Here's what you will need:
- Oranges
- Green felt
- Cinnamon sticks
- Pattern for leaves found HERE
- Jute twine
- Sharp knife
- Scissors
And here's what you will do:
- Print the pattern and cut a leaf for each orange.
- Fold the leaf in half and cut a tiny slit near the bottom of each leaf.
- Cut a piece of jute twine about 12 inches long.
- Insert the twine through the slit.
- Using the knife, make a small hole in one end of the orange.
- Insert the cinnamon stick until only a small portion protrudes. This is the stem.
- Tie the twine around the cinnamon stick and adjust the leaf.
Taaa daaa! Here it is! Isn't it cute? Imagine making the leaf from green scrapbooking paper and adding names...instant place cards!
I will be displaying mine and will see how long they last. I'm hoping the cinnamon stick preserves them much like cloves do when you make a pomander. I'll keep you posted! In any case, they will be a fun decoration for a little while! ;-)
Although when the little grands see them, they may become instant treats! I have to admit that I have already...errrr...sacrificed one to the cause myself! I squeezed the orange and drank the juice though the cinnamon stick! It took a little practice but the cinnamon added a nice flavor twist! Just be sure that you are not allergic to cinnamon first since it's a relatively common spice allergy.
