No-Sew Burlap Bunny Ear Silverware Pocket

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Bunny Ear Silverware PocketI am excited to join our monthly No-Sew Showcase for our spring edition! I'm sharing a fun idea for your spring tablescapes…and it’s not just for Easter…my no-sew burlap bunny ear silverware pocket! It’s super-easy and doesn’t require you to sew a stitch! I have to give credit for this one to my daughter who first spotted it in Swoozie’s spring catalog and said that it looked like something I should copy make!

Supplies Here’s what you will need:
  • Pre-made burlap envelopes from Hobby Lobby (I found them on sale 50% off, but you can always use a coupon.)
  • A scrap of burlap
  • Heat n Bond or a similar product
  • Jute twine
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Print out of the ear pattern that follows
  • Optional…small name tags

Bunny ears
And here’s what you will do:
First, print the bunny ear pattern above. (Hint: Click on the pattern and it will come up in a new window. Then just hit print and it should be the right size.)

Ears Now you are ready to create the “ears.”
  1. Start by cutting a piece of burlap that will be just large enough for cutting your ears. If you are making multiple pockets, you will, of course, cut more ears. Then cut another piece of burlap and a piece of Heat n Bond the same size as the first piece of burlap. Follow the directions on the package and fuse the two pieces of burlap together.
  2. Using the bunny ear pattern above, cut as many ears as you will need…two per pocket, of course. :-)
  3. The burlap is now thicker and will hold its shape and resist raveling.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Bunny Ear Silverware Pocket TutorialNow you are ready to add them to the pre-made envelope to create your pocket. I like to work over a piece of aluminum foil since burlap has such a loose weave and the glue can leak through.
  1. Open up the envelope and add a bead of hot glue to the inner corners. Fold the flap over and tuck it inside, pressing it in place using a bamboo skewer so as not to get burned.
  2. Add another bead of glue to one the inner corners of the pocket on top of the fold.
  3. Add one of the ears and press down, again using a bamboo skewer so as not to get burned, and hold until the ear is securely in place. Repeat for the second ear.
  4. Tie a length of jute twine around the pocket.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Bunny Ear Silverware Pocket If you wish, you can add a name tag to the pocket and it will now serve as a place card as well! Love it! Wasn’t that super easy?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Bunny Ear Silverware Pocket and Napkin RingJust add my no-sew burlap bunny ears napkin ring to complete the look! How cute would this combination be on your Easter table! And they cost almost nothing to make!

  4. I have seen some darling Easter and Spring crafts, but this one takes the cake. Or egg? :) I just adore this and also love how it serves as a place card too. (I like that tag btw) I literally LOL'd at the pic of Baby Kitty. I am pretty sure you are right, she is not thinking of a bunny as "decor." :-D xxoo, Barb

  14. Very cute, but we don't have Hobby Lobby up here, and I've not seen the burlap envelopes in Michael's. But I don't imagine they would be hard to make...and I have soooo much burlap! These are a great idea for using some of it up. Thanks for the Easter tablescape inspirations!
    Debbie :)
