Christmas Open House: Great Ideas to Steal...er...Borrow!

IMG_4197 If you know me, you know I am a big fat copy cat! lol So when my friend Linda at Nina’s Nest and I found out that our favorite antique/flea market, the Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta, Georgia,  was having their Christmas open house, we headed out in search of inspiration…and we found it! First, this wonderful vignette of frenchiness greeted us when we walked in the door! I want that mirror!

IMG_4200 Be still my heart! An entire smorgasbord of inspiration in gray, silver and white with pops of natural greenery…breathtaking!  I am seeing a lot of silver so far this year!

hutch Look at this fabulous hutch! It makes me want to paint all of my furniture gray! It was filled with a marvelous assortment of wonderful old silverplate…one of my favorite things! I love the flocked garland with the gray ribbon intertwined!

IMG_4235 And here’s the matching wreath! Have you ever thought of gray as a Christmas color? So unusual!

IMG_4236 I love this little vignette with silverplate mixed with mercury glass and that gorgeous little snow bird!

merc glass 4 I don’t think I can breathe! Have you ever seen so many pieces of beautiful mercury glass?

page3 Some of the pieces were absolutely translucent! Even the Christmas trees were filled with mercury glass ornaments! I love that acorn! I have seen acorns as Christmas ornaments at several stores. I could stand here and drool all day, but we need to check out the rest of the store!

page5 More inspiration…sheet music wreaths…even one in the shape of angel wings…gorgeous! And do you see the one made from old maps? How unique!

page6 More fun with sheet music…ornaments galore, even from old books! And I love that tree…sitting in a champagne bucket with flatware ornaments and a sheet music garland!

page1 And now an assortment of interesting things to do with corks!  My favorite is the wreath in the upper right…corks affixed to a grapevine wreath.  And what a simple yet elegant idea to put them in a silver dish waiting to be served up!

page Look at this cute Parisian tree…all black and white! I love the lampshade tree topper…great idea!

IMG_4204 This is the first time I have seen these…windswept silver trees! I love the way they are mixed in with aqua…another unusual color combination for Christmas!

IMG_4224 How funsilver dollar plant (lunaria) spray painted silver and used in a wreath! Funny…my mom actually did this when I was little! She must have been ahead of her time! lol

IMG_4228 Another fun display…silver ornaments in a muffin tin!

IMG_4227 Oh, my little wheels are spinning! Moss ribbon! I can see is wrapped around all sorts of Styrofoam forms! I actually found it online here…$7.50 for 6 1/2 feet of it. Hmmm…would the staff eat that?

IMG_4237 Are you seeing a pattern here? I seem to be attracted to silver this year! And what have I decided to copy? Here’s the easiest thing to do…run right over to Walmart and buy these silver mercury glass acorns…$2.00 each! No kidding! They also have them in white and turquoise, too!

page Finally, I decided to try my hand at making the little snow bird, using a  $1.00 Dollar Tree birdie. First, I spray painted it cream since I am using it rather than white this Christmas, then gave it a good coat of Mod Podge followed by a sprinkling of white glitter…

IMG_4355…and voilĂ !  Not bad for $1.00! Now you will have to excuse me…I am pulling out my supply of sheet music and corks to get to work! lol More later!

  1. Good morning Debbie! Well now I am inspired too to use white, silver and grey! It's all so beautiful, magical and wintery. I love all the silver FOR SURE! I see lots of ways to use all the silver trays and pieces I accumulated for my daughter's wedding reception. Your little snow bird is just too precious. Looks like something I need to "copy"! LOL! Thanks for the ideas! :)

  2. What great inspiration pictures Deb! I love the silver, white and gray. So very elegant, and very different. I'm going to pop over and get some of those acorn ornaments, I love them! Although this year we seem to have an overabundance of them in the yard and I'm always griping about them hitting me on the head. DH is going to think I'm nuts if I BUY some LOL. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs, Kat

  3. I want to hug your neck for taking me along on your visit to this OPEN HOUSE!!!! I just love getting ideas and I can say that I was excited to see that little tree with the flatware, because I did this a few years ago and get this...I had never seen it done before I did mine (I even displayed it in a silver bucket too). I'm going to check out that moss ribbon...thanks so much for sharing that. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

    Blessings,
    Linda

  4. What inspiration in your post this Sunday...That mirror is to die for! I love the cork wreaths and the flocked wreath with the pewter gray bow is gorgeous. Hmmm, I am thinking the gray/silver/white and a tiny bit of aqua would be striking...
    Have a great week, Debbie.

  7. I'll be taking a few ideas from this post! Love those windswept trees too. I also like the lamp shade on top of the French decorated tree. Our family is growing by leaps and bounds and I don't have a fireplace so, this year I am going to use our coat rack for our Christmas stockings. I will top it off with one of those red and white sock hats. Thanks for sharing!~Ames

  8. Debbie, I just love all these vignettes. What beautiful ideas. My sister went to the Queen of Hearts open house week before last. I have not been to one. Afraid I would find too much to buy and not enough funds. Which one did you go to? By the way I am not having my party this week. Just way too busy with family coming in from oot.

  14. Oh Deb I can hear your wheels turning!!! Love the direction you are going. You are going to have so much fun this year!!!! I used moss like that for a wedding a few years back but I bought the sheet that comes 30 in wide, it is really easy to work with in fact I used it as a runner on my Easter table. You might call yourself a copy-cat but I call you a clever-gal!!! Kathysue
