August is now half over, school has started back and we are having, believe it or not, a few days of lower humidity here in the South! And...Labor Day will be here before you know it! The combination of these things has me beginning to think about fall! Sooooo…I decided to add a little transitional centerpiece to my dining room table.
Now Baby Kitty knows that it’s just a little too soon to even think about it for all of you who had the winter-that-would-not-end last year, but he hopes that you understand that the heat, humidity and constant yard work have gotten the best of us down here in the South! We are ready for a little teensy hint of fall!
I started with my grandmother's dough bowl, one of my most prized possessions, and filled it with Granny Smith apples and pears. I don’t know why, but that just says fall to me!
Then I added sunflowers to my favorite rooster vase…a smaller version of the one found in Charles Faudree’s French Country Signature. That always makes me smile! And…it was a bargain at only $10 in my favorite flea and antique shop!
I love the rooster…so frenchy…and the little chicks around his feet!
I rounded them all up in my Williams Sonoma Outlet bargain basket and placed it on my grain sack table runner…still not quite ready to get out the ruffled burlap runner. And there you have it…a centerpiece to finish out the last days of summer and take me into the beginning of fall!
Here’s my simple fall dough bowl inspired by Pottery Barn from a few years back…a little more fallish than my current one, but still not full-blown fall!
And here’s where my mind is starting to head…another fall dough bowl filled with pumpkins and bittersweet! ReplyDeleteSummer is still in full swing here in north Texas. 100°+ temperatures for the past few days and more forecast for next week. School starts for teachers on Monday, with students going back the following week. But, the beginning of school in August never signals Fall in north Texas. :) We will start getting Fall weather sometime around October.
As soon as I spotted your rooster vase, I thought, "French." What a wonderful find at your local flea/antique market.
Have you considered applying for My French Country Home's internship? I think you would be a perfect fit for MFCH. If only I knew French and were a little more social media savvy, I think I would apply.

I'm with Judith here in Texas and it's so not Fall here yet. I would for it to be because I'm starting to see lots of beautiful inspiration around blog land. Your vignettes are beautiful though and the one from last year reminds me that I want to find a dough bowl somewhere. :)

ReplyDeleteLove your vignette on the dining room table - it really looks nice. You have given me some ideas, even though it was 93 today. I am chomping at the bit to start fall decorating. I put up my fall decor the first of September and then closer to Halloween I add the scary things, then they out and leave the fall up until a week before Thanksgiving and then it's Christmas decor - so I can hardly wait.

Fall is way too close, and with summer being such a short season in Maine I can't think about it yet!

ReplyDeleteI am with Lulu and Elaine, after the winter we had I refuse to give one thought to Fall until Sept 22 when it is official. Even then I will I will give up Summer kicking and screaming! It's a long time till the next one in NY. I know for the Southerners it is different. Our schools never start till after Labor Day, which is still Summer!

It is a great transition piece! I do love your dough bowl so much! I'm going to enjoy the rest of August as summertime since I've been gone so much, but I think the Fall might be calling my name by Sept 1st~~

I too am ready for fall. Here in Maryland we've had a few fall-like days and they were great! Love your table decor. It's inspired me to do a little something with my dining table. Oh and btw, love your kitties. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Debbie! It is still very much summer here in the Midwest with a week in the 90s ahead of us. The humidity is supposed to get really crazy again, too, after a brief respite last week. With temps & humidity way up there, fall is nowhere on my radar yet!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the "transitional" look. It hits the mark! Sunflowers speak of both summer and fall to me, and there's no doubt that apples and pears are at their best as we start to wind summer down and move into fall.
Love your centerpiece and think it is a wonderful way to transition from one season to the next. I know there are those who don't want to think about fall yet but here in New Hampshire the leaves are starting to turn, the apples in our orchard are blushing with color and the days have been cooler. ReplyDeleteLovely. We are 90 degrees in northeast, also the home of the winter that didn't want to end. Even worse, the Farmers' Almanac says the polar vortex is returning for a NE revisit! Oh no! Regardless, Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons, and I love your pre-autumn decor. Enjoy!
