Another favorite of mine is back taking center stage in my fall decor…my Pottery Barn inspired dough bowl centerpiece! I have used it on my buffet this year with some of my vintage silver and I love the contrast of the rustic and the elegant!
I have been seeing dough bowls filled with candles for several years now on Pottery Barn’s web site and I love that look. But I am especially happy to have my dough bowl because it was my grandmother’s!
I have made a few changes this year, though, with the assistance of my handsome co-host Baby Kitty. What would I do without his help?
Here’s a better look at this year’s version…white candles tied with raffia and white pumpkins on a bed of faux acorns covering a base of dried pinto beans to anchor it all. Sounds like a yummy new vegetarian dish, doesn't it?
Here’s a closer look. The acorns came from Kohl’s…half price! I tried picking some up from an oak tree at my grandson’s Little League field and the tops had already fallen off, so I will use this nature-perfected version!
You can see the dried pinto beans peeking out. I tried it without them and it didn’t work. They have to be there to stabilize the candles. PB uses sand, but I can't do that with my staff!
I will tell you a secret about the pumpkins…they are from last year! Yes, they made it for a whole year…unbelievable! I just kept them in a basket in the living room because I didn’t have the heart to throw them out…and they just kept going and going and going…
The champagne bucket was one of my Goodwill finds from this summer. I was excited to find it so I could fill it with interesting things. For fall, it is this great faux pumpkin…from Walmart for $5.00! I love the stem! I added some leaves to make it look a little more pumpkin-patchy!
Here’s last year’s version with traditional orange pumpkins. I used it as part of the centerpiece on my Thanksgiving tablescape. The orange pumpkins really added a little pop of color with all of the creams and naturals.
And here is the first dough bowl arrangement that I did. This look is a little simpler…more like the PB version…with just a few pumpkins added.
And finally…another look at this year’s version on my buffet. I love seeing my grandmother’s dough bowl taking such an important place in my home. It brings back memories of Thanksgivings long ago when it was used to make batches of fluffy biscuits for breakfast during our visits. I hope I am making memories for my grandchildren at Thanksgiving, too, and that this dough bowl will be a part of them!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my fall decor! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Simply beautiful fall decor! Reminds me to go polish some silver!!! Love the pinto bean suggestion!
ReplyDeleteJane-Jacksonville
Beautiful vignette Debbie! Pottery Barn should be coping you, I love it and love all your silver pieces too! Martina
ReplyDeleteHow amazing that your dough bowl came from your grandmother! You and Baby Kitty put together a beautiful display!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, this is just stunning! LOVE the candles in the dough bowl, and I never would have thought to anchor it with pinto beans! I will remember that! Sooo pretty with the white candles and acorns...so warm...and what wonderful memories surround that dough bowl...memories that will carry on :)
ReplyDeleteLove the staff and not being able to use sand! I can SO relate!
That champagne bucket is to die for! I remember when you found it! Lucky Girl!!!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
Lou Cinda :)
Love it all, Debbie. Great idea with the pinto beans. Have a super weekend. Going to finally feel like fall.
ReplyDeleteLove the pumpkin on the champagne bucket...I think I will compliment you by copying you!!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have your family piece. Everything looks gorgeous, love the silver with the rustic. My girls send Baby Kitty kisses!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Debbie!! I had to laugh about not using sand in the bowl!! You did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
You have the knack for executing such beautiful decor ideas!~Ames
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet "staff" there helping you! I smiled when I saw him up on your table. My two "staffers" never jumped up on a table until we got two big rambunctious dogs and now there is no surface that they don't descend upon to get out of the dogs way!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your vignettes and those acorns are awesome! Did you get them at Kohl's recently? You are the second blogger who said their white pumpkins lasted from last year! Will have to get some this year myself.
Gorgeous settings.

