It’s cold here in Georgia…18 degrees this morning…so we had a fire going while we took down the Christmas decorations. At last…things are back the way they were at the Plate Addict household! Well…except for one HUGE change…
The world’s oldest TV has left the building! lol Finally! I have been keeping a dirty little secret. My TV is 27 years old! Hey..it works…or worked…until a few weeks ago. My son-in-law and his dad were kind enough to take it away to console TV heaven over the weekend. It has been replaced by…
…the world’s smallest TV! lol Hey…if I am going to keep the next one for 27 years, I have to do my research! I have already bought it a nice, new stand so it will have a place to sit when it gets here!
One decoration didn’t leave. Remember the candle I made using my $2.00 silverplate forks from Goodwill?
Well, I love it so much that I frenchified it with a Provençal ribbon and it gets to stay! It greets you when you enter my home.
So, with all of the work done, I think I will sit by the fire with Isabella and enjoy a cappuccino!
There is nothing that says cozy like a cat in front of a fire! Don’t you think so? Hmmm...this looks like a photo op to me! Work it, Isabella!
Hey! Enough already! I’m trying to take a nap here!! Humph!
Sometimes it’s best to let sleeping cats lie!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Please head on over to Mary’s at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday to see one of her beautiful mosaics and to find a list of this week’s participants. You will be treated to some wonderful photos from some very talented people!
Next, be sure to visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday where you can get a peek at her gorgeous home and see what sorts of changes she is making, as well as find out who else is playing along! I can’t wait to see what everyone has going on for the New Year!
I’m also joining Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal for Silver Sunday! It’s a new blog party and what a great idea! It will be fun to see the wonderful ideas our fellow bloggers have for using Grandma’s old silver in some new ways!
See you next time! A la prochaine!
I love the way you have your mantle decorated Debbie, it looks so gorgeous! You always have such inspiring ideas and CUTE CAT MOSAICS TOO! Hugs, Cindy
ReplyDeleteRest peacefully TV!
ReplyDeleteI love your candle with the forks, it was a good idea to just replace the ribbon. Okay, okay, now I need to get up and finish taking my decorations down. We really enjoyed them but it is SO much work packing them up. I'm ready to have an uncluttered house back though. Happy Sunday!
~Michelle
Oh Debbie, I so love your home and your fireplace mantel is decorated to beautifully. I love it. Your new TV stand is just gorgeous, I can't wait to see what you decide to buy. Ours is old too and weighs a ton, but like you it still works and fits the entertainment center perfectly, so it is staying. I really, really love the pretty Provencal ribbon you used on the fork candle. It is must beautiful. I have a hard time finding great ribbon. Hope you and Isabella have a warm and restful day. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteGood morning my friend....brrrr...its cold here, too. The wind chill is aweful. But, I'm sure our bloggy friends way up north would have one word for both of us in regards to our "cold" weather...."wimps." :-D
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, your home is a haven of comfort no matter how its decorated. But, I wanted to say I just noticed the three plates on your mantel. Have they always been there? LOVE IT!!! Your frenchy candle is wonderful. And Miss Isabella is quite photogenic and should be on the cover of Cat Fancy. Hope you are enjoying your warm day inside, my friend. Hugs, Barb
Hi, Debbie. Your living room looks so inviting. I'd love to be sitting in front of that fire with a cappuccion. Love what you did on the mantel. I wish I could hang some plates on the front of mine as you have done, but we have a metal grate there . I'm going to experiement and see what might work though. I did use your idea and hang a wreath there. Maybe I'll find one that I can keep up for the winter.
ReplyDeleteCongratualtaions on a new TV. Enjoy!
Stay warm and enjoy your beautiful home....Sarah
LOL, at your TV's :) We had issues, too, but only a little research, DH wasn't letting the day go by without a new one! he's a happy camper this New Year's!
ReplyDeleteYour mantle looks beautiful! Nice to relax with Isabella and a cappuccino on such a freezing cold day! Enjoy! Stay warm!
Happy New Year!
Debbie, I would love to curl up next to that wonderful fire. Your living room is so beautiful! I had the same question as Barb, were those plates always on the front of the mantle? I love it! Your TV story cracks me up, but I'm with you, if it works, it works. I love the new TV stand. And I REALLY love that you are keeping the "fork" candle. Isn't it funny how sometimes the smallest decor items can be our favorite? Hope you have a wonderful first week of the New Year. Hugs, Kat
ReplyDeleteYour fire looks so inviting, Debbie. I can't believe it got that cold down in Georgia...then again, the weather doesn't surprise me anymore. And a TV lasting 27 years...that DOES surprise me!! I'm lucky we aren't getting one every 6 years. Is there such a thing as a TV repairman anymore??
