How to Make a Pillow Cover from a Tea Towel

If you know me, you know that I love throw pillows! I have them for every season and holiday and even have a collection of them with a French theme. So when I spotted this frenchy tea towel, I knew it was begging to be made into a pillow! And I think I have found an easy way to do just that, so I am going to share it with you!

Here's what you will need:
  • Tea towel of your choice (mine came from World Market)
  • Coordinating fabric cut into four 9 inch x 5 inch pieces (These are the ties. You could use ribbon if you prefer.)
  • Lumbar pillow form (mine is 22 inches x 13 inches)

And here's what you will do:
  1. Fold the tea towel over the pillow form so that the short sides overlap about 2 inches or as much as your pillow form will allow. You may need to allow for the design on your towel as well. Mark the measurement with pins and remove the pillow from.
  2. Fold one end of the tea towel up at the measurement that you determined would work. Overlap the other end over it, pin in place, turn inside out and then stitch. You have created a sort of open-ended tube.
  3. With the tube still inside out, stitch across one end, leaving the other open for the pillow form.
  4. Stitch each of the smaller fabric pieces on three side, leaving one of the shorter ones open. Clip excess and corners, turn and press. These are the ties.
  5. Stitch the four pieces to the inside of the open end of the cover so that you have two sets of ties lined up at about 1/3 and 2/3 points.

  3. You have the prettiest fur crew. That must be one of the reasons your blog is such an inspiration. Coordination? Spread the word that black cats (who are the least likely to be adopted, followed by white cats) go with EVERYTHING! That's why all the fashionable women understand the need for the "basic" black dress.
I am sure your helpers would agree with me.

  4. What a great pillow! I don't have a sewing machine but could maybe do this with Fabric glue??? Might give that a try! Have a most wonderful Mother's day!