Hi Debbie! It's been a while since I've visited you and the staff! It's been a busy summer, but now I'm out and about seeing what everyone is up to for fall. I'm loving your dough bowl and especially the acorns! And I was just at Kohls last night. I may have to go by again and see if I can find some, they're lovely. Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteDebbie I love this arrangement. Your bread bowl is really wonderful and even more so since it came from your Grandmother! I do love this simple but elegant list and yes I would have to use pinto beans instead of sand around here also! Baby Kitty continues to be such a great Co-Host! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteLove it! Don't think I would have put the dough bowl with silver but it looks great. Awesome execution. Hope this post will be a part of Seasonal Sundays!
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
That last photo should be a magazine cover!!! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteExquisite as always, Deb. I love when you post. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4 and a few more.
ReplyDeleteI like the candles in the wood bowl, very clever. Thanks for sharing, Richard from My Old Historic House.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, this looks so beautiful. All your vignettes sing the song of the simplicity of fall. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi D...I was so excited when I saw "dough bowl" mentioned, 'cause you know I want one! Love the whole thing - all the creaminess is beautiful. The silver champagne bucket beside it is a gorgeous accent - bien fait! Linda
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vignettes, Debbie.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your decorating ideas!!! I love that you give Pottery Barn knock off designs!! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteOkay....so here is something my crazy self did once. I found a ton of acorns on the ground at a place and scooped up a ton of them. Brought the bag home and set it to the side. When I went to use them, most of the caps had fallen off. I was heartbroken, but because I am INSANE, I hot glue them back on!!!! You are smarter than I. What was I thinking??? Your vignettes are lovely. I especially like the white pumpkin and candles one.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful idea! Your ginger cat is a sweet addition to your fall centerpiece. :)
ReplyDeleteJennelise
You are the best PB hacker out there. The last picture is my favorite. Totally looks like something from a magazine/catalog. When I saw the update on my phone on Facebook, I had a DUH moment going "why didn't I think of that?" b/c the wine chiller/pumpkin, because I have both. I think you've finally convinced me to invest in a dough bowl. Unfortunately, my mom got rid of our family dough bowl. ;o( I'm sure your grands will have sweet memories of Thanksgiving in your beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous and as pretty as anything I have seen anywhere. Nice job..and your photos are beautiful! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful Debbie! I love your dough bowl display, such a big difference by just changing the pumpkins from orange to white-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteDebbie, You know I'm lovin' your PB inspired dough bowl and I like your champagne bucket with the pumpkin, too. I really need to do something Fall-ish before I'm ousted from blogland. :) Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Babs
Love your dough bowl, silver tray and champagne bucket! Everything is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Potpourri Friday! I appreciate you, Debbie!
Oh Debbie, your doughbowl is just fantastic. I love it. Your white candles and pumpkins are just beautiful and I love the acorns and the beans is a great idea. All of your silver is so pretty. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteDebbie -- gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love all the different incarnations of the dough bowl centerpiece. Wonderful.
You out-PB PB itself.
LOVE the faux acorns, too.
This year, at Kohls?
Hmmm...
Cass
The dough bowl is such a perfect place to create this centerpiece. All of your decor puts me into a panic! I have so much to do and no time to do it in. I even bought a lot of new stuff and if I don't use it, I will be very unhappy! I really love all the candles, just kind of gets you in the fall mood doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteDough bowls are so much fun to play around with and yours look outstanding...love the acorns.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Hi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to tell you how much I love this arrangement...the soft creamy colors against the old wood...just perfect! I am lucky enough to have an old dough bowl, very similar to yours, and I can't wait to try my own version of your inpiration centerpiece. Thank you so much for sharing...the photos are beautiful. I'm your newest follower and can't wait to see what you come up with next:-)
Cheryl at My Sister's Cottage
Love the dough bowl and the way you decorate with it. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteYour dough bowl arrangement is so beautiful. I'm so glad you told me where to find some realistic looking faux acorns. I have a dough bowl, too, that I have filled with really large acorns. I have some candle holders beside it that I wanted to put some acorns into. Now I know where to find them!