ReplyDeleteI love the fork candle holder. I must have missed the post. It is darling. I love it with the frenchie ribbon!! I like the mosaic of Isabelle, too! Stay warm!! ;-)
xoxo
Jane
Your room and fire look so inviting Debbie and true there is nothing more cosy than a cat in front of the fire. I love it and your beautiful collage.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year
Debbie-Isn't it nice to have our houses back to normal? I love the decorations, but everything just feels fresh again when they are gone. You sound like me with televisions! I watched a very small, very old BLACK and WHITE tv in my kitchen until it died--drove the rest of the family crazy and I never even noticed :) Every time visit your blog, I am in love with the Monet header. I may have to have one for my house. Love Monet; love blue, so I think it is perfect for me! You and Isabella stay warm and cuddle up in front of that beautiful fire--ps. I just knew you'd keep that candle--perfect way to do it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in the fun! You GW forks are a great idea...
ReplyDeleteSee you next week
{{gypsy hugs}}
Beth
Debbie, your home is just beautiful! I love the way you have your mantel dolled up with plates.
ReplyDeleteWe just got a big new TV a couple of weeks ago. I was very careful picking out the furniture hoping to reduce the effect of large equipment. It worked! I actually like it more than I thought.
My condolences on the tv death...I think...LOL! We're going to get a new one soon, too. How fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the forks around the candles! :)
Well that is a good lifespan for a TV, gee.. Love your mosaic. Looks so warm and comfy there by the fire.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I love the TV story. LOL!Shhhhhhhh.... I have one that is 34years old that my mother gave me when I moved to Florida! An old Sony Trinitron, but I have only used it every now and then in recent years. I can't bear to part with it. ;-) Do you remember Gayfers? That's where we bought it! LOL! I don't even think it exists anymore, and it was a department store which I typically associated with clothes and china and lamps and things. But they had this one on sale, and she bought it for me!
ReplyDeleteI love your house. Everything looks so cute, and I like the Frenchified ribbon your cute candle. It is absolutely charming, and so is Isabella in front of the cozy fire. It's cold here, too, and I am in flannels in Florida! Help... I hate it! ;-)
XO,
Sheila
Burr! It sure is nippy ovefr on my end of town but I had no idea it was in the teens this AM. If I knew this I would not have gone to the High today for the free art day. Now from the biggest TV to the smallest made me laugh. It seems our TVs get bigger and thinner each year. It must be a guy thing because I would also keep the TV forever as long as it worked. Now if I can only figure out the cable box and the DVD player etc just maybe I could watch a movie on my own:) Thanks for the notice about the silver blog on Sunday as I will check that out too.
ReplyDeleteJoyce
well Deb.. guess I missed the first fork/candle post (how'd that happen!?)... but had to come by and see what silver you were posting today... now I'm off the the kitchen to create a vintage silver spoon candle... what a wonderful idea... so glad you had it so I could steal it!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Dixie
I'd say you got your money's worth out of the old tv. I'm still waiting for my 38 year sewing machine to bite the dust so I can get a new one. I've been waiting now for over 20 years. I think its going to outlive me. Isabella has the right idea. Rosie
ReplyDeleteLove your silverware candle idea.Definately will try that one.
ReplyDeleteYour cat reminds me so much of mine. When the fireplace is blazing, Chloe is laying stretched out in front of it so sweet and warm. She is 11 and the heat must feel wonderful on her bones.
Happy New Year.
Love it, Debbie. B & I are the king and queen of "if it works, keep it". Can't wait to see what your research yields on the tv....who knows, maybe we'll replace our "hand-me-down"! Love what you did with the GW silver - charming! à demain....Linda
ReplyDeleteYep! We are in the deep freeze and will be for a while! Love your cat pictures. I think Isabella is very blessed to have the life she does. And I can NOT believe you have been watching TV on that small screen. Girl, get you at least a 37" flat screen and mount it on the wall. You won't believe; it is just like being in a theater. Blessings this new year!
ReplyDeleteSharon
that fire looks great...your cat is quite the little star...love the candle with forks...you can just change the ribbon to meet the season....your mantel is beautiful
ReplyDeleteHi !Debbie,
ReplyDeleteThe R.I.P's t.v will be better now (maybe it'll join its disappeared old relatives?lol!).
Maybe a taller and thinner one will replace it(it's cruel!lol!).
Mine is "teenage"one(3year's old)provocative by its size :150 cm large but very thin (a kateMoss one)
So comfortable for the eyes especially for watching documentaries.
Your home seems very cosy and beautiful!
You can prove it by the cat :no cat around=no cosizess;a lot of cats=cosiness+++
I've read something that said "A home without a cat is just a house".SO true!
