I have been playing with some ideas for my Thanksgiving table for several weeks now and I think I have finally found one that I really like! It combines drop cloth, burlap, family heirlooms and Goodwill finds...an unusual combination, I admit! Let me show it to you...
…since our co-host Baby Kitty is preoccupied at the moment…watching the fall leaves blow around in the backyard. It’s his favorite thing to do this time of year and has been since he was a just a little guy! lol
At the center of it all...literally...is my grandmother's dough bowl filled with pillar candles tied with raffia and mini pumpkins on a bed of dried pinto beans! (Ooooh...sounds like a new vegetarian dish!) I thought a little pop of orange was needed with the creams and naturals on the table. It’s a variation of a centerpiece I did last year with white pumpkins. (Click here to see last year's before version!)
On either side of the dough bowl are my Pottery Barn inspired hurricanes. I love their subtle addition of fall color and texture! (Click here to find out how to make them...so easy!)
How do you like my tablecloth? It's a $5.00 drop cloth from Home Depot! lol They come two in a pack for under $10...already hemmed! I just washed it with a little bleach, popped it in the dryer and then pressed it with a steam iron and...voilà! It is topped with my ruffled burlap table runner that I showed you several weeks ago! (If you would like directions for making one, click here.)
The plates were a $10 Goodwill find...a service for four of Chris Madden Felice. I added a few pieces of my Wedgwood Queensware Plain to complete the setting. The embroidered napkins were $1.00 for four in the clearance aisle at Home Goods.
I love the chunkiness and the scrolled details of the plates! They really glow in the candlelight, don't you think?
Here's a better look at the burlap and drop cloth...more texture! The flatware is my mom's Towle Silver Flutes...I like the simple lines. There is nothing like the wonderful patina of old silver!
I am using my Irish crystal iced tea goblets along with some wine glasses I found at Goodwill. I like mixing it up a little...can you tell? lol
I also mixed in a few odds and ends. This is one of my favorite GW finds...a silverplate roll-top butter dish! I had let one get away and was determined to grab the next one I found. It was only $6.00!
Here's a final look at my table. I really like the combination of the rough textures and simple fabrics with the polished silver and sparkling crystal. I think it is simple and elegant without being too fussy.
Now all we need is our Thanksgiving dinner...turkey with herbes de Provence, dressing with giblet gravy, wild rice, congealed cranberry salad, broccoli casserole, sweet potato soufflé with brown sugar pecan topping, baby lima beans, green bean casserole and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert! It's the same every year, but my brother-in-law says that we have perfected it, so why change? lol
What do you think? Have you already planned your table?

ReplyDeleteLove love love. Love everything.
ReplyDeleteEspecially that butter dish. It is amazing.
Deb it looks amazing. I love the cream and all of the textures. So sweet to have Grandmas dough bowl at a table that all will sit and be thankful. Great job and great finds, Miss Diva Thrift Queen!! love you, Kathysue
ReplyDeleteDeb, it is just so pretty with all that cream and natural elements. Thanks for linking this up tonight.
ReplyDeleteWow Debbie, Your Thanksgiving table is so elegant. I too love the textures of the burlap and drop cloth juxtaposed with the silver and porcelain. Your grandmother's dough bowl is perfect as a centerpiece too.
ReplyDeleteHI Debbie! Your table is gorgeous! I love everything - your dishes! What a deal. I love your centerpiece and I would love to copy it!! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Totally stunning from end to end! I love the neutrals and the idea of mixing all these textures. My favorite look ~ beautiful layers of textures in both ceramics and textiles. You definitely have the creative genius that it takes to pull this off, Debbie. I'd love to be dining at this table.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
PS.
Love the idea of the drop cloth. I need to remember that one. ;-)
I just love your table...I think it looks elegant with the cream color and the splash of orange.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
Suzann
I love the mix, too. I've needed a white tablecloth - must remember to buy a drop cloth. Enjoy the Thanksgiving season! Sally
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you table is very simple, but oh so elegant. I like the idea of using a drop cloth as a tablecloth...perfect cream color, which can be hard to find, especially when you need one! Did you iron it and was it hard to get the wrinkles out? You got a great deal on those beautiful Chris Madden plates. Your centerpiece is very pretty flanked with the mini corn candles.
ReplyDeleteGive that gorgeous Baby Kitty a couple scratches behind the ear from me.
Have a great week.
I love the dropcloth idea. And people can get as messy at the want and you won't be worrying about an heirloom piece. Everything looks so inviting.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Debbie, so cozy and inviting! I predict much lingering and good conversation after your meal-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so gorgeous!! I love your centerpiece and your plates are beautiful, what a great find!! The mix of natural elements are perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove the drop cloth for the table cloth! I have some that cover my bench seating! Love them!!!
LOVE IT!! All the textures of the runner and cloth and the shine of your silver really make it stunning.
ReplyDeleteOf course, the wonderful thing is your grandmother's dough bowl. What a treasure to use and enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteWhat an elegant table setting for Thanksgiving! I adore those plates with the scrolls and that little butter dish. . .you found the bargain~of~the~day! The picture of Baby Kitty looking outside reminded me of the cat in State Farm yesterday when I changed their vignette. I put in a red floral and he (Sebastian) wouldn't take his eyes off it! Pets enrich our lives in wonderful ways.
Fondly,
Pat
Salut Debbie.....I just love the whole combination. The naturals and textures and creamy whites are my new favorite thing. You put it together beautifully! Linda
ReplyDeleteChris Madden at goodwill... what a find!
ReplyDeleteI love your grandmother's dough bowl!
:)
ButterYum
Our Thanksgiving is over but after seeing your gorgeous table, you are making me want to do it all over again! I love the combination of the neutrals and creams with the little pop of orange in the middle. The scroll edges on the plates add texture as does the fabulous burlap runner. Your photography has totally captured the "feel" of the tablescape too especially the glow of the pillar candles. Loving it!
ReplyDeleteDD
Beautiful table, Debbie. I love the neutral colors.
ReplyDeleteYour table is just beautiful! Calm and serene and I just love every element of it!
ReplyDeleteI love your Thanksgiving table. I always love the look of neutrals together. The beautiful textures really make it work. I like the fact that a lot of your things are inherited or found! And really, is there anything you can't do with burlap and a drop cloth?
ReplyDeleteKeep the inspiration coming!
Super gorgeous and great photos, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table. I love the combination of the whites, creams and browns. I haven't started my Thanksgiving table yet...I better get to it.
ReplyDeleteThe table looks great and the butter dish is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHow simple yet elegant, Debbie! I think this table will get lots of compliments. I love the neutrals and the texture. I have tons of the drop cloth from one itty bitty project and I never thought to make a tablecloth! Very nice. And I adore your runner!! The plates are so pretty as well as the silver and crystal! Love it all!