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely! I love fall decor. We're moving in about 3 weeks though, so I'm not bothering with it until after we move. Sadness.
ReplyDeleteI love dough bowls too. I got one last year at the Holiday Bazaar for a FRACTION of the PB price. If you haven't seen it, you can find it here:
http://myheelsarehigherthanyours.blogspot.com/2010/10/pottery-barn-eat-your-heart-out.html
It's all just lovely! Of the many (many many) things we saved from my grandmother, no one knows what happened to her bowl like that. My mom has been lamenting that for twenty years.
ReplyDeleteWow, I think the dough bowl looks fantastic! Better than PB. Your server looks so pretty all decorated for autumn!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous look, I love the candles in the bowl, so pretty for Autumn!
ReplyDeleteNature-perfected -- I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe combination of the rustic and elegant is a beautiful composition.
BTW, I saw on someone's blog last year that you can successfully preserve the little pumpkins in sand in a covered container. I had some sand from PB from a few years ago, and I put it in a plastic box with a lid, buried the little pumpkins in it and left it in the garage. They were just like new this year.

Oh Debbie, this little vignette looks beautiful. I love the added sparkling silver. It just creates such a opulent look! Thank you for joining TTF and have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis is soo pretty! The pumpkin in the ice bucket is great.
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if you linked this up to my party.

Debbie, I always bring out my dough bowl for fall scopes. Thanks for sharing the idea of using it for candles. I've not done that. Cute idea to use the pumpkin in the champagne bucket.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you a lot while here in Quimper. ;-)
~ Sarah
I just love this! I have a dough bowl and never thought
ReplyDeleteof using sand or beans to steady candles. Gotta go and do this now. Oh, and I have the silver tray and champagne bucket too!
So pretty! Your kitty fits right in with the decor.
ReplyDeleteLove, love the dough bowl, specially love the bucket, nice!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your dough bowl with fall decorations. I am so sad I don't know who got my grandmother's dough bowl. I would love to have it for so many reasons. I like the way you used pinto beans and glad to know there are faux acorns at Kohl's. Mine are deteriorating after a few years. You always inspire.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, This is so pretty! I love your dough bowl with the candles and acorns. I am buying little white pumpkins this year in the hope they will last. Thanks for linking to the Open House party and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
wonderful job as always Deb... I've been looking for a vintage dough bowl for a few months now (one that I'm willing to pay the price for anyway!)... but have yet to find the one that will come home with me. I love what you've done with yours for the season...
ReplyDeletethe hunt goes on!
hugs. Dixie
I love it! I really love all the white. I have a very old wooden Flemish Art bowl that was my mother-in-law's. I'm sure it was old when she got it. I have no what it was used for originally, but I may have to try doing a white arrangement in it. I really love the look! Thanks for the inspiration!

Your dough bowl look this year is my fave! Simply outstanding, and I love that champaigne bucket too!
Happy Weekend,
Cindy
Hi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI loved your dough bowl arrangement so much that I took a stab at making my own version. I credited you on my blog today. I only wish my photos were as crisp and clear as yours. By the way, I love the photos of your "staff" on your sidebar...I'm still chuckling!
Cheryl at My Sister's Cottage
Awww, Debbie...I've been pining for a dough bowl for years! You're looks so rustic & wonderful. Beautiful presentations, no matter what color of pumpkins you've got in there.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever hear about how I went out in the rain & gathered a HUGE box of acorns to send to Sarah, HFforTheSoul? I set the box in the garage to dry & overnight some hungry little critter got in & ATE EVERY SINGLE NUT!!!! He left all the tops behind. LOL I thought I was seeing things. I hope he stored them for the winter. I won't do THAT again!!
Your faux ones look plenty real enough!
Just so beautiful Debbie! I love your version of a PB dough bowl vignette!
