Six Ways to Get Farmhouse Valentine Style

I just love that farmhouse look…so simple and cozy, especially this time of year! And with Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s even more fun to tie in farmhouse style with all of its texture and rustic elements! Sooo…I thought I would give you six easy ways to achieve that look using some of what you may already have on hand, some super-easy DIYs and a few inexpensive additions.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Farmhouse Valentine Mantel1. Add some touches of galvanized metal
Nothing says “farmhouse” to me more than a few touches of galvanized metal…and luckily enough, it’s also very inexpensive! In the last few years, its growing popularity has made it even more available and reasonably priced. And don’t forget that a farm supply store can also be a great source! I love the patina that it adds, too, as with my Farmhouse Valentine Mantel. Just throw in some sweater hearts (bargain finds at an after-Christmas sale) and you are good to go. See the full mantel here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Valentine Pillow2. Fun throw pillows add layers
I love changing my throw pillows with the seasons and the holidays! Drop cloth makes a fun backdrop for farmhouse style and layers of fabrics add texture, too, as with my Vintage French Valentine Pillow. (You know if I am talking about farmhouse style, I have to add a few frenchy elements as well!) And as always, the free graphic is included.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Rustic Valentine Wreath3. Burlap adds a bit of rustic charm
You may have noticed that I love using burlap as a base for the wreaths that I create, so you may not be surprised to see it in my Rustic Valentine Wreath, along with a few more of those wonderful sweater hearts. It adds so much texture and helps give that farmhouse feel that I love!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage Bunny Love Valentine PillowI also like to use burlap as a background in many of my throw pillows, too, as in my Bunny Love Valentine Pillow. It allows for a rustic look and helps keep it from being too cutesy.

4. Pull out your white dishes and ironstone
Something about the simplicity of white dishes just says “farmhouse” to me! And…they serve as a wonderful contrast for all of the red that comes with Valentine’s Day! I love using them in a centerpiece, accented with vintage flatware and traditional fabrics, such as ticking and toile. You can see more of my Simple Valentine Farmhouse Centerpiece here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Sheet Music Candles5. Don’t forget about glass jars!
I keep a stash of them on hand to use as candle holders, among other things. Just add some vintage sheet music and twine and…taaa daaa…instant farmhouse charm! And I have to confess…I cheated and downloaded the sheet music! You will find a link to it and all the instructions here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Valentine Tea Towel6. Vintage linens are the perfect finishing touch
Don’t have any? Then make your own, like my No-Sew Valentine Tea Towel! Nope…not one stitch was sewn to create it! I don't even know how to cross stitch! Head over here to see how I did it!

Baby KittyMy handsome co-host Baby Kitty says that it doesn’t take a lot of money or time to add a rustic farmhouse feel to your Valentine’s Day décor! We hope you’ll try out some of our ideas and let us know what you think!
