Easy No-Sew Watermelon Vase

We are still sweltering here in Georgia, so I am going with a summery feel for my latest creation…my fun and easy no-sew watermelon vase! Nothing says summer to me quite like watermelon so even though school is cranking back up in a week...yes, you read that right…I am going to hang on to summer a little bit longer.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Watermelon Vase Here’s what you will need:
  • A cylindrical glass vase (Mine came from Dollar Tree.)
  • A piece of bright pink felt that is as tall as your vase and wide enough to wrap around and allow a one inch overlap.
  • A piece of dark green felt that is about 1/3 as tall as your vase and wide enough to wrap around it with a one inch overlap. (My vase is 7 1/2 inches tall so I made this piece 3 inches.)
  • Several pieces of light green felt that are 3/4 inch wide and as tall as your dark green piece.
  • Seed shapes cut from black felt.
  • Elmer’s Multi-Purpose glue
  • Small paint brush
  • Straight pins
Note: It is difficult to be exact with measurements since it depends on the size of your vase.

Using the paint brush, apply glue to the back of the light green strips and attach them to the dark green strip, spacing them evenly. Allow it to dry completely. And…don’t worry if it looks a little messy since the glue will dry clear.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Watermelon Vase Place the dark green strip at the bottom of the pink strip to allow you to visualize the placement of the seeds. Do not attach it. Use the paint brush to attach the seeds to the pink strip in a pattern that pleases you. Allow it to dry completely.

Remove the pins. Finally, add the dark green strip over the pink strip, securing the overlap first with glue, then with pins until it dries, just as before. Remove the pins when it is dry. I found that attaching the two strips separately gave it more of the look of real watermelon and was less bulky.

Ozzie And our lovely CEO Miss Ozzie says to stay tuned because we have just enough fabric for one more watermelon project before summer comes to an end!

Remember to pin it!