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteyour dough bowl looks fantastic! I love all of your arrangements! I am still coveting your champagne bucket find! It looks like Cinderella's pumpkin waiting to turn into a coach on top of that great champagne bucket! Very pretty! Thank you for linking it up at Home Sweet Home!
Sherry
Yours looks amazing! Very cozy!
ReplyDeleteOh my, your talent for decorating takes my breath away! Love the rustic and the silver together, absolutely exquisite!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Looks absolutely beautiful, Debbie! I truly love your grandmother's dough bowl and how you've dressed it up for the season ... so classy! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, I love this!!! What a treasure to have your grandmother's dough bowl! Your assistant is just too cute for words. I may have to "borrow" part of this idea.. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and inspiring. It just glows warmth!
ReplyDeleteI love the decoupage pumpkins too! Makes me want to dig out the one I did two years ago although I don't think it's as pretty as CL or yours! Great job!!!
A beautiful dough bowl vignette made even more special because it is a family piece. Your photos can always be counted on to be so pretty and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteLovely!! I have a dough bowl similar, and now I know what to do with it. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeletePinning on pinterest. :)
Cheers,

So pretty ~ love it all!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
I haven't been by in a while..and I have missed a lot! The pumpkin you picked up at Walmart is great!
ReplyDeleteI am going there today for batteries so think I will head to the Pumpkin aisle. :) Me? A copy cat? NO! LOL
Everything looks lovely and so Fall. Sand? With Kitty around? Maybe not!! :)
Hugs,
Mona
Your arrangement on the buffet is so beautiful!! Love that silver "pumpkin holder". ;0)
ReplyDeleteI'm all about using things that are special to us. Wouldn't your grandmother be thrill with you using her dough bowl!! LOVE it!
Love how you arranged stuff ony our dough bowl, Debbie. Very nice!...Christine
ReplyDeletelove this idea!
ReplyDeleteHi- What a great display in the dough bowl and I love the sentiment attached. The silver champagne bucket looks great with the pumpkin. I found a similar shape in ceramic that I did the same thing with. LOL about the acorns...we have a ton of them here but I'll leave them for the squirrels...I think I'll check the faux ones out at Kohls!
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVE your dough bowl display. I have two of those champagne buckets in my kitchen I also put pumpking in:)
ReplyDeleteVery cute decor. I think I like this year's muted colors best. I think I may have to get my dough bowl out of the cupboard now.
ReplyDeletecute stuff, but i always love the cat~
ReplyDeleteBeautiful centerpiece! Love everything and the silver is a GREAT touch! (love your kitty too!)
ReplyDeleteWow! Baby Kitty really knows how to decorate a table :) Fabulous job! 74 comments so far not bad for a cat! lol
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Debbie! You have the touch!
ReplyDeleteI love the pumpkin in the champagne bucket!
ReplyDeleteKaree
So-o-o beautiful. Thanks for teaching me what a "dough bowl" is! And thank you for stopping by & leaving a comment on my blog so that I could come visit you. Great blog. I'm a plate addict too!
ReplyDeleteWarmly, Michelle
This is truly gorgeous...including your cat! Love everything.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Love the bowl..& that sweet kitty!
ReplyDeleteLove your centerpiece. I will be featuring it tonight at my Fall into Fall party that opens at 8pm EST. Please stop by and pick up an I've Been Featured button. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe dough bowl or trencher teams so well with rustic or elegant environs, adds that touch of contrast and wabisabi so necessary to our lives. Love your arrangement with white pumpkins, candles and acorns. And your sweet kitty warms my heart!
ReplyDeleteThis is like my favorite fall centerpiece I've seen to date! So simple but yet so stunning. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I have a treasured dough bowl too. It doesn't have the wonderful family memories yours does but wonderful memories none-the-less. I picked mine up rummaging thru a big farm turned antique store in Germany. We LOVED our time there and every time I see it it brings back such lovely memories of a delightful day and place. Thank you for sharing another fun way to display it!