By the way ,we(me and the two cats:Opium and Satheene)wish you a very sweet and happy year!
Lisa!
A bientôt!
Brrrrrrr - we're freezing too! Love your cozy fireplace - looks like the perfect place to read a book -- isn't it wonderful to get things back in order? I'm mostly there--- I think the cold is slowing me down.
ReplyDeleteI am just in love with Isabella!!!!
ReplyDeletem ^..^
I love the mosaic. My cat never would lay in front of the fireplace even though it had a glass front. Silly cat. This is how they are supposed to do it. Soak up the heat.
ReplyDeleteDo you hold a record on the oldest TV? I just think that is great. They must have made that one the right way. Nothing last long nowadays.
ReplyDeleteI love your fireplace and wish it was in front of me right now. Your kittie does look nice and cozy sitting in front of the fire. Wonderful mosaic and photos.
Hi Debbie!
ReplyDeletenow that is one happy cat! LOL
Love the plates on your fireplace. Thaey look great!
Beautiful cottage Debbie! Warm and inviting! Lovely mosaics too :)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks beautiful. I especially love your cali. We had one for a number of years. She's sorely missed.
ReplyDeleteLove the forks around the candle! You will enjoy a new TV when you pick one out! Yes it was cold today in Georgia!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! I love the TV story.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mosaic, too!
Hapy New Year Debbie, Your kitty by the fireside mosaic is so cute, your candle with ribbon and forks (french style) is perfect and I am giggling about your tv (ours was very old, we had to give it away when we moved across the pond). Your home is beautiful. Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI love your Frenchified candle. :) I am dying over that TV!!! It makes sense though...b/c my Nannie and Poppie had a new one like that when I was a little girl. ;)
ReplyDeleteGosh, I wanna be your cat! Lucky feline!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute post. LOL! I love the candle with forks, very pretty and I don't blame you for keeping it....Christine
ReplyDeleteThe weather may be "frightful," but your hearth is beautiful and cozy. Your cat has the best spot. Love your cutlery candles--genius!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
I love that forked candle idea...very clever. Your TV story made me laugh. My husband had been waiting so long that he had done his research and came home with his new toy the same day ours blew up.
ReplyDeleteHI DEBBIE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.....I HAD TO LAUGH WHEN I SAW THE T.V....I THOUGHT WE WERE THE ONLY ONE'S LEFT IN GEORGIA THAT HAD ONE OF THOSE OLD CONSOLE SETS....WE TRIED TO GET RID OF THAT THING FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS WHEN A FEW MONTHS AGO WE ACTUALLY LOADED IT UP ON OUR TRAILER AND CARTED IT OFF TO THE GOODWILL....THEY ACTUALLY TOOK IT!! AND IT STILL WORKED....I LOVE THE WORDS YOU MAKE UP....FRENCHIFIED...YOU DO IT SO WELL...SUE.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Debbie! It's nice to see you kept the fork candle. I loved it and I love the new way you are displaying it.
ReplyDeleteIsabella looks so warm and cozy and happy and well fed. In my next life I want to come back as one of your cats...lol.
Happy New Year Debbie dear!cheers.
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best.
Great place. Awesome decor andg reat idea:).
Regards.
Regina
HI you cute thing!
ReplyDeleteI laughed very hard when i saw your TV going to TV heaven -- yah... they were great ones werent they?
Personally -- buy one that is a good deal -- i have a friend who works in a assembly line for one of the TV/ Computer companies and he said they make them inexpensive these days made to last about 5 years -- because that way you can keep up with technology faster.
LOL guess it makes sense with everything changing so fast these days.
Love the forks too :)
Stop by if you get a chance--
TTFN~~Claudia ♥ ♥
Your living room is beautiful with the fireplace lit...but my favorite is still Isabella, she is just gorgeous. We also have a calico, named Picasso...Picker for short. Cute idea to wrap the candle in silver!
ReplyDeleteHow clever you are with that candle! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteyour cat looks to be enjoying that fir immensely.
ReplyDeleteLove the candle & fork with ribbon... I am always looking for new ways to add a special touch... I am sure you will enjoy the space your new TV allows... and WHAT a beautiful CAT! TFS on SS
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here too, UGH!!! Sorry about your tv, but you will love a new one w/ the HD & all. Since you love blue & white dishes, was wondering if by chance you had been in Cracker Barrel since Christmas? They have a blue and white collection for spring, including a tassel and rooster, which are all too cute. They also have some "frenchy" looking things in their rooster collection. Check it out, if you get a chance. Now, I'm off to tell Rose! ;O)
ReplyDeleteLove your mantle Debbie...and how clever the candle is with the forks...Now how many cats do you have girl...I hope for many blessings to you this coming year my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteOh my, you are just too funny with your 27 year old tv! I'm still giggling! Loved the candle - wonderfully creative idea & Isabella is just to gorgeous for words! ☺♥☺
ReplyDeleteCute post, Debbie. Love, Love, Love the kitty mosaic in front of the fire!
