Ballard Inspired Architectural Piece

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ballard Inspired Architectural PieceWe’ve been having a few days of cooler weather…unusual for us here in Georgia…and I have been taking advantage of it to get my yard and patio back into shape. I’ll have photos to show you soon. However, in the meanwhile I do have a small make-over to share with you…my Ballard inspired architectural piece!

However, it’s not new. The last time that you saw it was two years ago when it looked like this…painted Annie Sloan’s Paris Grey. You may remember how it looked when I found it…a horror with a really good shape! I enjoyed trying it out to showcase some of my favorites, like these starfish.

BK and booksBaby Kitty liked it best with this stack of old books…but the truth is that grey just doesn't go with anything in my house! So the piece has sat in my closet for two years. Yikes! But since I got it for a song at Goodwill, I haven’t felt very guilty about that.
Ballard Designs But when I saw the Medici Capitol at Ballard Designs, I knew what I needed to do…paint it a distressed white! One big difference...theirs of a similar size is $49 and mine...only $1.91! Woo hoo!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ballard Inspired Architectural Piece3So I pulled out my Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint and added a quick coat…trying not to cover too much of the grey finish so that it would still have that vintage look…and I love the result!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Ballard Inspired Architectural Piece2 I think I will find many more ways to use it in this lighter color since it will work so much better with my décor!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Spring VignetteI have to say that, although I am not one to paint my furniture, I have made good use of my little sample of Old White, sprucing up a gold thrift store frame for my vintage French spring vignette

054…and dressing up an old Clementine box to create my vintage French planter box. It’s just about all gone, so I may have to invest in some more soon! And stay tuned because I still have some summery projects to share with you!

  1. It looks great with in distressed white, and love the crepe myrtle blossom on top. Yours looks so good, I think I'll find the gray one I have and the white paint. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. I like how you see things and have the eye to find similar looks to basically create the same look. There's a couple of things now you have shown that I'm on the look out for now too, this being one of them. Thanks for sharing your good ideas Debbie. :-)

  6. So cool. I have the same piece. I got as a donation for a garage sale. It didn't sell so I bought it myself for a mere $2.00 can't believe no one jumped on it! I figured it was pretty cool! I enjoyed seeing what you've done with it.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Sherry
