Of course, you will find my ever-growing collection of Quimper pottery displayed in my home. And I have to admit that I am rather informal when it comes to styling the breakfast room hutch where it is displayed. I love the casual look of stacks of vintage plates and bowls…
…intermingled with plates on stands and wonderful old finds such as that little pitcher nestled in among the bowls.
And I don’t even mind if the pieces are broken and were lovingly mended by a previous owner. That is just a testament to me that he or she loved Quimper pottery as much as I do!
But you may be surprised to find that at the base of that same hutch, I have displayed my collection of clay cookers. And although mine are not French (they're actually German), they remind me of the clay fait-tout cooking pots that are the workhorse for many old French recipes.
The duck is my favorite! I just love how the base of the pot has been made to resemble a basket!
On the hutch in the dining room, you will find my blue and white collection. I know what you are thinking…they are not French at all, but are largely either English or Asian. I admit that you are right, however, I have to say that I took a hint from Charles Faudree in this department. He was also a lover of blue and white and felt that crossing borders serves to enrich the mix…and I happily agree!
I also love to sprinkle in a few pieces of vintage Red Cliff ironstone. The traditional grape pattern just looks French to me!
Occasionally, I will add some vintage silverplate. I love the way the patina of an old tray reflects the room!
And I have also been known to dress down my collection by adding in pieces such as this shabby toolbox.
I love the way it pulls together mismatched vintage plates and old lids and makes them make sense!
But perhaps my favorite shelf is the little half wall by the entrance to my home. I like to have a little greeting there to welcome my guests. It’s my home all summed up in a tiny vignette…sunny Provençal colors with a touch of vintage collections lovingly displayed so that they can be enjoyed all year round!

ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this! What a dish collection, as a lover of pottery and transferware yours is gorgeous, my friend. Adorable pot-duck too!
ReplyDeleteThe way you have displayed them is wonderful, as this way you can enjoy them. I specially love the tool box with the blue china.

So love all of this! The hutch and blue willow pieces looks just like the dining room I grew up with. My grandmother and Mom were both French. Such a lovely job and arrangement - as well as inspiring lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, your vignettes are styled to perfection. Like you, I like to mix different ceramic collections in our home. Quimper and other French faience are at the heart, but a mix of English, Asian, and American contemporary blue and white pieces accent our living room. White ironstone clusters on the sun porch, and then MacKenzie-Childs works it's way into our home as well. Live with that which makes you happy. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOff to add some of these images to my Pinterest boards. Thanks for an inspiring post!
I love your collection displays! I am a blue and white collecter so I don't care where any of it comes from. I love your sharing and your honesty. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I too love Charles Faudree! I adore the tool box displaying your lovely blue and white china. So classic and yet so fresh. Charming! The only thing missing is the staff.
