Outdoor Wednesday...or...The Bird Feeder Mystery

It's time for Outdoor Wednesday with our gracious hostess, Susan at A Southern Daydreamer! Be sure to visit her beautiful blog to see what everyone is doing to take advantage of our wonderful weather!

I would like your help in solving a mystery! My bird feeder stays empty! I fill it up every day, but by the next day, it's all gone! I cannot figure out what is going on!

It can't be the robin. She's busy with her nest. She certainly did fuss at me when I took this picture! She eats insects, anyway.

It can't be the bluebirds, either. They are also busy nesting. These eggs haven't even hatched!

It's not this house finch! He's just a baby and his mom is feeding him. I think he'll be flying away any time now because he sure is big!

It can't be the squirrels because I don't have any. My trees are too short. This one lives in Asheville, North Carolina, and I don't think he followed me home!

Ohhhhhh!

Thanks for dropping by! Please head on over to Susan's to see who else is participating! I'll see you next time! A la prochaine!

  3. Wow, I had no idea that the deer would eat the food out of the bird feeder. How interesting. All of your little birds are so cute and the little blue bird eggs, we never see those here. Great post. I voted again today, and I hope everyone does. You are the best. Hugs, Marty

  8. Oh, Debbie!! Each of these photos are precious! You certainly have a lot of critters around your house!!

  10. I love your post! We have deer all over our property. Last week while we were gone they knocked over our bird bath and broke it into fifty pieces. I guess they are liitle birdie "wanta-bes". Thanks for sharing.

  12. Debbie, You must have the relatives of the deer that live by us! With the woods across the street they prefer the "salad bar" in my flower garden! I saw one walking through this morning!

I dont know how much extra time I will have in Atlanta as we are helping my daughter while she has her wisdom teeth out. Taking care of a busy 18-month old will be a handful! Perhaps we should exchange numbers...email me if you would like to do that!!
Good luck with all your new baby birds!!

  15. Did you at least get a tip for the great service you provide each day?

The bird/nest/egg photos are wonderful. I've been trying to get shots like that around my garden but no one is cooperating. Might be the big yellow barking dog that keeps dropping a soccer ball at my feet as I try to take photos!LOL!
I'm so glad I finally got to see eggs in a nest.

  16. My mother used to put out a salt lick and a bale of hay for the deer. Their yard backed up against the woods. Every evening they would be 2 to 5 deer.

Once I got a bear drinking out of my birdbath, then she stood up on her hind legs and ate from the bird feeder.

Buy the bully birds are the ones who clean out my bird feeders now.

  18. Hi Debbie,
That looks like my yard, only they have no fear! I have to go out and stomp my feet and shoe them away before they eat all my new plants. This is a cute post, love the birdie pics and eggs. Cindy

  19. I was positive that you were going to say a squirrel - ours are masters of getting into all the "squirrel proof" feeders. Never would have guessed a deer! Love all your yard birdies!

  20. I think EVERYONE got a Target bird except me. They were all gone. :-(

We got a hard rain this evening and when it stopped a deer walked out into the back yard. I didn't have my camera out.

  21. I love that shot of the deer! They come and eat out of mom's feeders almost every day. That squirrel sure is cute, are you sure he didn't hitch a ride? And you have such pretty birds! Great post Debbie. I voted again this morning and hope everyone votes every day! Hugs, Kat

  22. I was certain it was a wily squirrel that was the bird food thief!! That is one sneaky Bambi!! I so loved your bird photos! We have a robin's nest again this summer--right above where one was last year. I found part of a blue shell on the ground beneath the nest last week and the parents have been busy since then feeding their young one! I haven't seen any little bird heads sticking up, yet. The parents won't let us get close!

    Have a great Wednesday!! Dana

  25. So if I buy bird food for the deer they will leave my roses and lilies alone...???
I don't like them..I had Lyme disease ( bitten by a deer tic...tiny as a poopy seed) and I was really sick...10 weeks..
Today I worked outside all day. When I showered I picked a tic off my knee.
They are beautiful animals, but me no like! :(

  32. Oh those sneaky deer! They are eating all of my hostas and yesterday the leaves on my beautiful hydrangeas were all gone. They are driving me nuts this year! Debbie, I am doing a post on wonderful flea market/garage sale finds soon and wondered if I could post a picture and mention your fabulous blog?

  33. Oh how cute, Dbbie! I love deer, I htink they are the gentlest creatures. We get them all the time but I did not know they eat bird feed. The food at the Myrtles was delicious. I got a sampler (gumbo, chicken and dumplings and jambalaya) cause I wanted to try more than one and each one is as good as the other. Just make sure you visit me when you get nearby!...Christine

  35. I totally thought a squirrel was the binge eater, I would never have guessed a deer. Well, I guess that keeps him away from the flowers and the bushes!

  38. Since you are a BA customer you can also go free to other venues including the zoo and history center etc. If you show your Fulton Cty drivers license you can go to the Art museum free one weekend a month. We live in the city so we take advantage of all the city has to offer and we like free. Now if they would only add the aquarium to all these lists I would be thrilled. If you and Linda come my way please let me know as I would enjoy seeing you both again.

  46. Ha! now that was a surprize to me! Our deer leave our bird feeders alone... probably because the food they find in the veggie garden is so much more fresh and delicious!
