Fall Dough Bowl with Natural Elements

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Dough Bowl with Natural ElementsWith Thanksgiving only a few short weeks away, I am having fun playing with my grandmother's dough bowl and creating possible centerpieces for our holiday table! And with my emphasis on calm, soothing colors this year, I decided to try filling it with natural elements in shades of creamy whites and green.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Dough Bowl with Natural ElementsI used three basic layers to create this year's look.
  1. Start with a bed of greens such as kale. Yep...kale straight from the grocery store! I love the darker shade of green and all the ruffly texture that it adds!
  2. Layer in white pumpkins and gourds in several shades of green. I am loving all the lumps and bumps on this pale green gourd!
  3. Top it all off by sprinkling in a handful of pretty acorns. It sounds like a recipe for a salad, doesn't it? ;-)
CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Dough Bowl with Natural ElementsI found some great gourds in shades of green this year! I love this cute little guy! It sort of looks like a mini watermelon...round like the ones from the market in France.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fall Dough Bowl with Natural ElementsMiss Kitty couldn't resist a little photo bombing with her tail!

Here's last year's fall dough bowl, created using a little different twist on my three-step process. You can get all the details HERE. And stay tuned because I have more ideas for your Thanksgiving table!

  1. I'm loving my gourds this year, also! Mine have yellow, orange, green & white with long curly stems. Love your breadbowl!

  2. Seeing your title made me laugh. Several years ago I filled a dough bowl with fall elements similar to yours, heavy with pine cones also. The difference is I used mine as a centerpiece on an "outside" table. Can you guess what happened? The next morning my bowl was almost empty. Some creatures had a smorgasbord!

  3. I really enjoyed your dough bowl tutorial. But I did get a laugh to see Miss Kitty's tail as part of a lovely photo.
