A Farmhouse Christmas Tree with Super Easy DIY Galvanized Stars

I am really excited about my little Christmas tree this year…so excited, in fact, that I made all new ornaments in keeping with my rustic Farmhouse Christmas theme!

It is a small table top tree...just the right size for the Plate Addicts…and I used the same three elements that I have used throughout my Farmhouse Christmas decorations this year…burlap, grain sack and galvanized accents!

Since grain sack ornaments can be so expensive, I made my own and I will be showing you next week just how I did it.

Next, I wanted some touches of burlap, but really didn’t have room on my little tree for large ornaments so, inspired by Angela at Number Fifty-Three, I made these rustic burlap tassels…super easy and fun!

I actually looked online for 3-D galvanized stars, but I am impatient and hate to wait for things to come in the mail, so I decided to make my own. And this is so easy that I hardly dare to call it a tutorial…it’s more of a tip!

I just took the 3-D paper mâché stars from Hobby Lobby…which were on sale and were only a little over $1.00 each…and spray-painted them with Rust-oleum hammered spray paint in silver…and that’s it! I love the result! (Another tip…one coat works best. More than that and it seems to lose the hammered effect.) Once they were dry, I removed the little gold thread hanger and hot-glued jute twine instead. Here it is next to the little galvanized tub from Tractor Supply Company that I am using as a Christmas tree stand. Looks like the real thing, doesn’t it? I am also finding that my pewter pieces, most of which were wedding presents many moons ago, are fitting in nicely with the galvanized farmhouse look. I like the way the stripes on the candy canes reflect the stripes on the grain sack ornaments.

And to add even more vintage Christmas charm, I have placed some red and green spools in a little silver tray…love them!

But Baby Kitty says that the best thing is not the decorations, but the fire in the fireplace on the gray, rainy day! And I have to admit that I am enjoying it, too...especially now that the house is completely decorated and I can just relax!