ReplyDeleteD
Love your mosaic :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh!...great story...made me wonder what I have around thats still working after 27 years. Home looks lovely. Happy New Year to you...hugs from across the pond Teresa xx
ReplyDeleteHello: It looks so cozy there. We have a TV that is a few years old too but it still works. Not ready to put it in the landfil just yet. Those nice shiny flat screens sure look interesting in the store. Maybe soon. Valerie
ReplyDeleteROFLMM(use)P(atootie)O
ReplyDeleteLOL LOL LOL
Oh wait a sec...our tv is old too!
SOB SOB SOB....
LOL LOL LOL
You are too funny! We have an old TV too. Eventually once it stops working we will get one of those flat screen things. As for Isabella, she is beautiful (I think Kramer might think so too:).
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim
Funny, darling cat.....love your sidebar photo with the cat wearing a New Year greeting!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your silver fork candle and think I need one for myself.
I too have several older TVs that will remain until they go to old TV heaven.
Happy New Year.
Hi Deb, I am so glad the candle made the cut. I think that is a darling idea and so YOU! You are smart to research before buying. Good luck, It is all a bit overwhelming to me. Last year I learned more about TVs than I ever wanted to know but trust me it only comprehended until we bought one and then it went right out of the old brain,no need for useless information, I am running out of space in the memory dept. anyhow. Hugs Kathysue
ReplyDeleteDebbie. Love your mantle! Lucky kitties to have such a nice cozy place It's so cold, but thoughts of only 10 days till the grand opening of the new GW should keep us warm!! See ya' there.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fork candle. I might just have to "borrow" this idea for my kitchen. I have an island that always ends up a little naked. I think a fork candle and a plate (which I love, too) stand would look good there!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Debbie you are such a cutie pie! 27 years old? That may just be a record huh? Your new little tv is precious and your mantel looks amazing! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIsabella is truly a cat model in disguise! ~Beautiful girl!
Imagine my surprise when I heard my name in this song you have playing. He!
I darned near choked when I read how old your television was. Mine was 15 and I thought that was terrible. Like yours it just kept working and working...then suddenly out it went. But...unlike you, I rushed out and bought a BIG one...well, ok, it's
ReplyDelete42".
Your fireplace mantel is lovely...what a cozy and pretty home you have.
(I want a cat but don't say anything! I don't think I will ever have one again! Husband says NO!) He didn't say much about the dog..but he thought a lot. Mele and I came as a package...so.. :)
I had one that looked a lot like "Kitty." I miss him...a lot sometimes.
Happy New Year! :)
Mona

Love your blog - I think I'll cuttle up on that couch right over there near the fire!!!!! Hope your kitty doesn't mind! Enjoyed your photos - interesting how long your TV held out.

ReplyDeleteYour mantle looks beautiful! Kisses to Isabella!

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to show you what my daughter gave me for Christmas in an upcoming post! Hint...she brought it back from Paris! I'm thrilled!
Donna
Hi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI just got a kick out of your note with the City coming to a halt with an inch of snow! We are getting 3-5 more this morning and none of the schools are even delayed! But, I have to say we have snowplows running all the time and lot's of sand and salt. The roads still suck! Have a great Snow Day! Cindy
Good Day ms Debbie...popping in to see if you were on the TT event... :)I have run out of dishes..so I am just a window shopper today..LOL

Happy New Year, Debbie and everyone else. I love this website and the blogs. Debbie, I hope we can see each other again sometime, as I still live near Shamrock.
ReplyDeleteHasn't it just been crazy cold! I like the Frenchified candle. I'm surprised your TV still worked. Ours is about 4 years old and started getting strange horizontal lines this week. So I'm sure that means something bad LOL!
ReplyDeleteManuela
Dear Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI happened to stumble upon your beautiful website today and absolutely LOVE it! Oh how I would love to be sitting in your cozy living room right now. Thank you for sharing your life!
Marlene
Debbie, this does look so cozy, and Isabella seems to think so too. Love the provencial ribbon on your "fork" candle. You are so smart! laurie
ReplyDeleteOh girl...I have a dirtier secret. One of our TV's is newer than your old one, but much uglier. I told "husband" months ago that it has to go. He keeps saying it has a great picture and that he doesn't want to get rid of a TV that keeps working. Good Lord, the thing is horrible looking.
ReplyDelete
