I an so excited to show you my hutch! I have some fabulous Goodwill hunting trophies who have taken up residence there! Can you spot them?
It’s this trio of hunting dogs…that is, dogs dressed in vintage hunting attire! Aren’t they cute? And best of all, they were only $8.00…total! Woo hoo! Now I know you are wondering what I am doing buying dogs…my staff was a little puzzled at first, too...but if you have been following my blog for very long, you know I have a thing for little animals wearing old-fashioned clothes. I know, weird, but true! I think it comes from the time I spent pouring over the illustrations in my favorite childhood book…The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.
I have scattered them among my bargain Wedgwood from GW, my Red Cliff ironstone tea set and some of my favorite silver and pewter pieces. I think they look right at home! What about you?
And I have some great vintage frenchy finds to show you, too! I found a wonderful addition for my little collection of French cafĂ© au lait cups and lug bowls…most of which have names on them! I found this one at GW for $2.52! It’s from the picturesque little French fishing village of Honfleur…one of the places on my must visit list. Someone must have bought it as a souvenir years ago. I love the little hand-painted man in traditional Normand costume! Georges…I have your lug bowl and I’m not giving it back!
And…my best GW hunting trophy in a while…a first edition of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking: Volume Two! Woot! Woot! It’s up to $100 on eBay…and I paid…are you ready?…$2.50! I can add it to my first American edition of the Larousse Gastronomique…also a GW find at the same price! Can you believe people give these things away?
Meanwhile, I have finally gotten the Christmas decor back in the attic and started pulling out my favorite frenchy accents. My fork candle is once again wearing its blue and yellow Provençal ribbon and the little silver dish has been replaced by my Bonjour sign…welcoming visitors into my home!
The snow and ice here in the South are finally beginning to melt a little and life is slowly returning to normal...after five days of being snowed in! Baby Kitty has been enjoying watching the birds flutter around the feeder outside the window, but he’s ready to have a look at them from outdoors…in my presence, of course! And with no hunting allowed! lol Isn’t he a handsome little man? And as for me…I am ready for some restaurant food...French onion soup and a seven pepper sirloin salad at Longhorn!! Now that really sounds good!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my hutch! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

ReplyDeleteYou know I love your Frenchy look with all the colorful china, and I love that Baby Kitty. Hope you both get out of the house soon. I know how you feel. I've been stuck inside forever with this respiratory thing that has recycled itself.
XO,
Sheila :-)

ReplyDeleteYour posts always stop me in my tracks. Those dogs are adorable and add some whimsy to your hutch (which is gorgeous, by the way) You really did well at the GW. That cookbook is a real find. I think Baby Kitty looks a bit put out by dogs arriving into the home:) Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5
ReplyDeleteSalut Debbie....Love the way the doggies look in the hutch - really cute. You have quite a collection of French bowls "Authentique"! Wow - what an eye, girl! Linda
ReplyDeleteHI Debbie! Oh, if these little doggies upset the kitties too much, just send them to me. They'd look darling in my dog house! :)
ReplyDeleteHow cute cute cute! Love how it all looks in your china cabinet. Love the bowls and you're so Frenchy! :)
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteYour hutch, truly, has become enhanced by some handsome fellows in their hunting attire!Oh~h~h, yes! My thoughts immediately went to "The Staff" and their reactions!
But, by the expression on Kitty's face, they don't seem to mind at all.
You found some real bargains @ GW! Lucky you. . .and a great eye for spotting them! Enjoy each and every treasure. I'll be awaiting the arrival of more of your "frenchy" items from the attic!
Fondly,
Pat
Oh how I love my visits here to your blog. I always feel as if I had a nice visit in your home. I love love the dogs in clothes, they are whimsical and very handsome I might add. I remember the first time I had a latte out of a bowl. It was so much better than a cup. It was at a little Italian sidewalk cafe. I have never forgotten that. I think you just reminded me of something I need to collect. xo Kathysue
ReplyDeleteJust so pretty, Debbie. I love how this looks.
ReplyDeleteYou undoubtedly have the very best Goodwill, ever! Ours are not nearly as much fun.
Your hutch looks darling and votre chat(the co host) est tres joli!

ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me with your GW treasures. Unbelievable, over and over again. When I go, I don't see anything great like you find. They are building a big new GW just blocks from my home, so maybe I'll spend more time ther. How often do you go?
ReplyDeleteThe hunting dogs are perfect on the hutch.

Ooooooo Debbie I love those doggies!! And a 1st edition Julia Childs cookbook for $2.50? Score Big-O!! Love ALL of your fab finds! Vanna
ReplyDeleteOh how I am enamored with those dogs, Debbie! What a great find. Our GW never has such finds- must be that its donors don't give up much when they clean out or move or re-decorate. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour little fork candle is adorable- I really should do that with my little gold spoons. Hope your weather clears up soon- we are still cold, gray, and blustery in Ohio. No snow forecast any time soon, I don't think....
Take care! hugs, Sue
Oh Debbie...I adore the little doggies they are adorable all dressed up for the hunt and the frenchy dishes are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove it all!
Are those plates in the photo with Baby Kitty from Haldon Group? I bought 4 salad plates at a yard sale (http://firstadream.blogspot.com/2010/10/yard-sales-real-mccoy-and-more.html) and they look so similar! I put them for sale in my booth, but can't quit thinking about them. I think I'm going to bring them home.
ReplyDeleteIf you have time, I would love for you to link this post (or any of your other ones) to my blog party at http://firstadream.blogspot.com/
Love the dogs! They look great perched in your beautiful hutch! The French pieces are fabulous. And, your furry baby is adorable. Have a great day, Becca
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you do have the best luck at GW. Love those adorable dogs dressed for the hunt. Like you, animals dressed in clothes make me smile with delight. Guess it's the teacher in me and the hundreds of children's books that I've enjoyed through the years.
ReplyDeleteYour home always looks charming, but especially so in its French mode. LOL
~ Sarah
The hutch looks great! Love the dogs so much.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, those dogs are just so cute, and such a good looking accent for your hutch! Once again, I am soooo jealous of your GW hunting! Of course, I love your French china finds! I am always so excited and shocked by what you find at your GW! That cookbook is another incredible find. Baby Kitty really is pretty, but I had a difficult time seeing him, because all I was seeing was your wonderful Quimper collection! Thank you so much for linking to Favorite Things. laurie
ReplyDeleteLove the figurines! We weren't snowed in for five days, but it took longer than that for the icy snow to finally melt away! Hope you'll come see the picture wall I helped DD2 create for her home.

I want those dogs! They are so adorable. I guess I like clothed animals too, just never really thought it about. I have quite a few rabbit figurines wearing clothes that I display almost year round, some more in the Spring than others though.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think your hutch is charming and the dogs add such a touch of fun color and whimsy.
Thanks for sharing,
Nancy
Debbie, I have seen those dogs at a decor shop in Alpharetta that I blogged about early last year. I can't believe you lucked up on them at GW. You always find the best stuff. I find crap. That book is up to $100 on ebay? Wow. You did get a good deal on that for sure. Love the bowl, too.

ReplyDeleteNobody & I mean NOBODY does Goodwill Hunting better than YOU, Debbie!! BRAVO & CONGRATS on such wonderful scores!
ReplyDeleteThe doggies are cute but I'd rather your sweet kitties any day. What a handsome fellow Baby Kitty is!
You & I & Mid-Atlantic Martha & Bill all have the same vintage carafe! He put OJ in his! LOL
Thanks for the sweet birthday song & for sharing your pretty collections with us, too. I just love *coming to visit*
Hello Debbie,
ReplyDeleteLove the hunting dogs! What a great price on the first edition Julia Child cookbook. Your hutch looks great! Seeing your sconces on each side made a light bulb go off... I have been trying to figure out what to put on each side of mine. The area is not large so sconces or something similar would be perfect.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
~ Tracy
Your hutch looks wonderful with your new GW finds! And your Quimperware is just gorgeous, I'm a big fan! I've really enjoyed seeing your staff over here on the sidebar, I'm a kitty lover bigtime!
