five inches of snow followed by sleet and ice! Yikes! Like every good Southerner, I have to prepare. I have already been to the grocery store and bought my obligatory bread and milk…and I don’t even like milk! lol I have a stash of new flashlights and plenty of firewood in case we lose power. And my favorite thing…some fun catalogs to check out and my new guide to Paris to read…I’m planning a trip this summer with my 10 year old grandson!

IMG_3785 Sooo…bring on the snow! We are ready! All we have to do now is wait!

page Update! We actually had 6 or 7 inches! Woo hoo! Sooo…please allow me to show you my porch again…this time complete with snow! Now that’s what I call a winter porch!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my porch!  Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

  3. Your porch is so pretty and your lanterns are wonderful. I love your new wreath, what a fabulous find. It is so pretty with all the fruit. Fabulous. Your home looks so warm and inviting. I hope you don't have too bad of weather. A slight dusting of snow is pretty, but a bunch and then ice is not a good thing. Stay in and stay warm. Hugs, Marty

  4. I LOVE your wreath too!!! What a Fantastic find. How do you EVER keep real nuts outside without having animals cart your beautiful lamps off into the woods??? I could NEVER do that... Good luck with your snow, I just POSTED our storm, we got about 20inches of the white stuff...
Kitty looks excited for snow and ready too!Hugs to you and keep warm... Donna

  10. I love that wreath, but what really makes it is your beautiful bow, that is spectacular. I was so lucky to have someone suggest Rick Steves before I went to Paris and I'm so glad I did, he is awesome. One of my favorite things he recommended was Angelinas restaraunt for her Hot Chocolate....OMG moment and you can't leave without going to Laudree for lunch & macaroons and you must bring those back as gifts, you will be loved forever!

  11. Gorgeous wreath...5 inches of snow? We haven't had any here in east/central Kansas, which is unusual for this time of year...but we sure have had winds.

  12. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your wreath and the way you have decorated your lanterns.

I'm from NE GA, and am dreading the bad weather coming in. I don't handle the cold like I did at one time :)

  13. Great find on the wreath - what a buy! Love the overall look of the porch..wonderful use of the almonds.
Good Luck with the storm coming..I am so NOT a winter person, mainly due to the cold..but I do admit the sky is spectacular in winter!

  14. Woot! Woot! Look at that neat wreath, and the price! Oh, Debbie, you stole it! YEA!

I like your porch look. Very snazzy, and I can't believe you're getting snow. YIKES! I can't wait to hear all about the trip to France with your DGS. I think it is fabulous that you're taking him there. He will never forget this tirp with you as long as he lives. Neat!

Love to my friend Baby Kitty and all of the other kitties at Chez Plate Addict and to the Plate Addict herself.

Oh, and BTW, I am going to post a little picture of my fairy door either later today or tomorrow and an nod to YOU!.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  17. You and Marty have the best luck at GW. The wreath is really pretty. I haven't taken my Christmas one down but I hate to have a bare door left.
I laughed about the milk. You'll have to have a white sauce or a cheese sauce for something...

Don't they melt? Hope you just have some pretty snow and it doesn't get too bad there. Stay inside and snuggle with the staff! Have fun planning your trip, what an amazing thing to look forward to. Your porch looks so inviting. . .gorgeous thrifty find wreath! The addition of your burlap ribbon made it so classic!

Six to twelve inches of snow predicted here. . .if so, I'll have a cute Metamorphosis Monday to share!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  46. Debbie, you are too funny. I'm not sure GW is even open. They might be tomorrow though. The wind is blowing so hard now it is blowing the ice off the branches and it is hitting our windows. Bailey is barking every time she hears it hit the windows. My husband went to work today for a while and is not sure if they will open tomorrow or not. This wind is really getting strong. It is howling out there now. Stay warm.

  56. Hi there,
Your blog is beautiful and so is your porch. You've given me a great idea for me to transorm my own porch this weekend.

And I'm so happy to see that you are a winter person, like me. I don't know why so many people complain about winter blues and things being dead. Gardens are just resting!
