DIY Spring Tulip Wreath

I am really excited to share my project today because it's one that I have been mulling over for a while...my DIY Spring Tulip Wreath! I have actually seen several versions of it in blogland and on Etsy, but have always waited too late to give it a try. So when I saw it was beginning to appear in stores such as Pier 1, I knew the time had come to make my own!



There are actually versions using grapevine wreaths in both circular and more whispy forms as well as Styrofoam as the wreath base, but I decided that I liked this one from The Frugal Homemaker the best. So with the help of my co-host Baby Kitty,  I set about gathering up my supplies!

Here's what you will need:

• 15 tulip bunches in 3 colors...5 of each. I chose white, pink and dark pink. (Mine came from Michaels at 40% off with a 20% off total purchase coupon as well...or just under $2.00 per bunch.)
• Grapevine wreath (I spent $3.00 at Hobby Lobby with a coupon. Mine was about 16 inches wide.)
• Wire snips
• Jute twine to hang

I spent a total of just under $35 for the supplies...a little more than I usually like to spend...but I love this one so much that I know I will use it year after year!

And here's what you will do:
Separate the tulip bunches into single stems. These made 8 stems, although that would depend on where you purchase your tulips. Slide the leaves up the stem until they are directly under the flowers.

Insert the stems into the wreath at a side angle, making sure that they all face the same direction as you go. They seemed to be secure and did not need to be hot glued as long as they were pushed well into the wreath. The teacher in me started out trying to follow a pattern for the colors but soon discovered that it was best just to trust my eyes.

As a final touch, smooth the tulips, tucking them in as you go, so that they flow more to the side rather than sticking up. Add a loop with a length of jute twine to the back and it's ready to hang! I love mine and wish I had done it long ago!