Debbie, it looks WONDERFUL! You kicked this one out of the ball park, my friend. And that Baby Kitty... I love him so! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove all the elements on the table, and aren't your proud that you made some of them??? I wish you were here to help me decide what on earth to do for runners in my dining room for the tour of homes. I am at sixes and sevens. I guess it will work out, but when??? LOL!
SO glad to get to see this neat table. Thanks for sharing.
XO,
Sheila :-)
I love all your creamy whites. I have to say that by this time of year I'm sick of all the orange. I sort of want it to go away after Halloween. This is a very soft, elegant yet comfortable look.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove your table! Just my style!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful, Debbie, simple and elegant! You did a great job, mixing things in, it looks perfect!
ReplyDeletevery pretty, i love quiet simple colors~
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, I agree with EVERYONE! IT is stunning. I think I'm going to do this too. I love the calm serene look of it all. It is gorgeous. And don't you love those drop cloths? I use them for all kinds of things, I just love them and made curtains for my entire upstairs with them. They are great. What a wonderful post. I hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Debbie
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today (or was it yesterday?) I love your table - I love the name of your blog (why can't I be that creative with a 'name')... and I LOVE that you used the drop cloth from Home Depot, which is my favorite store! I used a HD canvas drop cloth for the cover of my first workroom table too! It worked like a dream and was cheap! The silver looks so perfect next to the canvas and burlap - I really love the burlap on the table. A lot of people are using the burlap on the windows lately and I'm not a huge fan, but I LOVE it on your table!
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower! I am looking forward to coming back and reading more. I hope you'll come back and read my blog soon too. I'm trying to get my dining area ready for TT on Thursday (BTNOTP) but I've got big changes I'm trying to achieve, not sure if I'll get there in time!
Take care,
Michelle

Artfully done, love your use of white, such beauty!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I am so burned out on color that I, too, am considering using creams for this Thanksgiving. I LOVE that burlap runner! I can't sew a lick, so I won't be making one...but I really like yours! Have a happy Thanksgiving!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Please stop over and see my simplified similar version of this look. I will be out of town for Thanksgiving, but I wanted a festive look on the cheap. I hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the white plates! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully serene & soft tablescape you've created! I adore every single inch of it but my heart rate soared when I saw your silverplate roll-top butter dish! *sigh* Why can't I ever find such wonderful treasures???? Can I just give you my CC number & let you shop FOR me???
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteYour table is so special! I do love everything about it. I'm thinking of making a run to Home Depot, for starters. Really. Or just send Mister over.
The textures, the place settings, the centerpiece. It's all lovely.
And Baby Kitty is a star. Don't you love how cats take themselves so seriously? So many of the traits that are so endearing in cats are not attractive in people. They always make me smile!
Have a wonderful weekend and Thanksgiving!
Debbie, I am leaning more and more to a neutral palette these days and your table really fits the bill! Love how you decorated the hurricanes and added the little white pumpkin to accent the place setting. Really, really, nice!! Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving celebration next week. hugs, Sue
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I love your choice for the color scheme of your Thanksgiving Table. I love the cream dishes!!
ReplyDeleteThankyou for this lovely post! I am having family over to my house for the first time for Thanksgiving and needed some serious inspiration. I have dishes very similar to the ones in your post. I even bought some burlap 2 weeks ago! Something told me to buy it even though I had no clue what I was going to do with it. LOVE! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI really like this table. Especially, the burlap runner. It adds wonderful texture! I am featuring 3 completely different Thanksgiving tablescapes this week over at my blog. Check it out!
ReplyDeleteThis all looks totally beautiful. I might have to steal your centerpiece idea. Kinda wish I hadn't used my last good drop cloth when I was painting!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of table. Great texture and you would never know how budget friendly it is if you hadn't told us. That butter dish is so cool! Thanksgiving tables are so much fun. My favorite thing is the dough bowl.
