I knew I was going to have to try them when I saw this on the Country Living’s website! But I am going to be honest with you…don’t even bother to click over to see what they did because it was a total project fail for me! Thiers involved Mod Podge, food coloring and Sharpie pens and I think you can see that the results are less than colorful. So, undeterred, I gave it a little thought and came up with my own version.
Here’s what you will need:
- Martinelli’s apple juice bottles, clean and dry (I used one large and one small)
- Krylon Colormaster spray paint in Pumpkin Orange (Yes, that’s what it’s called!)
- Jute twine
- Black and orange felt
- Jack-o’-lantern face templates found here and here
- Elmer’s Glue-All
- Hot glue gun
- Candles
1. Spray the bottles with several light coats of paint, letting dry in between. Decide which part of the bottle you will use as the front. (Here I must thank my guest Barb at The Everyday Home for donating the large bottle!)
2. Hot glue the end of the jute twine at the back of the base of the neck of the bottle.
3. Wrap the twine around the neck until you reach the top and then secure the other end with another drop of hot glue. Make sure that both ends are on the back side of your bottle.
4. You will find that the top of the larger bottle is a bit more challenging so you will need to secure the twine with small drops of hot glue as you wind.
5. Here is how the finished bottles will look. I love the way the twine gives the effect of the stems!
6. Print the face templates (links listed above) and cut out the pieces from the black felt.
7. Lay the bottles on the side, position the pieces and secure with Elmer’s Glue-All. Don’t worry…it will dry clear.
8. You will find that the mouth of the bottle is a bit too large, so cut a strip of orange felt to wrap around the base of the candle so that it will fit.
And…taaa daaa!…here are the finished candlesticks! They will add the perfect festive touch to my Halloween decorations!
Now just light the candles and they are ready to welcome your guests and trick-or-treaters…both big and small!
And just in case you need some fun and easy way to package the treats for your special little trick-or-treaters, here are my no-sew Halloween goodie bags…and you don’t have to sew a stitch!
And here are my duct tape pumpkins…so easy and fun to make that the kids can help!
And finally…this one is so easy that it’s almost embarrassing to call it a project…my Country Living inspired five minute ghosts! You can literally make them and have them waiting on the porch for your guests in five minutes!
Baby Kitty wants to show you his costume and wish you an early Happy Halloween! And he says please remember to bring in your pets so that they can have a safe and happy Halloween, too!
Remember to pin it!
