A Fun and Versatile Gift Idea...Chalkboard Flower Pots

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Flower PotsI am excited to show you my latest project…my chalkboard flower pots! I am invited to two special events this weekend and have been looking for little gifts to offer. Now I think I have found just the thing! They are fun and easy to make and…best of all…are really versatile!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Supplies Here’s all you need…clay flower pots, 3x5 note card as a template, chalkboard paint, painter’s tape and ribbon to finish them off!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Flower Pot Tutorial
And here’s what you do:
  1. Position the 3x5 card on the pot, secure with tape and trace around it with a pencil.
  2. Remove the card and use painter’s tape to mark off the pencil lines.
  3. Paint with chalkboard paint. I used two coats and that seemed to be enough.  Remove the tape when the paint has had time to dry.
  4. Add a seasonal phrase with chalk and finish with ribbon, securing it with hot glue. I used burlap ribbon so that it could go with any time of year.

StaffThe staff was really excited about this project and had lots of suggestions! For spring, we popped in tulips and wrote a springy message. For fall, you could substitute mums or for Christmas, a poinsettia and change the message to one more appropriate for the season. It will be fun to see how many ways they can be used!

TulipsAnd we just have to give you a little peek at the inside of the tulips…aren’t they gorgeous? They just look like spring going somewhere to happen!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Flower Pots2Here’s a final peek. I think I am going to make some more and keep them on hand for “just in case.” You may be seeing more of these little guys showing up all year long!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my chalkboard flower pots! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

{Silk Tie} Dyed Eggs

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Silk Dyed EggsThere are only a few days left until Easter…just enough time for me to show you one last project…my silk dyed eggs!  For these eggs, I used a fun and different method to achieve the patterns and colors…old silk ties and scarves!

KittyOur co-host today Miss Kitty did a little research and found some easy-to-follow instructions here…courtesy of…who else?…Martha Stewart! I just followed along, doing exactly as Martha suggests. I did find on another website, however, that these eggs should not be eaten since the dye is not food safe.

Supplies A trip to Goodwill netted me some silk ties in festive Easter-y colors plus a silk scarf in a pretty shade of green. You must be sure that they are 100% silk or it will not work…so only use ties that are clearly labeled.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Silk Dyed Eggs4 Once the eggs were finished and I could get a look at the result, I was excited to see how they turned out! The scarf actually seemed to leave the best pattern…almost perfect!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Silk Dyed Eggs3And I loved the effect of the silk ties…a print of the original fabric on the front and a tie-dyed look on the back where the fabric had been gathered up with a rubber band.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Silk Dyed Eggs2Don’t you love these eggs? I think I almost like the swirly pattern from the back more than the one on the front! Now I think I am ready for Easter!

BK Easter And it looks like Baby Kitty is ready, too! And as Martha says...that’s a good thing…since the Easter bunny will soon be stopping by for a visit!  So the staff at Plate Addict and I are wishing lots of chocolate bunnies and jelly beans for you along with a very happy Easter!

Easter Fun...Peeps Mason Jar Candles

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Peeps Mason Jar CandlesI have a fun project for you just in time for Easter…my Peeps Mason jar candles! I have been thinking about this one for a while and debating what filler to use. Hmmm…jelly beans? Malted milk eggs? Nothing seemed quite right. Then I was walking through the grocery store today, pondering the problem in the Easter candy aisle (Don’t you just hate it when you have to spend time in the candy aisle? lol) when it hit me…bunny Peeps!

Ozzie I came home with my boxes of Peeps, all excited by my plan, but was virtually ignored by our beautiful CEO Miss Ozzie who was busy looking out the window. A flock (or is it a murder?) of crows had taken up housekeeping in the yard. Hmmm…it looks like I won’t be getting much help on this one!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Mason Jar Candles But that’s OK…most of the work was already done! You may remember my Pottery Barn inspired fall Mason jar candles…so much fun to make! You can see how I created them, including how to add the wires, by checking out the tutorial here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT SuppliesI have even added a jar since then so now I have three! Did you know that several brands of spaghetti sauce come in these jars..so they are free! Yaaay! Here’s what I did:
  • First, I added a wax button (from the candle aisle at World Market) to the bottom of my Dollar Tree glass votive holders. Using tongs, I lowered them into the jars and pushed down hard with the tongs to help lock them in place in the center.
  • Next, I added six Peeps bunnies around the edges of the jar, between the wall of the jar and the votive holders. I had to use a table knife to push them into position. Just a hint…if you will use the six outer bunnies, you will have less of the white marshmallow showing when you separate them.
  • Finally, holding the candles by the wicks with the tongs, I lowered them inside the votive holders.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Peeps Mason Jar Candles Then I just lit the candles with a long match and taaa daaa! Easy peasy! Aren’t they cute? I think they are the perfect festive touch for the Easter season! The candles don't seem to be close enough to the Peeps to cause a problem, however you could use LED candles if you wish. As with any candles, use caution and do not leave them unattended.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Peeps Mason Jar Candles My little grandsons will enjoy seeing these…and I even have some Peeps leftover for me…errr…them to eat! Now I am almost ready for Easter! What about you?

Simple and Rustic...My Easter Centerpiece

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Rustic Easter CenterpieceEaster will be here soon and spring has already officially arrived so I decided that it’s time to bring a little Easter to my breakfast room table! However, I wanted something a little more rustic and simple than the usual Easter decor.

Kitty So I asked my co-host Miss Kitty to give it her special (and favorite) point of view…upside down! She loves to occasionally look at her world from this position. It seems that she approves!

SheepAt the heart of my Easter centerpiece is this wonderful rustic lamb that I found at Joss and Main a while back. If you know me, you know I have a thing about sheep and goats, so I was excited to find it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Découpage Egg Nestled beside it, almost hiding among the moss rocks from Dollar Tree, is one of the découpage Easter eggs that I made last year…

080 …using pretty spring paper napkins with colorful botanical patterns. You can see more and find a complete tutorial for making these eggs here.

Spring HyacinthsAnd of course, it would not be Easter without some pretty spring flowers…and for me that’s hyacinths! I love the pastels and the wonderful fragrance! I wrapped them in burlap tied with jute twine and popped them in an old egg basket that I found at Goodwill several years ago. It’s the real deal, with handles worn from lots of mornings collecting eggs or perhaps vegetables from the garden. I love it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Rustic Easter Centerpiece3 I corralled it all in a wicker tray and centered it on my burlap table square to add a little bit of spring to my breakfast room and...there you have it…my rustic Easter centerpiece! I just have a few more spring and Easter projects left to show you…and I had better hurry! Easter will be here before you know it!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my centerpiece! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
