This is how it looked when I found it…a little too much contrast for me! But I could see lots of possibilities and at $1.91…yes, you read that correctly!…it hopped right into my cart!
And with the addition of some Annie Sloan Paris Grey paint, here it is! Honestly, my intention was to give it a good coat of that color and top it off with some Old White and then distress it…but then I realized that would hide all of its personality!
I love the way the original turquoise and gold are peeking through! It really gives it an aged look! 
But now…what to do with it? Baby Kitty suggests adding a stack of vintage books…
…and I do like the look of all of that texture!
Maybe I’ll top it with one of my double happiness jars filled with hydrangeas…
…or my favorite Santos cage doll. Hmmm…it seems that I had some difficulty taking this shot without Baby Kitty’s tail getting in the way! 
Don’t you love the little cherub at her base? And the colors in the clouds complement the painted piece!
But I have to say that my favorite is the stack of starfish!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! I love the colors peeking through the Paris Grey. I like the starfish on it, but also like the Santos doll on it, too. Ha! Your Baby Kitty is like my cats. Seems like whenever I pull out the camera, one of them has to make an appearance for a photo opp. :)

ReplyDeleteI love the paint job you did on it- the colors peeking through look great. I have one very similar to this that I bought years ago. I've used it for a candle holder, not very imaginative- I like all your ideas for it much better. :)

Wooo ~ what a bargain find, Debbie! I know I've seen these at Hobby Lobby and they are not $1.91!! It looks great and I like how you left some of the other colors showing through. It does make it look older. I like everything you've displayed on it. I think you are going to have fun adding different things to sit on it.

Hi Debbie, That was a GREAT GW find! I have three of these in my home, sm. med and lg. I bought at a nice home decor shop. I LOVE the stacked starfish the best. I usually use these as risers for things, but love the idea of just stacking something on top.

Great paint job and don't you love a "work horse" of a piece that you can use so many great ways. LOVE all your ideas...oh, and Baby Kitty's too, of course. I kept looking at the starfish..they almost look like they're crocheted...or is it just me?

ReplyDeleteIt's "PURR-FECT", especially with Baby Kitty effects added...I LOVE the end produce. The bits of blue are wonderful AND maybe if it had not been the color you bought it as, you MAYBE would have had it all white? LOVE IT this way!
