Country Living Inspired Jack o' Lantern Candlesticks

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Country Living Inspired Jack-o'-Lantern CandlesticksBoo! Is Halloween sneaking up on you? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) It’s less than two weeks away but it’s not too late to decorate! I’ve got a few super-easy last-minute ideas to share with you today and the first…my Country Living inspired Jack-o’-lantern candlesticks!

Country Living jack-o-lantern-candlesticks I knew I was going to have to try them when I saw this on the Country Living’s website! But I am going to be honest with you…don’t even bother to click over to see what they did because it was a total project fail for me! Thiers involved Mod Podge, food coloring and Sharpie pens and I think you can see that the results are less than colorful. So, undeterred, I gave it a little thought and came up with my own version.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Country Living Inspired Jack-o'-Lantern Candlesticks tutorial 1
Here’s what you will need:
  • Martinelli’s apple juice bottles, clean and dry (I used one large and one small)
  • Krylon Colormaster spray paint in Pumpkin Orange (Yes, that’s what it’s called!)
  • Jute twine
  • Black and orange felt
  • Jack-o’-lantern face templates found here and here
  • Elmer’s Glue-All
  • Hot glue gun
  • Candles
And here’s what you will do:
1. Spray the bottles with several light coats of paint, letting dry in between. Decide which part of the bottle you will use as the front. (Here I must thank my guest Barb at The Everyday Home for donating the large bottle!)
2. Hot glue the end of the jute twine at the back of the base of the neck of the bottle.
3. Wrap the twine around the neck until you reach the top and then secure the other end with another drop of hot glue. Make sure that both ends are on the back side of your bottle.
4. You will find that the top of the larger bottle is a bit more challenging so you will need to secure the twine with small drops of hot glue as you wind.

5. Here is how the finished bottles will look. I love the way the twine gives the effect of the stems!
6. Print the face templates (links listed above) and cut out the pieces from the black felt.
7. Lay the bottles on the side, position the pieces and secure with Elmer’s Glue-All. Don’t worry…it will dry clear.
8. You will find that the mouth of the bottle is a bit too large, so cut a strip of orange felt to wrap around the base of the candle so that it will fit.
